Gracias Teresa!! Spain in a box!

My swap package from teresa_nc7 arrived today. And boy, that box was HUGE!!!

Teresa said she got a big box to ensure everything arrived safely. Let me tell you, she did a wonderful job of packing everything so that it would arrive intact. Took me quite a while to open some of the bubble wrapping but it was worth it!!

Teresa went with a Spain theme which I love because I don't have anything spanish in my kitchen or in my repertoire so this is a new adventure.

First of all, (paper) a cookbook for Tapas. What fun. I've only had a chance to glance through it briefly and already I found a few recipes I want to make. Here's one of them: sautÃ©ed garlic mushrooms. YUM!

Next (cooking method) a Spanish cazuela. I love it and will definitely inaugurate it by cooking a spanish dish in it. Inside it was a scroll of recipes that are made in a cazuela.

Third (ethnic) a jar of Fried Tomato Sauce. Perfect for making SharonCB's Meatloaf, baked in the cazuela, recipe included in the scroll! Wheeeee!!!!

What a wonderful SPAIN themed package.

But wait! there's more!

Teresa put in an extra item which really surprised me. Not in the spanish theme, but it definitely goes with my kitchen. A grape/wine WEDGEWOOD dish! It's so very cool and I love it! What a special extra to put in!

Teresa, I love everything and will post pictures of my tapas and meatloaf when I make them. What a very special swap package. Thank you very much!

that pan kicks butt. i'm going to have to look into them. can they be used on the stove top?

Beautiful! That plate will certainly go with your kitchen. How do I know, because I have been in May's beautiful kitchen...she says gloating.

What a great package! Not only the tools and the food, but some (ahem) appropriate music to enjoy as well! I've never heard of chile Japones or Puya -- what are they like? I haven't heard of horchata, either, but it sounds very Middle Eastern -- perhaps a transplant via Spain? Hope you enjoy the package, blueiris -- if you can't beat the heat -- overwhelm it!

Then there was the blister pack where trying to open it caused the pill to crumble to powder no matter how careful I tried to be. How's that for effective dosage? I once spent almost an hour on the Internet tracing a prescription skin cream and lotion manufacturer to complain about their !@#$ packaging. The cream version was very thick and didn't flow. It came in a stiff-sided plastic bottle which couldn't be squeezed enough to force it out. The lotion version came with a pump that was boxed with the handle depressed, without directions, and which would not pop out no matter what I tried. When unscrewed, the tube carried with it far more of the cream than needed for one dose. Nor could the tube be easily removed. Their response was to refund one copay, but the refills are still just as bad. Fortunately, while I had the pump out spilling the lotion I somehow managed to get it to pop up (still don't know how I did it) and I've been transferring that pump to each successive bottle. It's certainly not sterile, aargh.

Thanks for the mouth-watering recipes. I have plans for tonight, but when I return home I'm going to sit by the fireplace and take my time reading these recipes. Hmmm, which one to try first? canarybird - I especially appreciate the recipes from Mallorca. I teach h.s. Spanish and at the end of the semester I invite the students to my home for a Spanish meal. I've done Mexican food in the past, but with these new recipes, I may need to change up the menu. I have one cookbook from when I was studying in Spain but we redid our kitchen and I'm not sure which box contains that book. (plus, I hate converting from the metric measuremements to cups, teaspoons, etc.)

Funny though when I got to the "ethnic" choice..I said to myself..I thought the whole thing was ethnic. LOL

Thank goodness everything arrived safely! I was so worried about the cazuela being broken in transit.

Yes, sometimes we have to be creative with the swap categories - so I decided that Spain would be my theme and just went from there. I also have more recipes from Sharon Canarybird to email. Thanks Sharon, for supplying the recipes, complete with photos, some using her cazuelas.

I found the wine themed plate when I was at Replacements looking for more pink transferware china and remembered seeing photos of May's kitchen.

Teresa, you did good! I love your theme and I certainly get the feeling May did also. The cookbook looks like it would be very interesting and I love the cazuela. FUN!

Love the rectangular cazuela. Mine are all round. And tapas are always wonderful, so the book sounds great. Lovely plate and great package.

I love this package as well. That cazuela is beautiful and is perfect with the Tapas cookbook. Oh dear, I think I found a blank in my cookbook collection. Note to self, look at Spanish cookbooks.

I really like the "extra" plate, LOL, it's going to be just right in May's kitchen, I'm sure.

Still, that cazuela is a gorgeous color and the cookbook is very interesting.

Wedgewood is fabulous stuff, May! I bet you'd find some great recipes to serve on Asian soup spoons in the Tapas cookbook (ok, I'm enamored of that thread, lol)!

That is a beautiful assortment of items. I've never heard of fried tomato sauce - will be interested to hear more. The ceramics are just stunning.

Beautiful package, Teresa. A little touch of Spain. I've used that sofrito before on SharonCB's world greatest meatloaf. It's good! The cazuela is great, too.

Oh, May what a wonderful package! And the colors all go so wonderfully with your kitchen. You'll have to let us know how the recipes are -- perhaps we can trade tapas recipes!
