WANTED: Got a package full of fertility dust today...

From Stacie...girlsingardens. She thinks she was pretty tricky, having just sent me a surcie to trick me into thinking she wasn't sending me a swap package. Clever young lady, Stacie.

You can see that I was wise enough to open the box with gloves. I do NOT need fertility dust on myself at this age

Stacie mad me an apron and hand cross-stitched it.

She also handmade 3 tea towels with cute little country patches on them.

A then came a pckage of 6 melamine bowls

I didn't show the picture, but she also made a potpourri from dried orange peels and cinnamon sticks. Mmmmmmm, did the package ever smell good when I opened it.

Thank you Stacie, very much , for all this cool stuff in which you put a lot of love (and a hell of a lot of fertility dust)

I had to get the okay to send the surcie from Ann. Since my partner dropped out at the last minute and you volunteered to be my partner I wanted to send a little thank you.

I am so glad that everything got there in one piece, I was nervous about the cannisters, I love them, I have buttons in some, potpouri in others and use a set for flour and sugar. You didn't count too good though.... there are 6 towels:) The seventh towel in the set was used for your surcie;)

Congrats on the new plants, and sorry about the loss. I love ZZ plants--they're so lovely and durable. In fact, they are now my default choice as homewarming/thank you/congratulations/get well plant gifts. I just tell non-gardening recipients to plop it anywhere but full sun and water it deeply once a month. So far they've all had great success. You probably already know, but you can root them from a single leaflet. It's fun. Just rip one off and stick it in a glass that has just an inch of water in it. Give it bright light and keep it warm and it'll root eventually. Once they do, I pot them up and they make a round tuber. In their first winter the single leaf may shrivel, but water the pot as always and the first spring they send up a true leaf stalk with leaflets. Fun and easy if you're not in a hurry. well butterworts are easier because they dont have long tentacles. I pretty much put the plants stalk between my index and middle finger with my right hand (ontop) and then use my left hand on the base of the pot. I give it a couple of soft sudden shakes until the soil moves out the pot into my hand in the shape of the pot. Because the plant is sticking between my middle and index finger not to much gets on it. I then turn it upright and carefully remove excess peat from the sides, careful not to go near the roots. I always have left some old peat on the roots then simply pot the plant in the new pot (I make a hole in the new peat to sink it into) I too have issues with getting perlite and peat on the leaves sometimes, I normally carefully take off the big chunks of stuff with tweezers, I then use a toothpick to carefully nock off the rest if needed. If you had to wash the plant off with distilled water it would certainly not kill it, I mean they live in bogs, it may loose its dew for a day or 2 but should recover perfectly. I know my P. Primuflora dont mind flooding at all, I always water mine from the top and they love it, so no worries with that. I know what you mean about the distilled water, running back and forth to albertons spending about $2.00 per 1.9 gallons was becoming a pain in the butt, these cool toys have become a real life saver. About how not to get dew everywhere, well that one I have never managed, lol, my hands always need a good wash afterwards, just try to keep the dewy leaves above your fingers and your hand under around the stalk to support it when it falls out of the pot. I suppose you could even use some clear saran wrap, remove all sphagnum moss, put the saran wrap on the top covering the whole top surface of the peat moss, then put your hand ontop and pop it out. This would stop peat soil falling to the leaves atleast, never tried it but just thought of it now, should work. Cheers bud Sheldon

This is yet another industry that has managed, with the help of Congress, to basically create a monopoly whether literally (where I live, Comcast is our ONLY option) or via collusion. Politicians are useless as they're all bought by these companies. No one is protecting the consumer (well, hello Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, but they are alone). I called my state rep about it and got a bunch of gobbledygook about how Comcast owns the infrastructure and a competitor would have to build their own in order to open up shop…couldn't belive what I was hearing (literally). Every new competitor who might want to start a new telecommunication company has to first install cable lines, telephone poles, etc.??? The whole point of that is to make sure, once again, that there is NO competition and therefore NO pressure on prices, keeping them low. That is how business is done in this country now, precisely NO free market. The rep did tell me that there is an investigation going on into possible collusion between the two or few companies out there now. I'll believe it when I see it. Most likely, Comcast and Verizon will just pay them off, and the "investigation" will go away. Ultimately, the problem is that Congress no longer protects Americans fro corporate predation, has weakened Taft-Hartley, among other important laws put i place long ago for good reason, and we now live in a corporacracy, and an oligarchy to boot.

Patti, it sounds like you got a lot accomplished. Did you sleep well? I had a busy day yesterday too, and I had a restless night. I'm going to take some Tylenol pm tonight. I removed everything from the screened in back porch and power washed the porch, the birdbath and all outdoor furniture. Then I painted a total of 8 outdoor chairs and one table. I put them back on the porch late yesterday evening. I have some 16" X 16" blocks that I made into a small patio for a sitting area, but I changed my mind about where I want them, so tomorrow I have to do it over. I spread more mulch today, moved a container that has some plants in it. I also planted a fake tree. :) I took some pictures of everything, but I'm too tired tonight to fool with them. I'll post some before and after pictures of some of it and just some after pictures of others tomorrow. Linda

Oh Sherry, I'm so glad you used "protection".

I love what Stacie sent you. The cannisters are my favourite. I'm sure you will put those to good use. And the teatowels are wonderful. They look like the kind made from flour sacks that dry lint free. The best kind.

And one can never have too many bowls.

Sherry I can just picture those canister's filled and sitting in your pantry. The way you cook for your in-laws I'm sure the bowls will get a work out also.

Wow! I'm just so impressed with gifts from loving hands :) I know that while hand making a gift, lots of "love" thoughts and vibes become woven into the fabric that lasts a lifetime. A lovely swap box indeed.

How perfect that she made three tea towels to match the three that you already had! She must truly be psychic. They remind me of Fruit Crate Labels, which I used to collect.

I love the apron and know that a lot of love went into making it as well. I also like the squarish shape of the canisters - they will contain more for the space they take up than if they were round, which is important to me. Love the colors in the bowls too - maybe we can see them unpackaged later.

Great job, Stacie! And smart move wearing gloves!!

...and the majority of the forum breathes a sigh of relief. LOL Stacie, I think you scared quite a few with your warnings about the package. I was pretty sure it wasn't heading this way, though. ;)

I love those canisters...who wouldn't get tons of use out of them?

I certainly don't want any fertility dust - that train has left the station - well almost, LOL! But the rest of your items are "spot-on" Stacie. I got a set of similar mixing bowls from Cathy a while back and I use them every single day, I know you will too Sherry.

Maggie, even though I lost 40 lbs. unfortunately, I still look like I am "showing." Just the way I am built. That's why I wore gloves. I sure did not want to get any fertility stuff on me. Hee Hee.

The glass jars are great - I have them too and they make excellent storage for dry goods. Also just love the hand stitched apron. Hand made things are very special! -maria

Stacie, what a wonderful swap package! You are a very talented lady making the apron and towels. I also love flour sack towels, reminds of my DGM. I'd love a couple of the big cannisters for flours. I like the wide opening for scooping. Enjoy and put it to good use Sherry....I know you will.

Stacie, those towels are wonderful, I always like the handmade things, they are so much more personal, and the apron is perfect too.

As much as I love you, I hope you stay right the heck away from me with that fertiiity dust too!

You made the apron & the towels? How lovely! I can't even stitch a straight line. They're beautiful and I agree, the patches on the towels look like fruit crate labels (which I love). I'm loving the bowls (of course) and the canisters too...the canisters remind me of the kinds they used to show with the old Hoosier cabinets.

(sherry, I hope that you opened those canisters up outside & shook them out really well. That fertility dust is invisible, you know).

I just realized that nearly everything in that box had multiplied! Eek!

I have a canister like those - the big one. Full of wine corks - grin. I actually planned to make a cork board out of them like (was it?) May did. ?? Just haven't gotten to it. Pretty soon, I'll be able to make 2. :-)

Oh Sherry-- lucky you-- hand made goodies-- you did a good job, Stacie-- love the way you "picked out" a cross stich pattern on the apron.

Those cannisters bring back memories-- Mom had a set and everytime the kitchen was painted a new color she would also paint the tops of those cannisters.

Just to let everyone know I found the cannisters at Walmart. We don't have a lot of choices and Walmart is an hour away anyways. I love the cannisters and have a set for myself.

I know you will love those canisters, Sherry. I've been reaching for my melamine mixing bowls more and more...they are lighter than my pyrex and easier on my aging limbs. My only gripe is they don't go in the microwave.

I think Roger will look great in the apron.

(dang stacie I was hoping to see some of your canned goodies to add to Sherry's museum collection...darfc....)

I thought about the canned goods but my last swap a year ago to earthly delights, all the canned goods broke inside the box and ruined the entire swap box. So now I am nervous about sending canned goodies.
