Terri, thank you, thank you, thank you ~ you did absolutely perfect in choosing items. I am totally blown away by the items handcrafted by you... you are an amazing woman.

Terri sent me the most wonderful soy candle, fragranced with

ginger peach, it's lovely. She also sent some fragranced body balm, which feels so soothing on my dry winter skin. Terri also sent a beautiful bracelet and earring set. Terri, I can't tell you how much this set is totally me - I'll wear it often and think of you.

Now back to the real swap items (I told you she was a rule breaker,lol). Terri sent me an adorable Emile Henry casserole in red, perfect for serving dips or salsa or fruit ;) I'm sorry Terri, I know I was a pain to figure out for the cooking method category, but you did good!

Terri also sent a really awesome recipe box in a red leather type material, complete with some recipes (including Sol's chocolate chip cookies, Terri's own banana cream muffins and Grandma's applesauce cake!!!). I truly love it!

Terri also let me know that she has sent a Soul Food Cookbook via Amazon, that I should be receiving soon. She has the same book and said "This book is a great read, and the recipes can't get more soul in them". I can't wait!

Terri, you so clearly put your heart and 'soul' into this swap and I'm touched beyond words. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and the wonderful package you put together (jeez, and I couldn't even post the monkey picture for you, lol).

PS-I didn't mention the 'packing material' (yea, that's what it is) that Terri used. Three very beautiful dish towels that coordinate perfectly with my kitchen.

I just walked in the door from getting my little ones from school and got your phone message..(You must have contacted Ann.) Than ran right to the computer.
I'm glad it all arrived safely. I was so worried about that Dish! (You do know you can bake in it too. A veggie gratin would look lovely in it.)

Did you open the box upside down? LOL

Yeah I filled one of the "allowed" items with stuff from me. I'll admit it..I cheated!

That beaded set was the first beading I did. I bought a little kit...I loved the colors..but then realized I had nothing to wear with it..so tried to figure out who I could give it to...
You like greens..so I figured you might wear greens too...

Hmmm....mora, she may be pulling our paws, but I *DID* try keeping 5 hens in the yard one year. I had hoped for good organic bug-control and maybe a little life and interest. I ended up with too many eggs to count (and all of them hidden - imagine a daily easter egg hunt), every one of my tall plants squashed by those #)$@(*!! peckers, an ungodly mess to clean practically daily, and a few lessons - like learning that chickens can easily hop a 6 foot fence, they're VERY VERY LOUD, and it's very wierd to be awakened by a voice on the phone saying "do you know there's a chicken in your driveway?" And yes: I resisted the urge to answer "no, but if you hum a few bars..." but it was a struggle. Radovan, check in your local phonebook (or www.superpages.ca) for "poultry" or "hatcheries". I got mine from Miller Hatcheries. Be warned: they'll have a minimum amount to buy - five was the very least they'd sell me (they usually deal in the hundreds). If you want to try just one, I suggest buying from a local farmer. And check your local bylaws: it may cost you a huge fine if they have a No Livestock rule (most towns and cities do). I would had to pay fines myself if it wasn't for small town politics and my friendship with the town mayor and her chickens. But I gotta tell you....in my opinion, it just ain't worth it. Try a little covy of quail instead (if you've got a well-fenced-off area). They do a much nicer job and - even better - they're QUIET! (Ever been woken by chicken-screeches at the crack of dark?) My grandkids have the opposite situation---too many pets. Their mother is an animal savior---miniature horse colt in the laundry room, cats/dogs/birds---they currently have three dogs and two cats. The kids like coming to our house---we have two dogs---because they don't have to take care of the animals. 7 and 9 are old enough for the responsibility of a dog. They need to understand they will have a big responsibility as well as a new family member. And it sounds as if you will be the one in the family to make sure they handle their responsibilities. The cost factor is major. The condo situation is also a huge problem. If that were remedied, the decision would be much easier. I agree with the wait advice. I have a 16 year old grandson ready for his first car---he falls in love with every other one he sees. The girls fell in love with the furry bundle---all Malti-poos are furry bundles---there is always one to find, and when adopting one is done when all the forseeable problems are solved, the entire process will be worth it. Except maybe for the cat, but the cat will adapt.

Houses did not necessarily have electricity when they were built. The earliest electricity in my area was 1935. Hard as it may be to believe, houses were built before that time. The neighborhood where I live now was electrified in 1942-- don't know who they managed that with the war effort at the time. Some nearby areas got power in 1947, after the War. Wiring a completed house is not quite as easy as one might think. A refrigerator was the first purchase- and they cost $300.00 in 1947 if one could be found. Two months wages. So money for fancy wiring was just not in most budgets- in my area. Crazy? Not at all. You got what you could pay for or did without. Now all the regulations do make for better houses. But those who cannot afford to build per those regulations live in public housing, are tenants or homeless. I'm not convinced that all the regulations are really for the better. We could make housing far safer than it is now -- and completely unaffordable.

Oh...I like the recipe box and covered in leather too!! I also like the dish towels, such nice and bright colors! The recipe books sounds awesome and I love Soul Food. We always visit the Soul booths at Taste of Chicago and have never been disappointed!

The jewelry and creams are such a beautiful and thoughtful gift. Enjoy!

I was lucky enough to receive one of Terri's candles in a previous swap - they're awesome! I love the color-coordinated items, and that recipe box is wonderful.

What a great package! I especially love that Emile Henri dish. The cookbook looks very intriguing .... might be nice given all the fantastic cookbooks received in this swap to have people provide a recipe, as we did in the last swap?
