WANTED: It Never Rains in California....because..........

........I got Lemons....Lots & Lots of them ....and other wonderful things from California !!! I had too fight off my Husband, as he just loves Lemons. He was standing over me like a hawk, as I opened my package.

Ann (Spacific)sent me her Favorites from California. First of all I have to show you the card she sent.....

Is that not too cute !!! It's a "Skellie" I laughed my head off. That card is definately a keeper.

Then she sent me these "Green Striped Linen Tea Towels".....and "Fresh California Lemons" right off her Tree.....

Finally....ann sent me the most "Beautiful Green Pottery Bowl" I have ever seen. It matches my kitchen perfectly.

I shall use it for many things.

Oh.....before I forget....I gave my Dear Husband a treat, since he went to the Post Office, waiting patiently there, and beat the line up, and put up with me.........

I forgot....Ann sent me a book from California too. You can see it in the back ground.
It is a "fresh Food Guide " from California. I have already looked through it. Diana55

That is an awesome swap package, especially a harvest from the garden, when most of us our just dreaming of fresh produce. Now to come up with something special to make with the fresh home grown lemons.

Until a few years ago, I held a CDL license with Hazmat endorsement... although driving a semi is not my cup of tea, I spent several years trucking with my ex-husband... I went through Tractor Trailer driving school up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for Midwest Coast Transport. The ex and I owned and operated a T600B Aerocab Kenworth, and drove the 48 States. I saw loads of wonderful scenery, and was fortunate in visiting many cities and places of interest throughout the country... from LA to DC, and all points in between! Basically, my license gave the ex lots of extra driving time to log... I don't consider myself a great semi driver, and he pulled all the mountain, bad weather, and city miles... and I drove lots of flat miles! We hauled everything, from a load of blue jeans into Compton, CA... to giant wire spools out of Bay St. Louis, LA... lots of frozen veggies in reefers to Ohio, and more wire spools out of Port Washington, PA... the best loads were cardboard boxes... no loading or unloading, light weight, and good pay! I quit driving when I filed for divorce, but I won't go into that... it was all quite an experience, and I wouldn't change the past at all, because that's what led me to the point I am at now! Looking back, I certainly have led a diverse life... I've milked cows on a dairy farm, driven a semi coast to coast, bred American Bulldogs, and been part of my current husband's kennel, that's appeared in several books and a few videos, published a magazine, ran a dog registry, raised three step-children... and have worked in many positions in several fields and industries, plastics and metal work among them... What a long, strange trip it's been, to quote a favorite song! And here I am... a Grandmother who grows Hippeastrums, gardens constantly, reads a lot, designs and creates jewelry, breeds and raises bulldogs... and has the best online gardening friends in the world!! :-)

Molie, So sorry about more rain: ( I wish you could come see my roses right now! My sister-in-law is suppsoed to come take some photos. If she does, I will post them. Most people are very shocked to know I do nothing besides pruning them. Once in a blue moon, I'll fertilize or put some compost on them, but that really is it. I used to spray horicultural oil,baking soda, and insecticidal soap, but I haven't in a few years now. I got the blackspot under control, and I haven't seen much of it since, only in the worst conditions like you are experiencing now. As far as bugs, I think I have a good little ecosystem going in my yard. I have tried to have some things blooming through out season, you know from spring blooming crocus to fall blooming Japanese anemones. It helps attract beneficial insects. I also put up bird feeders. I don't want to make it seem too simple, because it didn't happen overnight! I have seen all kinds of problems in the past, and I'm always just a little nervous that a catastrophe is waiting to happen, lol. Also, I only grow a few Hybrid Teas. They are definitely more high maintanance. The rest of my roses are shrubs and antiques. I do some careful planning of my rose purchases. I read many posts about people favorites and looked into those that seemed to stand out. If you like the look of Hybrid Teas, but want less maintance, look into Buck roses. Dr. Buck's most famous rose is 'Carefree Beauty', which is more shrub like, but many of his creations look more like Hybrid Teas. There are a few picture posts on the Antique Rose Forum Gallery. Temperature humidity index is calculated in the shade. Ideas from the Foothils of the Rockies: Rather than even more watering, I put up a shade cloth/tarp suspended between two step ladders with bungie cords. the plants seem to appreciate the shade during the hottest part of the day. When watering that much, I would fear leaching nutrients and minerals from the soil. Consider replacing the calcium and calcium processing friends. Some folks suggest ignoring MINOR wilt during heat spells; the plant infrastructure cant keep up with the needed fluid requirements , and there is not much helpful one can do at that time with water and fertilizer--when the temperature drops, some tugor returns. By morning the plant looks good. But, here WE get maybe 12 days with Temperature above 92F. what do we know about continued high heat? We worry more about first and last freezes coming early. d

Thanks for the support. Guess what - the fire reignited during the night!!!! Fortunately a police officer was driving past and saw smoke and called the fire fighters. My concern has also been about the smoke and I spoke to Wayne about it again. He says the unit where the cabs are, is the furthest from where the fire was, but still, we know ho pervasive smoke and the smell can be. There is no power to the building, so the doors can't be opened to get the cabs out. Eeek, that means they're sitting in the fug. Well, it is the waiting game now, nothing to be done. I'd rather have bad news straight away than anticipating it, so I am not good at this. Still, it is not the worst that could have happened.

WOW!!!! I've been patiently waiting, what a great swap package! It's perfectly color coordinated. I love linen towels and those look like really nice ones. Napa olive oil and a mister, wonderful.
Then there's the pottery bowl, fantastic! Love the color and the way it goes with the rest...

Score! Those lemons make me drool. I love that olive oil sprayer - looks very useful. Diana you'll have to toss a beautiful lemon-and-EVOO-dressed salad in that cute bowl.

I was so worried that the lemons weren't going to ripen in time to meet the deadline. I kept waiting and waiting. And then FedEx said I couldn't ship lemons to Canada, and then the US Post office couldn't find verification either way... but they made it. I was in your neck of the woods (Salt Spring Island) last year at the end of February/ early March and there was quite a bit of grey sky and sleet and rain, so I wanted to make sure that I sent edible sunshine!

Glad everything made it in one piece.

I love that swap package, everything about it! Green is my favorite color, so if you get tired of that bowl, Diana, just send it my way - it's beautiful. Lemons are so good and so sunshiny. What a treat for you. And the towels are great too. As I said about the bowl....the same goes for the towels. An olive oil mister would come in handy, and it's great to get the Napa Valley Olive Oil along with it. Way to go, Ann.

Very nice. Bright and Sunny is just what Diana needed since our weather hasn't been that great.

That piece of pottery is lovely and so are the towels. But it is the Olive Oil from Napa that I'm coveting.

Ann....I made a Lemon "Cheese Cake" for dinner tonight, with the Lemons you sent. I have showed everyone the lemons, because I have never seen a lemon, without the word "Sunkist" stamped on it. LOL I will try to post a pic later today. Diana55

Ann, I was thinking about how happy & cheerful your box 'o goodies looked when I saw the pictures. It's great that that was your idea behind the box. I, too, have never seen a lemon without "sunkist" stamped on it. How extra special that they came from your very own tree. The bowl & towels are gorgeous. And I had one of the olive oil misters too....loved that thing, I just used it until it broke. The card, of course, was pure genius.

Great box, Diana! It sounds like you were doing the happy (skelton) dance all around it. I would have been too.
