WANTED: Good things come to those who wait!

My wonderful swap package from Alison arrived today to brighten up a really dreary day!

I can tell Alison put a lot of thought into the swap items she picked for me:

1) china/pottery - a precious blue willow-patterned egg cup trimmed in gold to add to my collection of egg cups! I'll soon get the egg cups out of the china cabinet and put them on the dining table or the sideboard with various eggs in them in celebration of spring and Easter.

2) cooking method - baking! Specifically, a bread cookbook from Bernard Clayton - his New Complete Book of Breads, the 30th anniversary edition. I've been looking through this already and have found recipes for Lithuanian Bacon Buns, Sausage Bread, and Feta Biscuits. Almost 700 pages of breads! Heaven!

3) Ethnic - a wonderful assortment of Middle Eastern herbs and spices: Za'atar, Turkish Kofte Blend, Fish Spice, Ras Al Hanout, Baharat, and Charnuska or Nigella seeds. These wonderful spice smells greeted me when I opened the box and filled my office all morning. It was just as if I were shopping in the spice stalls at the souk! I love Middle Eastern food and will be making some flatbread with olive oil and za'atar on the griddle tonight! I love to get ingredients in a swap package!

Alison also included a copy of the Columbus (Ohio) magazine that focuses on restaurants. That will be my reading for tonight.

Thank you for everything, Alison! I love each gift you chose for me and know I will enjoy using each item. Your swap gifts will give me different tastes and worlds to explore and remind me of you each time I see them.

My first crop of Blue Lake beans are done. Put the 2nd crop in the ground Saturday. Garden plot is 8 ft x 8 ft maybe. Got 70 pints of canned beans out of it. I am single & only eat the beans on weekends with a steak or if I have a girlfriend over so the pint jars work really well for me. The Silver Queen corn I planted on April 11th is almost done. The ground may have been a little too cold when I planted it. Took FOREVER to come out it seemed. Was rearing to go because it was warming up & I go bonkers in warm weather when there is dirt outside with nothing in it growing! My maters ( Big Boy ) are starting to produce. The plants are over 7 feet tall & bunches of green ones are waiting to turn red. Bell Peppers are smaller than the maters. They have been shielded from the sun by the sheer size of the tomatoes growing near them but I do see a few on the branches. I would REALLY like to try to grow some Hickory King corn in the patch where the Silver Queen is growing ( After it`s done ) this year but I don`t think I have time. Sad. Never grew it before but would LOVE to see how tall that stuff gets! :) I have seen pics of Shots patch & I drool when looking at what he has grown! When the next beans come in, I am going to stick turnips in the ground. That should be about mid October. Gardening for me is like I drug I can`t get enough of. Wish I could bottle the feeling of joy & happiness I have from it & sell it. I would be a millionaire! Hehehe!

I ordered from Santa Rosa yesterday. The website actually displays the number of plants they have in stock when you're looking at the photo so you can either order quick or take your time if they've got plenty. This is the first time I've ordered from them but expectations are high considering they're a Watchdog 30 company. Received email confirmation of the order immediately followed by a personal email saying the order will ship next week. If the plants are in as good order as their communications, it should mean I get some terrific new additions to my perennial beds. I ordered things that I either can't grow from seed, or the seeds aren't yet available... okay, so I caved and also ordered another hellebore to add to my growing collection but other than that I restrained myself, really I did!

"" When you turn the chair upside down you should see screws holding the seat to the chair frame in each corner. Remove the screws and the seat should lift off. For my chairs I had to remove the staples for the chambric (black lining), remove the staples for original piping, remove the staples and fabric of the original cover. Then I was able to replace the padding for the cushion. If you didn't want to replace the cushion, you can just recover your seats by removing the seats from the chairs, cutting off the existing piping (very sharp exacto knife works for this) staple your new fabric over the existing fabric, staple new piping to the bottom of the seat and refasten to your chair frame. Hope this helps....(youtube.com has many clips showing how to recover dining rooms chairs, I din't see any that show the application of the piping though - its easy and you'll figure it out once you take your seat off and look at the how its done.) You know what is weird. I have no drawers at all in my bedroom now. Just some bins in a closet. And this is really cool - the 12 drawer has gradated sizing of the drawers. They get about a half inch taller each row down. You can see it on three center ones at the bottom of the picture. And I like the pulls on the center tier. They look like a key is inserted in an ornate lock. Yes, I will likely paint. I am conflicted because the finish is in good condition, but I am not keen on the yellow and gold. I have time to think it over.

I was just about to turn off the computer and head home for the weekend -- I'm so glad it finally arrived!

I'm so glad you don't already have the Clayton cookbook! (That was my biggest worry.) And it's so nice to know that the egg cup will be roaming free with others of it's kind!

Alison you always seem to know what is perfect for your partner. Great cookbook and that egg cup is beautiful. Can't wait to see all the wonderful dishes that Teresa prepares with the herbs and spices.

A bread cookbook for Teresa, now that IS perfect. Just think of all the pictures of 700 different kinds of bread she can post!

The egg cup is lovely and I really like the little metal containers of spices.

What a great gift! Just the cover of the bread book makes me drool (sorry for THAT visual)! The egg cup is beautiful, and sounds like it has found a good home. I'll be heading over to the Gallery to find the photo of your collection Teresa!

Exotic spices sound like they are perfect for you too. Great job Alison!

I'd love the chance to page through that book. Very cool! I'm liking those spice containers too. I'll be waiting for some more bread pics Teresa. I need a diversion from the Struan Bread! Great package Alison!
