Oh my aching back ...need help lifting....Lori316..please..

Our Lori and her kids have a twisted sense of humor. Much thanks to Ann for assigning her to me! This box ended up weighing a hefty 21 lbs. I need a personal trainer to teach me to lift it! Gee, I wonder who can help me with that, grin.

In her note, Lori points out that I get on a soapbox about foods imported from China (lead, contaminates, etc). So guess what part of the package theme was. Enjoying Chinese foods! ROFLMAO!

(1) Lori and her kids MADE Chinese fortune cookies, in two blue (my favorite color) take outÂ boxes, complete with fortunes they came up with themselves! One box, with cookies made by Lori, is for ÂJessica & Mr. JessicaÂ and the other box, made by LoriÂs kids, is for DS #1 and DS #2. I couldnÂt figure out why DS #1 kept saying Âin the bedÂ after everyone until Lori told me thatÂs how they are supposed to be read. Hmmm. I think his friends did that at his birthday ÂpartyÂ too and I couldnÂt figure out WTF they were doing. Thanks for the reminderÂ.

WeÂve already made a dent in them. (LoriÂcouldja post all the fortunesÂsome got eatenÂ and we are saving some so we might not get back to posting in time for some impatient CFers to read them!) IÂm really touched to have something home and heart made, and edible!

(2) Continuing with the ÂChineseÂ and ÂFavoritesÂ themes, Lori included some of her favorite items from Penzeys. Even though I have one not too far, she included some of their stuff that I would have not dreamed of getting for myself, so IÂm happy to have it to try: Maharaja curry, anise seeds, and sliced ginger root! I did need to stock up on cinnamon, and the one pound bag she included will be used heavily especially during Passover! Last, the Chinese five-spice powder I did NOT have and actually wanted it for a recipe some time ago. Now I have to find it!

(3) Best for last Â Lori knows I love cobalt blue (didnÂt I say its my favorite color?) And I always tend to look for Le Creuset stoneware at Tuesday Mornings for gift items (I sent two to Ritaotay and gave two to a friend as a hostess gift) but I NEVER buy it for myself! And even better, itÂs a HUGE casserole so I can use it for holiday or entertaining cooking Â sometimes I need to make two chickens or a turkey and I donÂt have an appropriate roaster. Sorry MIL, you arenÂt getting my old one because I DONÂT have one! Hey LoriÂ.didja see that its

Whoa! Beautiful Le Creuset - that looks big enough for a turkey! And how cute are those homemade fortune cookies for the whole family? Too cute.

BTW, is your back all better now Jess? If not, I'm going to send my ping pong coach over there to straighten you out!

Holy Cow!!!!!!!!! That's why it was SO heavy! That Le Creuset stoneware is gorgeous! Love the color too. Jessy I have also bought one as a gift and never one for ME.

Lori you made those fortune cookies? Im secretly wondering what messages Jessy and Mr Jessy have in theirs........ *snicker* (in bed).

I'm going to tackle the front flower bed this weekend. I plan to plant White Inpatients all along the walk leading to the front door. Red Inpatients all around both Live Oak trees and Multi-colored Caladiums in the front flower bed in front of my Azaleas. Now that I'm an older girl, 55 this June, I let a gardener mow, edge, and trim the trees and hedges. I save all my energy for just this kind of week end plant play, but I'm not the only hunch-back that limps back to work on Monday, there are a lot of us saying Oh my aching back!

You're so lucky to get help. I do most of it myself or it doesn't get done. I'd kill for help in the spring & fall. My DH works out of town so he's gone Mon through Fri. He does a little garden work if I ask him but the poor guy deserves a break too. He & I will probably be the ones bringing in all the plants. My oldest daughter has 3 kids & it's more work when they help. Youngest daughter is moving to CA tomorrow. One son is gone all the time & the other one thinks the brugs are a stupid waste of time since you can't eat them. One of his friends stole a pod from my Datura a couple years ago & ate it (don't know how much). They said he was talking to the toaster & his parents took him to the emergency room where they kept him overnight. He's fine but it scared the crap out of the rest of them. I think it sunk in & his experience taught them a lesson. I read him the riot act when he came back since I had warned them to leave them alone & I threatened to pull all my other pretty poisonous plants before they tried to eat something else. It was a couple years ago & I haven't had a problem with them since. Linda

Ahh, A boat ride. I was blessed with a note in my mailbox that someone needed help clearing out a garden and to bring your shovel and pails. I did. She wanted it all gone, granted she had about five other gardens, even more full. But she was moving and wanted this garden gone. I took a lot and came back the next day to clear the rest. I spent a good 4-5 hours sunday planting the 100+ asiatic lilies, columbine, phlox, daylily varieties. This garden fairy godmother also split some praire smoke, pasque, saxigragia, yarrow, delphinium, husker red, iris, and others! I had an area 80 feet wide by 10 feet deep to fill and this gave me a great start, since we have a very big lot which we had to scrape nearly clean since it was so overgrown(mostly by perennial weeds)! Unfortunately I was not able to get the names for many of the plants, or in the hurriedness they fell off when I could. But nevertheless, it was great! I then took some advil and we went out on our boat for a ride. I was hoping to tan my face so that not just the back of my neck is tan from looking down in the garden. Iced coffe sounds good, I bought a latte before and couln't take another drink, I heated up too much! great string! Holly

Lynn, the HW are red oak #2. They have alot of grain & knots which works for me b/c of the dogs( big one is Sam-11yo, my 1st child, Pepper - shaggy black one & Salty - the little sh*t Tzu puppy, J/k) I have turned into that crazy dog lady!! I had mentioned earlier I wasn't lovin' the glass cab in the foyer - too much visually when you first walk in. So, I will get out my handy dandy magic sliders & move it all back. Not only do the dogs think I am crazy, Dh does, too!! But he appreciates the effort just not when I ask him to help:) I have wanted to add 2 cool - kinda funky stools to each side of the glass cab. I could pull them into the seating area when entertaining as xtra seats. Maybe some kind of animal print........hmmmmm Sideboard is too big for the foyer & it does look nice in the DR. French doors on each side of ET opposite the sofa. LOL on the attic. I am turning into a pack rat!! There's junk up there, too!! Thanks soooooooooo very much. Smiles:)

AWWW, that's a wonderful swap box! Lori, the fortune cookies look better than I've seen in any oriental restaurant. Are they hard to make? Come on Jessy, share a couple of the fortunes, hee hee hee.........:-) Love all those spices from Penzey's, Lori knew what an adventurous cook you are, and so I can't wait to see what you make. I'm super impressed with how well planned and thoughtful the gifts are Lori! Especially that you and the children hand made the fortune cookies. I bet the kids had a blast.
I'm lovin' that fabulous casserole...A person cannot ever own enough covered dishes in my opinion.

I've lifted those super big casseroles so I know how heavy that box must have been. One has to ask how Lori packed the fortune cookies so as not to crush them (inside the pan?).

How awesome that this was a family to family swap box.

The casserole is drop dead gorgeous. Jessy, if you have too much trouble with its weight, just have DS#1 or DS#2 package it up and send it to me. I love casseroles, and can use some. I will also take those Penzey's spices off your hands. There are a few there that I do not have. And Lori, I would love a recipe for homemade fortune cookies. I think that was a very special touch to make something like that and send it to our EJ.
All in all, a very wonderful package that I certainly envy.
As a matter of fact, I was just wondering why everybody just coudn't have sent their swap packages to Me Me Me! There are some great ones this time for sure.

That is a really nice casserole. Great theme, Lori...it made me lol at work, so everyone had to come and look at the pics.(My staff is VERY interested in this swap thing!)

Yep - we're all drooling in our socks here with Le Creuset envy! Beautiful casserole! Surely those two growing DSs of Jessy's can help their poor weakling mom lift that when she needs their help?

It's never occurred to me that fortune cookies can be home made - what a good idea! I love that you and the kids made them for Jessy! The spices look yummy. I made my first trek to Pensy's recently, and really enjoyed it. They have soooo much to choose from. It's great you were able to pick out some spices that Jessy didn't already have, but wanted. And that casserole dish! Wow! What a beautiful piece. And the theme is priceless. Jessy, what a great package for you!

Great items you sent to Jessy, Lori. I love homemade fortune cookies.

After just spending an hour or more in Penzey's last week, I can certainly appreciate those items. And what's not to love about the oval baker.

Yay, I'm so glad you like it, Jessy. But I'm cracking up that the LeCreuset was made in Thailand. So much for that theme! LOL I researched it, too, and I know some are made in Thailand, but I thought this was not. And I'll be honest with you, I found it online and it was packed so well, I didn't want to mess up their packing job, so I just looked it over to make sure it wasn't damaged, then repacked in the same box. I never looked at the bottom. Well, THAT'S embarrassing! LOL

I know you have a Penzey's, Jessy, but I also know there were some different ones, so I took a chance you'd still enjoy it. I'm glad it worked out.

The fortune cookies were fun. You can tell the ones I made and the ones the kids made (I hope so, at least!) They are easy-peasy. The ones the kids helped make are larger because they didn't quite get the concept that they'd expand.

I'll grab the recipe and post tomorrow, but it's basically egg white, vanilla, sugar and flour. Simple.

I'm trying to remember some of the sayings. My favorite was Mackenzie's - "kisses spelled backwards does not spell seasick." Not sure where that came from, but it sure did sound like it belonged on a fortune cookie. Confucius at age 6.

In Jessy's & DH's box were simple things like "if you can imagine it, you can live it." For those who don't know the true way to read a fortune cookie, as Jessy explained, after every fotune, you should add the words, "in bed." It certainly changes the meaning of most!

Of course, the kids weren't supposed to know that! ;)

Jessy, this was so much fun. I hope your family enjoyed it as much as mine did.

OK, it's late and I'm using Ashley's laptop and all the type is really tiny. That must be why I read "maharaja curry" as "marijuana curry". ROFLMAO

It's a great box, though, and the roaster is gorgeous. I'll never be able to think about curry again without smirking though....

"In the bed"? Yes, that's what Ashley says you're supposed to do too. Of course, I've never really understood HER...

I love that roaster. I've got several pieces of LeCreuset in that color and it really is wonderful.

The fortune cookies are a great idea, and the spices must smell wonderful.

Fantastic package Jessy. You just can't beat Le Creuset. The only one I have is the same color and we got it at Tuesday Morning. And all the spices! Great stuff Lori. The casserole goes on my list.
