Terri makes me cry - in a GOOD way!! :)

Incredible.

Incredible that AnnT would match us up, incredible that Terri would send such a perfect swap package.

Over the last couple of years I've thought that Terri and I have so much in common, from the different things we volunteer in, to the ages of our kids, the type of cooking we do; busy moms.

When I got my swap box from her yesterday, I was so excited. I have so much respect for Terri because she is such a hard-working, good mom/wife to her three kids and husband.

Terri sent me an all-Terri package. When I say that, i mean it was made entirely by Terri. Everything. I took pictures yesterday but I need to figure out how to get them here, so please be patient with me :) I know it won't be before 8 p.m. eastern time.

First was my prized possession, a handmade apron by Terri. This matches my kitchen EXACTLY. It looks like it was made especially for me - and of course it was. Cool, cool, cool. I told Terri in my "thank you" mail that Connor put it over his head, went in the kitchen, and said, "see if you can find me." He blends right in - "Kitchen Camo." I have reds and gold in my kitchen and they can both be hard to match, but Terri did it perfectly. I think one of the reasons it matches so well is that if you look at her kitchen, you will see that ours are extremely similar. I will use this apron constantly.

Of course, Terri didn't forget I have a little clone and she also sent a hand-made apron for Mackenzie. It is covered with bunnies and I know she will love working side-by-side with me this weekend while we do our Easter baking - and look good while she does it.

Terri also sent Mackenzie a hand-made summer dress. So, so cute! She tried it on right away and although it's just a tad big, it will be perfect for the summer. Terri, I wish you could have seen her reaction when opening these things. You really brightened her (and my) day.

Terri also sent one of her hand-made candles - vanilla scent. I love candles, especially those that smell like food. It inspires me to bake. I'm sure I'll do a lot of baking because I will keep this lit whenever I'm home. It smells delicious. I thank you for sending something to brighten my day - in more ways than one.

There was also some Tayberry jam. I didn't get a chance to taste this yet, but I know I'm going to love it. It will probably be my dinner tonight.

Of course in all her sweetness, Terri threw in a bunch of chocolates and candies for the boys, which quickly got gobbled up (by them, not me!!! - well, maybe one. Two.)

What touched me most, Terri, though, was your note. Terri explained that in such a big country, although we are about as far away from each other as we can be, the tragedies that I've gone through over the last several months have touched her.

Terri, because of you, AnnT and the rest of this forum, the one thing I've learned through all of this is that we are closer than we ever realized, in more ways than one.

Thank you, Terri. I will always cherish your gifts. And as usual, thank you, Ann, for "aligning the stars."

What a wonderful hug from a friend! Such a range of things -- for immediate gratification and long-term warmth as well. And all with the personal touch.

That's such a sweet package, Terri -- and very well-deserved, Lori. I know you'll enjoy those aprons for a long time to come.

That is a sweet package, and I love the apron for MacKenzie idea, as well as the dress.

I'll be waiting for pictures, I know everything is just beautiful. Have some more chocolate. LOL

Just re-checked this thread and saw the race horse comment Jolana made. It's true. Everytime we see the horse peeing in the stall, we whistle to it. This is because after a horse runs in a race and wins, runs second, or is randomly picked by the racing stewards, they must urinate in the Test Barn. They test the urine and the horse's blood for illegal or prohibited drugs. Sometimes when a horse is not in familiar surroundings (for example a strange stall in a strange barn-the test barn) and after the excitement of a race, they are reluctant to pee. So whistling everytime you see them pee is like needing to pee when we hear trickling water, or whatever it is that does it for you. They even have different stalls in the test barn that have different types of bedding (straw, shavings, etc.) so that the horse will feel as comfortable as possible. Then they catch the pee in a big cup that has a long handle attached to it. I've spent two hours starting at 11:00 p.m. in a test barn waiting for my horse to pee. No fun. So.....there ya go. Kristi

Oh Dear God.... I've fallen into a "cute" category now.....has it come to this?!!?!? ;-) I've seen YT vids of one going INTO A LAKE in Texas!!! Not sure what the moron was doing to cause it! It was all over the automotive news a while back! I think a British show "Top Gear" had one of their staff driving it on the famed German Nurburging-track....AT OVER 200 MPH....and he said it was so steady feeling, it was like he was in his living-room chair!!!! All four Turbo's at full song.... Some Ferrari's get pretty shaky well b4 that I think he mentioned.... Cyn- You sound like a Woman after my own heart...;-) Emag- I've been into Cars and machinery since I could form thoughts I believe!! As a little kid on the farm, big/fancy machinery always captivated me! >>> Yes...little Faron had lots of Tonka-trucks, etc. in his big sandpile on the farm! Spent MANY happy hours in that sandpile! Hi Nomorebluekitchen, Wow, have you had a rough time lately, that whole mess sucks. These construction problems appear to be everywhere and it makes me wonder why they aren't more regulated! I have a good friend who (at the same time she was going through a messy divorce) had one nightmare after another with an addition she did to help accomodate three kids she was adopting to add to her own four! She had the contractor from h*ll, who didn't know what he was doing especially in regards to code. He too couldn't tell time and did the opposite of whatever he promised. Everyday it was something new, in the end, he made several errors on the build that cost her a small fortune to correct and it pushed her way over budget. Eventually, she had enough and fired him but not before he had most of her money. To add to the misery, by that time this whole mess in the housing market had taken hold, and she couldn't get any more financing to finish the project with a new contractor. It's been a couple of years now but she, her 7 kids and her (new) husband have been able to finish most of the house on their own and yes...even their 9 year old learned how to help lay floors! I learned from her, that when it comes to people in this industry, do as much as possible on your own, trust is a commodity that's earned and even then, watch 'em like a hawk. Isn't there a way we can request a forum to be started that can be dedicated for these types of issues? Somewhere where members can go to convey positive and negative issues they've experienced with specific companies they're working with. I think it would be an invaluable resource for members of the forum, don't you? In the meantime, I hope this turns around for you, and you're able to come out of it ok. -- Lukki

What to do when it's 100 deg outside? Play with fabric. Went to Joanns this morning to get the two fusibles that shadylady suggested. I've decided to used the fleece backed one for the top of cover, but undecided as to whether I should use the lighter fusible for the pleats, if at all. Here is s pic of pleats, the left pleat has backing and the right one doesn't. Don't see much diff, wondering if I need any at all.

I am so glad that Terri took such good care of you. I think that any of us would have been overjoyed to have been your partner but I know I wouldn't have been able to do as good of a job as Terri did. Thank you Terri.

Oh what a great swap package you received. I love how Terri thought of Mackenzie too. I think hand made (with Love) things are very special too.

um no...no pictures..I always rush and then forget..but I do have another piece of the apron fabric..to make ME a matching apron. LOL..I'll snap that real quick and post it.

Well I knew that Lori deserved more than I could give from so far away. So I had to make it personal. From my heart to hers!

Here's the fabric I used. It's a Batik print, and then I lined it in the gold cotton.

and the apron for Mackenzie is an easter dish towel and some ribbon. Found the instructions online..I use my Kamren as a size model all the time..In fact..he says.."don't make me put it on"..LOL (said when I come near him with a dress!) lol I just want to check length, so hold it up to him. But a few years back..I did make him put one on so I could check the chest fit. ~snort~ However..he thought the apron was for him! So I guess I need to make him one now. LOL

and the dress well..a few hours and viola...Couldn't send a package to someone with a little girl without atleast one dress in it. :o)

~Oh and those goodies for Mackenzie were to make up for the tears..Did it work?

Teri, you have a heart of gold. Lori, you are so deserving of all the wonderful swap gifts you received. Every time you wear the apron, let it make you feel like you are being hugged by a good friend:-) I so admire people who can sew and make such beautiful hand work, it is a talent that you don't see so much anymore. I have a couple of dresses that terri made that Rhiannon just loves, she makes such beautiful things. It took me awhile to reply to this post, I also like to include handmade things and know how much love is put into them. I know things have been rough at your house but this package is like a big old hug that you can even wear and think of us when you use you use the apron.

What a nice thing to do Terri. Handmade is the most special gift of all. Lori, you are so lucky to have drawn her. I was really thinking Ann did this randomly for a long time, now I'm not so sure. If you need help posting there are a lot of experts here. I would really like to see the pics.

Terri, all those things people posted above are so true...you are a very talented saint!

I figured out how to get the pictures from the camera onto my computer...just in time to see my favorite model fall asleep on the couch.

I'll take pics and post tomorrow night (I know this isn't difficult...for the normal person.)

Ps. James, it stopped being feasible to draw names after about the third swap. Now I just try to match up members that haven't sent to each other and hopefully don't live in the same neck of the woods. And some matches, well, some matches just seem right.

Oh you lucky duck. I was the recipient of Terri's Tayberry Jam and boy do I wish I had more. It is fantastic. Enjoy -- but eat it slowly. You'll be sad when it is gone.

I have a "Made by Terri" apron, too! I use it all the time. The handiwork on it is lovely. How thoughtful that Terri made one for MacKenzie, too. And a summer dress! I think I remember seeing her dresses on Chance, too.

What a lovely and thoughtful swap box. Ann matched up two very special people.

Stacy, that was my last jar of tayberry jam until this summer. It's the best stuff. It's a cross between a raspberry and a blackberry..bit like a logan berry, but the texture is soft like a raspberry. And it's got a ton of natural pectin, and the seeds are usually soft. I have some freezer tay..but the canned stuff is now all gone..

I may just have to have a lottery for Tayberry Jam come August and September. :o)

How lovely to recieve a hand sewn apron, and a hand sewn dress for your daughter as well as an apron for her! (Terri you have been one busy lady)! Homemade candles are soo wonderful, and vanilla is one of my favourite scents..lucky you. Tayberry jam sounds wonderful, I have never had a tayberry, whats it like? I am sure the men folk enjoyed the chocolates, (I hope they shared). What an extra special package, in that it was made with hands of love. Enjoy it all!
