I got home late last night (had a girl's night right after work) and found a HUGE package waiting for me! What could it be?!?

Well, let me tell you, I think David was able to figure me out just fine, even though as he said, if you search on 'finally' you get just about every page on gardenweb! When I picked 'finally' way back when, I thought how fun it would be to sign my posts like: finally(decided on a dishwasher) or finally(got the plans approved). Even adding a curly dash in front doesn't help--the search engine treats '~finally' just like 'finally'. :(

But, as I said, David got everything perfect.

For Cooking Method, he chose Baking--my favorite! The Pie Plate was made by a local pottery place that has been in business since the '40s, and the sage green color matches my kitchen accessories perfectly. I can't wait to fill it with a nice fruit cobbler, or a fruit or even chicken pot pie. I love the scalloped edges.

For Glass, he found a wonderful oval serving plate with incredible black swirls. It will look beautiful with hors d'oeuvres or small desserts on it. I don't know if you can see, but there are small little bubbles in the glass. It is another original art piece--such a generous gift!

For Ethnic, it's Dessert! "American Dessert is ethnic, right?" David said. I couldn't agree more! I can't wait to make all of the recipes. There are so many old favorites, some forgotten, and many new jewels. DD (Doggy!) even wonders if there are recipes for biscuits for him in it! I need to make a dessert for a coworker's birthday on Monday, so I'll be trying something from this great new book. It has lots of instructional information too. A good read and good recipes--my favorite kind of cookbook!

And couldn't resist DD (Doggy!) Ronin: "Are there biscuit recipes in here?"

David, it was a super swap package. Everything was absolutely perfect. Thank you soooo much!

You scored! I've had David as a swap buddy too and agree that he has great taste in gift choosing! I love the way the pie plate and the dish look together. The pottery is really nice too. Good job David!

Super job David, especially with everything that you have been dealing with lately. You must have packed everything pretty good, I would be afraid to send two pieces of pottery/glass.

It sounds like the 40 watt UV lamp is strong enough to eliminate your suspended algae in a few days. I have a similar strong system on a seperate pump. I run my UV if algae appears and shut it off when the water clears. I know I can control algae within a few days, so I don't run my UV unless I see green. If I catch the bloom early I can eliminate it relatively quickly. I would run the UV system until the pond is clear. Once clean, you can shut down the UV clarifier and see what happens. You can always re-start the clarifier if the algae returns. Once your plants are established, the aglae problem should go away. I seldom use my UV clarifier, but I'm glad its there if needed.

Definition of a Cottage Garden

I'm thrilled to have discovered this forum! My garden has, for a number of years, been "Cottage" style for want of any other definition. Informal, closely planted, started out planned but evolved. What I like about this style is that there is often a surprise awaiting on a stroll thru the garden - a little self-seeded plant, large rock placed to support a statue left when the statue was moved, a garden decoration peeking out from beneath the overgrown foliage. Perhaps even an unidentified plant which may or may not be a "weed". There's room for those to stay for awhile until their true nature is determined! I don't believe that a cottage garden should only be allowed next to a cottage home, or that there are many "requirements" for such a garden. There are as many cottage garden styles as there are cottage gardeners because of the informal and personal nature of the style. It's perfect for those of us who buy plants on a whim wherever we find them and happily accept extras from other gardeners without a concern as to where we will plant them. My choice has also been to have an organic garden so birds are an important part as they keep the insects in check. I have saved this entire thread and look forward to reading everyone's ideas when I am more awake!

I got it! Sorry, just saw this thread... Loved the series, hated the movies (well, hated the first one and decided I wouldn't waste my time & $$ on the others.) I think I started watching it when Leonard Nimoy was on...not sure. I do know I only saw the Barbara Bain/Martin Landau ones in syndication...(I've probably got you beat in the age thing...I'm always the oldest...at the kids' schools, etc. At least those who know how old I am always gasp w/surprise telling me I don't look that old...even if they don't mean it, it feels good to hear it!) Anyway... Congrats on finally getting there! Once it's all done all the angst will be forgotten and you'll be able to revel in your "new" home! Your DH must really love you if he saw what it was doing to you and put his resistance aside for you! Congratulations on that as well!! :-)

Shiela, we don't know. Billa was so under age but as he grew strong and received all his shots. When he started to spray the house and with vet advise to have him sprayed. He was very healthy and happy cat. We did not do any autopsy because they charge a lot. But the vet believes it is anesthesia that may have cause it. He said he used recommended for cats but after I been googling and talking to a lot of cat breeders like the second cat which was a pure breed. The ACK breeders told us this docs used too much meds but when they have theirs cats spray after shows and all. They put them on lower dosage . So when time came we ask the same vet if not we will take Ragmuffin cat to recommended vets where most AKC breeders go to. The vet told us he followed the protocol of the recommendation provide by state but he can make an exceptional and used less medicine for us. He agreed that it can be too strong for some cats. Our vet is not private but works for Animal hospital by State . The Siamese kitten we found must be thrown away by someone. It was not a stray kitten. It was so young that he can only move by two front legs and he was dragging his back hind legs. Barely opening his eyes believe he might be less than 3 weeks old. We look for a nest the next day and basically the whole week. None at all and no other kittens or cat. His chances without a mother was barely 10 per cent and we follow very strick schedule until he grew stronger and stronger. We wrap him up with baby blankets / towels. We bought best milk from vets, bottles, heating pad and all. We believe he gave Billa too much medicine or maybe allegic reaction. The vet has never lost an animal except for 2 in his life time. Even he believes it could be the above too much or allegic. It greatly affected him so he went with lesser amount for us. Jin

All three items are great! I love the glass piece, so much would look great on it.
Since dessert is my favorite meal, you would know I love that book. I'm sure you will enjoy the pie dish, I have several I like to use.

LOVE the plate! It would be so pretty with a whole trout surrounded my lemon slices and parsley!! You will love the pie plate! I have a pottery pie plate and the first time I used it I could not believe the difference in my crust!!

And what is it with us-- that we all go gaga over "dishes" for heaven's sake ? Tools of our "trade" maybe ? And so nice that we'll give them to a Forum friend .

Those 2 pieces sure are beautiful David--ya did good .

I can't decide which item I like the best..I love the pie plate..it's the perfect green for my kitchen, and I love that fluted edge..Teresa gave me a fluted pie plate in the last swap.

wonderful package. that pie plate is just wonderful, i bet that apple pie on the cover of the recipebook would taste oh so scrumptious coming out of it! so many uses for the glass plate.

David where do you get all the nice pottery from? I wish that we had a pottery place up here where I live. I have a nice piece of pottery, that David had sent to me in the last Swap. I just love it, and all my guests ask me where I got it from.I use it for a fruit bowl, because I think it is to nice to keep in the cupboard. You did well again David and I love the plate too!!! Oooooo....pretty. The color of that pie plate would go quite well with the Japanese bowls Goldgirl sent me. David gave scallops and got scallops, hehe.

The glass dish is striking. Linda, you'll have to post pics if you make one like that.

And the book. Looks like Food Porn to me.
