...a box from Karen/Riverrat!!

It's been a long week at the office, but I knew this would wake me up...and I wasn't disappointed!!

I opened the box and found some {{gwi:1460860}}. The biggest package contained a gorgeous {{gwi:1460861}} from the Wortman Pottery Studio & Showroom in Duson, Louisiana. It's heavy and just beautiful! I love it, Karen!!

The {{gwi:1460862}} contained a handmade wooden spoon called a "Pass_Thru Spoon" from Real Cajun Cypress Cookin' Spoons. It's an ingenious style to stir soups, stews, etc.

The third item in Karen's package was a cookbook I almost bought when I was working in Louisiana last summer, called "Talk About Good!" by the Junior League of LaFayette. I love regional cookbooks, and some of the junior league cookbooks are among my favorites, and this one proves to be no exception! Lots of cajun-style and cajun-influenced recipes I can't wait to try!

Thanks all. It is indeed a real pleasure to see the "fruits" of your labor. Every time my aunt comes by, I remind her how she said it would never survive. This tree was planted in the Spring of 2001 after a saw palmetto failed the year prior. It was ordered online and shipped from Florida in about a 3 gallon pot with no visible trunk. I remember thinking back then how psyched I would be once it gained some height, if it even made it through its first, or subsequent, Winter. After numerous mini greenhouses, Christmas lights, and now, nothing at all, here we are. In the Summer, it probably gets at least 6-7 hrs. of full sun, then, late afternoon shade due to a large maple under which I built a tiki bar. The fig tree next to it is much older, and unless I prune it way down, shades it some even more.

Hi Lynn, what an awesome idea for mirrored doors to keep the shoes dust free and the close look less cluttered! If you check the link below you'll find pix of our closet in progress. I never did get final pix since we started using it and it became not so easy to photograph then. I do believe this might help you since we have our shoes at the far end of our closet with clothes on either side. What are the measurements of your closet? Have you thought about covering your clothing with bags meant to keep them dust free instead of raising them? I'm only five four and a half so my side of the closet is a bit lower than my hubbies which gave me some added storage above my double rods where he had none. mary, our tile installation wasn't too bad. I picked a glazed sculptured terra cotta for $1.50 a tile and installing cost $5.50 a square foot. My main deciding factor was that this was a cement slab. We had almost 500 square feet. The grout lines catch everthing. Sigh. I'm not sure you will be happy with a carpet glued to cement. It's going to feel really hard. What about the laminate, which looks like tile? It will give some cushion and stand up to the wear and tear of the pets and be much easier to clean. I think those look really nice. I have a friend who did her main living level with the stuff. Laminate installation here costs $2.50 a square foot. Gloria

Door to garage through hidden walk-in pantry?

Very nice idea at first thought BUT I see a several drawbacks. ONE, I would not want the dirt and dust from the garage being tracked through the pantry where all my food is stored. TWO, when you bring in your bags from the grocery you need a "landing area" to put them down to unpack them, so unless that pantry is big enough to allow for clear counter space to do that your idea would not work so well. THIRD, not all the items you bring home from the store are going in the pantry, some items are going to the refrigerator or freezer and cleaning supplies may go under the sink, toilet paper and other supplies may need go to the bathroom, etc. FOURTH, there are many more reasons to go between the garage and the house than unloading groceries. I would not want to track through the pantry for all those other times.

I am always in awe of those that have/take the time to individually wrap their items! That's such a nice touch, but I can never seem to get myself together enough to do it!

Can't wait to see some of those Cajun recipes posted. That spoon is cool and that pottery plate is "da bomb"!

Great job, Karen, I can tell that Lori loves everything you so carefully chose for her!

I love that piece of pottery, it is so beautiful. The spoon looks very cool as well and the cookbook is wonderful but that plate is really unusual. I love the gift wrapping with the bubble wrap. There goes my excuse for not wrapping my items, I also think the bubble wrap makes it impossible.

The packaging and bows are so pretty...I think I would have to wait a bit to open up the goodies.

Gorgeous glaze on the plate and so interesting and unique too! I love cookbooks by local organizations and try to pick them up when we travel. I've never been disappointed in the contributions of members.

I use wooden utensils almost exclusively and have never seen a spoon like this one! It has to go on TODO list as a must buy!

What a unique package. The plate and spoon are lovely and who wouldn't want to try all those Cajun recipes. When I visited there EVERYTHING I ate was totally delicious. Great package.

Ooooh Lori get a better close up of that pottery! Looks very practical. Thats our Karen - practical, like the other two items in the package.

Dang my library doesn't have that cookbook so I can't peruse it!

Yeah Linda I feel your pain on wrapping incapacitation too. Sigh.

wonderful package. the plate is just gorgeous. very interesting spoon, i don't recall ever seeing one of them in any kitchen supply store. quite interesting.

Totally unique and totally beautiful. I love pottery and that plate is way up there as in gorgeous! Love the unique stirring spoon and I too hope Lori shares some recipes.

Oh, wow... that pottery! But being the Louisiana fan that I am, you really scored with the cookbook. I love Junior League cookbooks. Those women really know how to cook, regionally. Great package!

That spoon looks like a needle I could actually thread!

What a great invention, and I LOVE that pottery plate! So sophisticated and with such visual interest. Lots of Louisiana fans on this forum. Maybe we need a virtual Louisiana style meal?
