WANTED: Fun with Swaps!

You guys, swaps keep on giving long after the swap is over. Yes, I rabidly consumed all the consumables I've received after a swap. But in the past week, I've used many swap gifts I've received. Tonight I shook myself a pomegranite martini from Peppi's shaker and served it up in the martini glass Chase (Sharon) sent... Sunday, we served ourselves tapas in the plates and cute silver that Sharon sent... And now I pour myself cereal into the lemon bowls Doris (RuddMD) sent.

Last week with the L.A. group, Scott told me he brought the little pictures I made for him in the first swap to his new place in Los Angeles.

So you'll find yourself using your gifts frequently and remembering your buddy fondly!

Just wanted to put this message out there before the flurry of packages hit.

The swaps are so much fun! I've gotten some wonderful things from my swap buddies.

I used the two bowls I received from my last swap partner, May (lowspark), several weeks ago when we celebrated DH 50th birthday.

This is my fourth or fifth swap, in the past I've have received wonderful items from around the country and Canada.

I can't wait until all the packages start arriving. We have a very creative group.

Diana, I also use a lot of things I got from forum members. I still have a bottle of the olive oil you got me, and I loved them all (but the Marsala was THE BEST). I think of you every time I saute something in olive oil. I used the SilPat Jessica brought me when I made calzones a couple of weeks ago and the silicon brush that RobinKate sent me to paint the glaze on Makayla's castle cake. I think of Weed and David whenever I bake pies in their pans, and I wore Nancy's apron today. Makayla loves the little ramekins Carol sent me for MLCs, she puts snacks in them, and I still smile when I pull out a jar of jam in the jars that Deb sent me. Of course, Ann's dachshund is waiting in the garage and I see it and think of summer when I can let him guard the house again. Ashley loves the sunflower bowl Ellen sent, I'll never get it back and my fingers are gonna love Teresa when it's time to plant the garden and I have those rubberized gloves. Everyone grins at Woodie's message center.

There are countless times I use something from the forum, from an item to an ingredient to a recipe and they are all wonderful, from an amazing group of people.

The swaps will give you items you didn't even KNOW you needed, but you'll love them and use them repeatedly.

DRATS!!! Yet ANOTHER year I missed the swap!!!! : ( I have missed the last few, due to the fact that I have to work every Saturday in the spring.. I tried really hard to get off this year too..Anyway, I would not have the plants and the beautiful garden I have today were it not for past swaps!....So much of what I have is due to this wonderful meeting!...Ya'll have made a LOT of people very happy!

Glad you enjoyed yourself Alison. I did! I'm rather glad that it was a small intimate group for the first time I've hosted a swap! I hope that everyone enjoyed the company on such a glorious fall day. Today I went out and planted the bounty that remained from the swap. We participate in the Galveston County swap, Fort Bend (missed last 2 because of Ike) and the Mercer swap, two named after the counties where we're at(I NEED caffine) and the other named for where we hold the swap. Perhaps next year ya'll can just do a joint swap to avoid confusion with the group at the other pavilion. I would have had to go to both swaps!! But I'm a junkie, like the rest of you enablers, lol. The Houston plantswap or some name like that joined us at Mercer a few years ago, they come every year, they just put their sign up on their table and we all have one big happy swap. Jim said he had a great time & finally got to meet some of ya'll and put faces to names. He is so organized and his plants are always so perfect. Unlike mine. We're going up to see him if it ever quits raining. Sisterhood of the traveling plants would be great except a lot of our gardeners are men. SAPS, no, but it is kind of fitting, sap from the trees & all, but who wants to be known as a sap? And the letters are too confusing to most people. Is there already a San Antonio plant swap? If not can you use that name? Or do you want Gardenweb in there somewhere? Tally Ho!

I was just thinking the other day, as I stand at my kitchen sink..and look out the window..that I love the little stained glass lady bug that hangs on it. It's for a swap years and years ago from a wonderful Stainglass artisan that used to post at the Kitchen Table. When we remodeled the kitchen..that little lady bug quickly went back up on the window!
It is so nice to have wonderful cherished gifts from friends on the net!

I just used the beautiful red toille placemate with the embroidered "C" from TrixieTX last night at our soup party. I use her olive oil bottle everyday, and last night used the dipping plates also. (And I would kill for more of the wonderful Red Mud sauce that she sent.) I Also used the adorable olive tray that Lakeguy sent, and the gorgeous slate cheese board. I love my swap packages.

I adore the Microplane that Arabella Miller sent me in my first swap and she's also responsible for getting me hooked on Penzey's spices. David sent me so many great things, but one of the greatest is Head Country BBQ sauce! I use the Seafood Marinade (bought more myself), silver palate cookbook, the salmon seasoning, the oils, etc, etc, etc. The homemade aprons from MJ Mercer are always fun and in use too. The fabulous soup cookbook, homemade honey and lovely soup bowls, mats etc from JimTexas are cherished items as well.

Woodie is responsible for getting me hooked on swaps! She sent me so many incredible things, for me, my kids AND my cats that I was hooked.

I get loads of compliments on the gorgeous tomato pitcher from Diana. It looks spectaclular with an all white arrangement. And just yesterday I used the Rachel Ray Cooking with kids cookbook that Gina sent. I also use her whale dishes with the kids all the time.

I know there's loads more, but I just woke up so I'm not thinking clearly!

I love this forum ;-)!

A couple of weeks ago I used something from every swap box I've received from the CF. We had a cheese plate for our lunch. We ate out of Jessys plates, Marcias (cololady) spoon rest and spice jar for dipping spices, and Eileens (barnmom) wooden cheese board from Napa Valley. I thought of everyone on the CF that day and had a big smile throughout lunch!
