Sidnee sent me the perfect package!

Weeeheeeee!! I had a not-so-great day today and came home drained. And what was waiting for me? A large box!! Perfect for chearing up the downtrodden!

Julie (aka Sidnee) sent me some yummy wonderful things. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was part of the word "chocolate" peaking through. That was a sign of good things to come. Her letter mentioned buying things for me from Trader Joes which really sounded great cuz there's not one around here!

Julie sent me a LOT of chocolate (one who loves chocolate as I do can never have too much of this food of the gods!)

She also included a jar of her homemade salsa -- gonna put that together with chips & cheese tonight for a decadent nacho dinner for myself! Can't wait!

Next, check out this black truffle oil from Trader Joe's -- I'm excited to try that!! And a beautiful grape oil dispenser -- looks great in my "grape" kitchen wouldn't you say?

Knowing I'm a molten lava cake virgin, Julie sent me 4 ramekins and her recipe for MLCs. Ok, now I have no excuse to remain a virgin! Ramekins, recipe and all that chocolate!! I promise to make it soon!

And finally, Julie included a GRAPE tootsie pop - how cute and clever!

Here's everything. Thank you so much, Julie, for a wonderful swap package. Now I'm off to enjoy some of it, and don't worry, I'll definitely be munching chocolate tonight!!!

El, I don't think anyone who is a regular would think that? But who knows, I could be wrong as well? I just thought, like I said before he might pop on just to say it was him, he may get the urge to lurk for a min or two. Also had the thought that maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions, automatically assuming it was Mike..I don't know if there is anyone else in on the SS who is from Arkansas, or not, but we could have been wrong about it being him..know what I mean? Didn't want to jump out there saying it was Mike, saying what a great SS he is, and then it NOT be him, ya know? I know it will prob be awhile before he's back again..but we can hope it will be sooner than later. I feel so bad about that situation. And for anyone who may think we are clicky..we're not :) lol

Thanks, Debbie, for starting the recipe. I'll copy and paste your part to make it easier, but here's the rest added on to the end: Pumpkin Pie with Hazelnuts from "French Women Don't Get Fat" Piecrust: 2/3 c unsifted flour pinch of salt 1 TB sugar 6 TB chilled butter 1 1/2 TB ice cold water Filling: 1/3 cup ground hazelnuts 1/4 cup granulated brown sugar 2 TB softened butter 2 eggs, plus 1 egg yolk 1 cup unsweetened canned pumpkin puree (organic, natural preferred) 1 TB flour 2/3 cup granulated brown sugar 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground cloves 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup heavy cream 1. Put the flour, pinch of salt, and sugar in the bowl of a food processor and pulse to combine. 2. Cut the chilled butter into small pieces and add to the bowl. Also add the water and process for 15 seconds. If the dough is too dry, add more water by droplets. The dough should just hold together. Do not knead. 3. Wrap the dough in waxed paper and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight. 4. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out the pastry and fit it into a 9 inch pie plate, 2 inches deep. Prick the pastry with a fork all over the bottom. Line the pie plate with alumimum foil. Add pie weights or dried beans to weigh down the dough, and bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove from the oven and discard foil and beans. 5. Increase the oven temperature to 450 degrees. Prepare the filling by combining hazelnuts, 1/4 cup granulated brown sugar, and butter. Work into a paste and spread with the back of a fork or a rubber spatula into the partially cooked pastry shell. Bake for 10 minutes. 6. Mix together the eggs, egg yolk, pumpkin puree, flour, 2/3 cup granulated brown sugar, spices, salt, and heavy cream. Pour into the pastry shell. Turn the oven temperature down to 325 degrees and bake the pie for 45 minutes. 7. Serve at room temperature or cold. Optional: Serve with unsweetened whipped cream ( 1 cup for the entire pie) on the side. The pie will keep a few days in the refrigerator. Always take out 15 minutes before serving. Oh, Annie, this was one of the few I thought I had posted to while on vacation using my DStepFIL's dial-up. So sorry for the delay. A few on dial-up did me in until I returned home. Glad I checked your thread!! I just love that picnic basket and the comfy looking blankets. Picnic cookbooks, always a favorite with me! The cool and refreshing items look fun. What a wonderful box, I can't wait to see the quilted hanging and I think it's really cool that Doris and Teresa collaborated on the labels. I received some White Lily flour in my first swap, and some Martha White mixes - can't buy either here. I know you'll enjoy using them. Are Raoul and Tex related????? I am so glad you liked the package, you were so much fun to shop for. Now, get busy and lose that virginity! I can not think of a better weekend dessert than a MLC. As for the truffle oil, let me know what you tried it with. I have a bottle of white truffle oil that Ken turns his nose up at. I guess I am going to have to sneak it into something. LOL

Oh Terri, the ghiradelli makes wonderful chocolate chip cookies.

What a terrific box to receive! The homemade salsa is so special! I'd love some of that! I'm afraid I'd eat all that chocolate in one sitting if that came my way!! I love the oil bottle. Beautiful! Truffle oil! Lucky you! The ramekins are always good to have! Great box!

My favorite way to use it is drizzled over slightly wet scrambled eggs-its devine!!!

We ate almost all of that jar of salsa last night! (It was just me & DS eating it too!) It was really good. I hope to make the MLCs next weekend (I'll be out of town this weekend) and will let you know how they turn out. And choco chunk cookies -- mmmmm. My kids will go nuts!!! Thanks for that suggestion!

I have been meaning to pick up that truffle oil when I make my trip to TJ's in Chicago, but I never do. I always talk myself out of it because I don't know what I would do with it. Next trip and it is going in my cart!

What a great group of gifts. That truffle oil is always on my list for the few times a year I can shop at TJ's.

You'll be in chocolate heaven with that big hunk. Can't wait to hear about your MLCs, Mae. I haven't made them yet either.

I am in awe of anyone who cans. The salsa looks yummy. I could have called that dinner too.

Wonderful package Julie. Homemade salsa sounds great. I have to disagree about making cookies with the chocolate though. I think I would just eat it, LOL.

OK, what do you do with truffle oil? Sounds too expensive to use. But such pretty bottles. Glad there's not a TJ close. LOL

Mae, I love the MLC's so I always buy a hunk of chocolate when I go to Trader Joe's. I know there's been a lot of discussion about the MLC's in the past, but don't be intimidated to make them. Mine came out perfect the first time. Enjoy that salsa! Enjoy ALL your wonderful goodies!

That truffle oil: Deanna, one of my favorite things to do with it came from Paulines:

On asparagus!
2 pounds asparagus stalks, washed and trimmed
2 tablespoons white truffle oil
1 1/2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon champagne wine vinegar
1/4 teaspoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon sea salt (fleur de sel)
Few grindings of black pepper
In a small bowl, whisk together while truffle oil, olive oil, champagne wine vinegar, lemon juice, sea salt, and black pepper; set aside or refrigerate until ready to use. If refrigerating, bring to room temperature before using.

Blanch the asparagus in lightly salted boiling water for about 3 minutes or until crisp-tender; do not overcook. Remove from heat and refresh under cold water; drain well. Toss asparagus with enough truffle vinaigrette to lightly coat. Arrange asparagus on serving platter or individual serving plates.

Makes 4 to 6 servings.

I also like to drizzle it on goat cheese and beets salads. Golden beets, if I can find them!
