WANTED: Lots of goodies from Jayne!

When I got into the office this morning, there was a nice big Priority box from Minneapolis MN sitting on my desk! What a wonderful surprise on Valentine's Day - chocolate, more chocolate, and lots of goodies from Jayne/kent!

Everything was well protected and cushioned for the journey. And get this, Jayne colored coded the wrappings so I would know which grouping belonged together! ha!

Here from Trader Joe's is Two Buck Chuck Merlot, orange muscat champagne vinegar, lemon balsamic vineger, red pepper spread, and the forum favorite, chile lemon pistashios.

Next is the chocolate group: two kinds of Droste Pastilles, and six exotic chocolate bars from Vosges, the likes of which I have never seen - Black Pearl (sesame seeds, wasabi), Oaxaca (pasilla chillies), Creole (espresso, chicory), Naga (curry powder, coconut), Gianduja (hazelnuts, almonds, praline), and Woolloomooloo (macadamia nuts, coconut, hemp seed).

And the third group, special oils and a new bread book: Blood Orange oil, EVOO (hand picked, first press, from California) and Elizabeth David's English Bread and Yeast Cookery. Jayne did some sleuthing to find out I have wanted this book for a long, long, time!

Jayne - see you worry too much - everything arrived in one piece.

Teresa - I know you are going to enjoy this. How cool Jayne found the bread making book you have been wanting.

The blood orange oil sounds intriguing, I can't wait to hear how you use this.

Doodys, that amber glass is beautiful!! Those flowers will look great on a wall or fence! Pretty plate, is it hand painted? Might want to keep it inside if it is! 10cents a plate !!Wow!! More like $1.98 & if marked down 99cents, we never have bargains like rest of country. I think antique store owners get to TS owners & get lot of it. Saves them lot of time & they might pay a little more or take a lot of stuff off their hands. Every time new TS opens there is great stuff & then by time it is there a year less & less. No more old dolls, depression glass, hand painted plates, oil paintings etc. Went to several yard sales last weekend, mostly clothes for kids & baby stuff or adult clothes, no glassware of interest. Did get 5 necklaces with beads at couple of sales so that was nice. Oh, got a book on Cacti & Succulents at the "cemetery sale" think I mentioned it- they are raising money $15,000 to do search with plane that can see bones. They have been told there is 600 people in that little space, don't think it is even 1/2 of a city block. Only 2oo+ have been marked. So they will have sales often. It's just getting time for good sales, well maybe not this weekend, supposed to be over 100 degrees out!! Was 69 today when I went out.Jan

Nice haul! NC has very nice Hostas and you usually receive multiples (separate plants). I'm on there occasionally and see your name (I think) and I don't believe I've ever trumped one of your bids! Hasn't been very successful for me, as it seems whatever I want, someone else is willing to pay more than I can afford for the item! Oh well, it's fun trying anyway. There was a classic bidding frenzy about a month ago on one of NCs Hosta 'Laura & Darrell', which began at a reasonable $15. and wound up 45 bids later at $150. Nope, it didn't involve me! Already had the Hosta once, didn't perform well for me. Good luck with your winners!

Oh boy, I love everything. In a previous swap, Cathy sent me red Hawaiian Sea Salt, it is wonderful. Never heard of black lava salt or strawberry balsamic vinegar, but sure sounds like a good way to dress a summer salad. What a nice package, Debbie. Gina, looks like your new kitchen is making progress, enjoy your goodies!

I'm so glad it made it all in one piece! The bean pots didn't have boxes, so I was concerned that between those and the glass maple syrup bottles we might have some breakage, and a mess!! Glad the mess was avoided :-) So, no, I didn't cheat! Really. My your choice category was "New England Foods" - so Indian Pudding and Maple Syrup. That's one item. (Let's pretend you eat them together LOL!!! ) The grades of maple syrup are: Vermont Fancy Vermont Grade A Medium Amber Vermont Grade A Dark Amber Vermont Grade B you can get more info on the Vermont grades (which I guess are different from other maple syrup grades?) at this link: Vermont Maple Syrup Grades and Jessy, I thought about the beano, but I figured Gina could take care of that herself... or use one of the non-bean recipes in the cookbook! Indian pudding is a baked custard with milk, butter, molasses, eggs, spices, and cornmeal. Here's more info and a recipe for it... Indian Pudding. I've only had this canned variety... cooked in a double boiler. and if I had a dog, I'd want those bowls, too. Target, can you believe it?? The rest of the goodies came from the Mystic Seaport Museum Gift and Bakeshop.

Teresa...I'm so glad you like everything. Very cleaver of me to start that thread about Bread Baking books, huh? Let me know about the exotic chocolate bars...I thought they sounded a little "different". Enjoy.

Doris...Yeah, I was relieved none of those glass bottles broke...I was really fretting.

Sherry, yes, it was mailed form Indianapolis...postage label was maybe blurry and it maybe looked like Minneapolis...similar.

Well....it looked like Minneapolis to me - lol! Wipe the egg off my face. Guess there is more than math that I'm not good at.

O.k., now I've got to have a recipe for the Red Pepper Spread with eggplant and garlic! It is so yumo! Tried it on a rosemary and olive oil Trisket tonight. Hmmmmmmmm......

Wooohoooo Jayne! Great package. I'm thinking I'd love those choco bars ;-).

Teresa, The Orange Muscat Champagne Vinegar is wonderful. Jayne gave us some when we met in Florida last summer. It didn't last long in my house!

What a super package. You certainly do get kudos for cleverly starting the bread book thread Jayne.

I'm intrigued by that brand of chocolate too.

You will love the orange vinegar, it's always on my list for TJ's. I think Lars shared a tip about pairing fruit vinegars with nut oits and I've used the orange vinegar with walnut oil in salad dressings.

I know you'll enjoy it all Teresa.

Great categories Jayne. I especially love the olive oils and the cookbook. Teresa, you are going to love that cookbook. I've had that same one since 1980. There is something about British Cookbooks. Enjoy.

Teresa, I've been working on that red pepper spread for a while now, it's one of my favorite snacks. I'm having a little trouble since USDA says you can't can eggplant! LOL I'm getting closer, though.

What a great package, Jayne, I told you she'd love it. Sneaky, sneaky, starting that cookbook thread. (grin) I'm proud of you.

Well, I have now sampled all the chocolates and I'm half way throught the red pepper spread. All are delicious.

It's interesting to me, the dark chocolate purist, that I find I really like the milk chocolate bars with the interesting additions. At lunch just now I sampled the Naga bar with sweet Indian curry and coconut - very subtle. And the Woolloomooloo bar with hemp seeds and toasted macadamia nuts was also delicious. The Black Pearl was very good even if it does leave little black sesame seeds in your teeth to crunch on after the chocolate is gone.

I've got to come up with a recipe for that red pepper spread. The label lists red pepper, eggplant, garlic, sugar, vegetable oil, acetic acid or vinegar, and hot pepper. It is so good you just can't stop eating it. So, I have to learn how to make something similar. The ajvar recipes I have found are the closest to it maybe.

So much attention to special things:) I have never seen thsoe chocolate bars..My husband would love them!

On my last trip to Mass I bought the OJ Champagne vinegar and the pepper spread:) They caught my eye!
