WANTED: Perfection in a box from Doucanoe!

This box could not have come at a better time. I needed this box today!

Linda, You've outdone yourself! This is a beautiful swap box, one that I will treasure for a long time.

First things first. The front of the envelope was addressed "To my dear friend Karen" and how true that is! We have become good friends, sharing in common health ailments, among other things! LOL!

We both love to eat and prepare soups and you hit the nail on the head picking this cookbook for me! It's a beautiful book. There are so many recipes that I want to try but I'm thinking I'll try the Jalapeno-Corn Chowder first. Then Cream of Tomato Soup with Puff Pastry Crowns.

I remember posting that red is a favorite color of mine. I needed a gratin dish and this fits the bill perfectly. It is a wonderful match to the Portmeirion dishes that I use everyday. I've been using a round casserole dish when I make Crab Au-gratin. I now have a proper dish for the gratins that I bake.

See the little teddy bear in the gratin dish? That's one of those brown sugar bears that keeps your brown sugar soft. I soooo needed one. DH and I were just talking about where I would be able to find one. Wow, your a mind reader too!

Just look at these dishes! Not one but two of them! Linda, they are perfect. I think they will be displayed as works of art! Guys, Linda hand made these dishes. I know you are a talented glass worker. OMG, these are beautiful. In your note you were worried that they wouldn't match. Just look at how perfectly they go with the granite in my kitchen.

I love these swaps and they seem to get better and better as time goes on. Linda, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to research me (I know I'm a tough one) and spending the time making these glass dishes for me. These are very special and I'll always think of you when I see them. Same goes for all my other goodies. Thank you again for a box of perfection!

WOW!!!! I'll say that is "Perfection in a Box". The soup cook book looks great. What kind of soup is on the cover? And Linda's glass dishes are beautiful. The colour is just perfect with your granite Karen. And I love that casserole dish. I know that you will put it too good use. Enjoy!

I haven't tasted the jam. My mom opened it today, and she wasn't to keen on it, but she's not into Amaretto..I on the other hand LOVE the flavor of it. I'll have to give it a try tomorrow. I don't usually eat alot of bread or bread products though, so I'll have to remember to make a piece of toast. LOL Oh and the balloon bombs are GONE! 90 degree weekend made the boys need them.

I am also having fun reading the newspaper that was used as packing material. Life in Minnesota is different from life in Philadelphia. To start, it seems most of the population there have last names that end in "sen" "son" or "gren", or start with "van" or have double vowels --"aa" or "uu". It seems to be a less hectic place and it's fun to read the birth announcements. Even in our local paper we don't have those sorts of sweet things. Only obituaries. Minnesota seems like a very nice place and, as Jessy can attest, I am picking up the accent, you betcha.

RR, they grow so quickly, I want to have pictures so I can remember when I was still the center of the universe for The Princess, and when Bruvver would still climb on my lap and kiss me. I want to remember that "Alfalfa" cowlick Bruvver always has, and Makayla's curls. Gotta take pictures, Maggie will be in college before you can blink! Linda, that cookie cutter is the only thing that will ever get Makayla to eat a carrot, I swear. (grin) Or a rabbit either, for that matter, LOL. Jim, Makayla rides Copenhagen every chance she gets but Bruvver is happiest on a tractor. Or a loader. Or the bulldozer. LOL He loves to go "two tracking" with the Jeep and his sister is happier on horseback. I'm also happier on horseback but when I sold that little old Allis Chalmers C model that Dad and I put together from parts in boxes, I cried. I loved that tractor, even if it did need a new throw-out bearing (which cost $20 for the part cut you had to crack the tractor in half to replace, LOL). Yup, definitely had to make a tractor cookie, even if I didn't have Allis Chalmers orange cookie dough.... Annie

Annie, Yes, Linda has brought us all together once again. Chase, I'll never forget our visit! Ahhhh, those chorizo stuffed dates. I make them on occasion but they are never as good as the ones at Rattlesnakes. Monsignor still stops by without knocking on the door. Always checks the back freezer for his Blue Bell Ice Cream! He is now retired but working harder than ever at the age of 80! In the south we always call our elders Miss, Mr., Mrs., etc. It's the only way we know how! ;-)

Linda, that dish is beautiful and the colors look perfect on Karen's granite! I love the way in which you addressed your card to Karen, it sums up what these swaps are about - old friend or new friend, but all dear friends!

Karen, you don't know how good that soup cookbook is looking to us Noreasters, it's been a cold, cold winter. Have fun with your goodies!

Really beautiful plates, you do lovely work. Gratin pans are so nice. And soup is the perfect food. I've made several lately with my new book from Chase. it's the right time of year.

it looks like a delicious bowl of some type of wild rice soup...looks excellent.

i love the gratin dish. i was eyeing one of my mother's last night.

The soup on the front cover of the cookbook is a Wild Rice and Cranberry soup. I'll post the recipe when I have a little more time to type it!

The dishes are just gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! I love dishes with this kind of shape too as you can do so much with them. And what's better then a Soup Cookbook! Love the au Gratin dish! The Brown Sugar Bear has been on my own TODO list for some time now!

Wow, the USPS is very efficient, indeed! I mailed that on Saturday, and Monday wasa postal holiday!

Karen I am so glad the colors work for you, you are a tough nut to crack when doing swap research!

It was all I could do to pack up that cookbook, I wanted so badly to keep it. So I cheated and photo copied several of the recipes before I sent it to Karen! LOL

Thanks for the compliments on the plates, as you can see, my work is improving with practice!

Ann, thanks for working your magic, I was so happy to get Karen as my partner. I am grateful she was there to ease my fears and offer her support during my health stuff, but even more so I am grateful to have made such a wonderful friend. Wonderful package! Soup is truly a comfort food and this cookbook looks like it'll provide many tried and true recipes. What talent you have Linda, those are truly original plates and match Karen's granite beautifully, though I suspect they'll complement anything! Great red dish!

Love the gratin dish...everything looks good in those. You'll like your brown sugar bear...I have one (well, mine's a birdhouse) and it works great.It looks like a good cookbook, too, especially this time of year.

That is Wild Rice Cranberry Soup. It is onew of the recipes I helped myself to before sending the book to Karen! LOL
