wanted: what did you buy for yourself while swap shopping?

While at Marshall's yesterday I ran into a sale on napkin rings. Beautiful red beaded ones boxed in sets of four. Each set was reduced to $3. I bought 3 sets and am thinking about going back and getting several more. :) I love napkin rings, you can never have too many!

Let's see, I also found a nickel plated shower organizer on clearance, DD bought her dad a little valentines gift. At the book store I bought a book by Melinda and Robert Blanchard called "A trip to the beach". Just the thing for a dreary February. Oh - and a magazine called Budget Travel.

So even though not much was bought for my swap partner I had a great time shopping for myself.

Let's see what I bought for myself this past week while swap shopping. I can't tell you 2 of the things because it was one of those buy one for my swap buddy and buy one for me!

A neat frame on sale
An electric manicure/pedicure set
A small planter
A new backdoor rug

I love shopping for my swap partner. LOL!

Wine. I bought a few bottles! I went a little crazy at the Lindts chocolate store as well - Valentine's Day is coming up, you know.

Hi Ya'll, It's here! The swap is tommorrow! Woopee! I'll bet everyone will have more fun than a centipede at a foot tickling party! LOL here too Diane! I fianlly decided on a theme, which was not an easy task, was it Stacy? Stacy was helping me come up with a theme when she was here last weekend. While visiting Meredith's work place I spotted something I really loved but how would I work a theme around "it"? That night I thought of a theme that would be great for "it". Now I'm pumped I have a theme I really love.....so time to get things moving! Found the next item at a favourite store of mine, perfect I love "them"! Mentioned the swap to the owner as I was paying for "them" (actually she said "Oh another swap, where to this time!! LOL) and she says "Oh then, you have to have "these" and I did but I still don't have "it". So when I get back from the cottage I'm going back tho the first place and hope to heaven they still have "it" to put together with "them" and "these". I'm getting there!

A neighbors REAL brass floor lamp...the heavy kind. I walked pass it twice on my morning jaunt. Even discussed it with my walking partner who said I should take it. That afternoon, I took the car back to pick it up, and it was gone. ;( We bought a house, did some renovations, included installing some very nice, brand new, sage green carpeting in the upstairs bedrooms. The next year, we decided to sell. A few days after moving, I drove by our old house and there was all that new carpeting on the street curb! I was so shocked, it didn't occur to me to try to pick it up. What I have rescued: A white picket fence. Yes, you read that correctly. I picked up a pile of white pickets that someone had taken down from their yard. Took it back home and reassembles in my yard. I even made a matching gate. A very large painted Santa Claus Gourd. Really cute, too! Moving boxes. Found a china tea kettle in one, but took it back to the neighbor. In another box, I found my neighbor and friends decoupage wedding plaque.

Thanks for finding that pic, PopMama! I looked thru several pages and if it came up on my search I completely missed it! Liz, what you described at the swap was "more pink," so I hope what you remember is right! Please don't spend all your time looking for your pic, but if you should happen to run into it sometime over winter I would enjoy seeing it! If you don't run into it I will--hopefully--get to see it up-close-and-personal in spring! When that happens I will definitely be taking some of my own pics--however since google catastrophized WebAlbums a month ago I don't know if I'm even able to post links to my pics anymore! You mentioned that one of the Iris I got ['Superstition' and 'Abigail Provides'] was "shorter" than "others"--I think! If you did, was it 'Superstition' that was the shorter one? In the last couple days I got some big (2-3' X 18") patches of the "bad dirt" dug out along the walk by the side of my deck and, saving the more friable soil that was there, I've added a whole buncha home-grown, almost finished, compost to what was left! Have a "decent place" to plant both Iris now and am planning to get them in the ground tomorrow! I also saved some of the "better" natural soil to use when I dig out the potter's clay by the front walk where the peony is going! Will be completely removing the potter's clay, replacing it with my "saved" "better" natural soil, and then adding a WHOLE LOT of compost out there--including some that isn't quite so "almost finished!" Will be transplanting some worms too! I'm gonna make a Good Home for that peony! When I looked up the pics of it, one of the Way Cool things about it was how very different all the pics look--and, remembering you had said how much it "changed" from day to day, I'm really looking forward to seeing a few flowers on that too! Will be surprised if I get any next spring, but, with "good soil," I expect it to be taking off by the following spring! Can hardly wait! I had to water it in when I put it in the pot--my store bought soil is just "moist" when I use it, but, except for watering it in to "settle the soil" when I put it in the ground I'll leave it alone all winter--unless we get an extremely dry winter! Part of my reason for improving the soil in a pretty large area is so I'll know it has good drainage, so if we should get a snowy winter I won't have to worry about it sitting in WET CLAY! Thank you again for bringing such "cool" plants! (Yes, I realize everybody's definition of "cool plants" is different!) to swap! Since I already have so many things, and since people have started to bring things they originally got from me I don't often find many things that I want or don't already have, and this is the first swap in a long time where I was salivating and waiting to "pick!" BUT! I'll have you know that you created quite a "problem" for me!!! With my tiny yard I really did need to do some thinkin' to figure out where to put my new booty! I went shopping in Nanaimo last week with the intention of shopping for my partner, but I ended up buying 6 mini bundt pans and a large star shaped bundt pan for me. BUT, while I was shopping I got the idea for what I am going to buy for my partner. I know they will have what I want in the restaurant supply store in Victoria. I have to pick up a friend at the Victoria airport next week so I'll just go early so I can shop. If they have everything I want I'll be able to mail it the same day. Matt works at a Mail Box Etc. and I'll get him to pack and mail it for me.

Ran into a sale at bookstore--so ended up with Robb's new book in her Eve Dallas series & picked up 2 Fables & Fairy Tales , one for each GGS.

And at Marshall's found a lovely little leaded glass vase/ tinket holder for DDebbie's upcoming birthday.

Well, I certainly bought a lot more for me than I did for my swap partner. I got a VillaWare grill pan(with weighted, grooved lid). Maybe this will work for panini and I won't have to get the Cuisinart Griddler I really want. Or I might wind up with both!
I bought 6 huge (18 & 24" diameter) ceramic flower pots and a double shepherd's crook to hang bird feeders on (got all this for about $70). Also a new pancake turner. Saw a KA bench knife that I wish now that I'd picked up. 8 new ramekins (for MLC) and a tart pan. Lamps for DGD's room with self-adhesive shades for me to cover. Some chocolate candy. That's about enough.

too much but rather not post.

What if you bought things your swap partner already bought for you? That would be disappointing to that person - especially if they went out of the way to get them.

Just a thought.

I almost bought me a new apron....I didn't buy one for either of us though! But I might go back and get the one I wanted. LOL

Aprons! OMG! I never thought of that! I love aprons, and I ruined my favorite in a little bleach incident. OK. I am definitely going shopping Friday for aprons for me!

Well up until last night I was being good and had not bought myself anything while swap shopping. However last night I went to Home Goods and I bought myself 2 pans. I bought a whole set of Tramontina pots 2 years ago from TJ Maxx and Home Goods. Folks on the cookware forum found out this type was not going to be around after that. I was so happy to find a 1.5 QT saucepan and a small frying pan last night. The saucepan I was sorry I had not bought and the fry pan, well... I could not resist.

I also bought a butter bell for my dad's apartment. He doesn't use butter but DH and I really miss our butter bell when we visit. Also it was only $7.99. The I bought a steamer with an extendable center post for easy removal.

I am also eyeing a bench to go in my living room. It has a lift up seat with storage underneath and 2 big pillow on top to discourage me from piling things up on it.
