I used to like snow but now I just can't stand it, at least a lot of it. It gives me the shivers just reading your post. It is awfully pretty when it's coming down. It's just the shoveling, snowblowing, etc. that I can't stand.

Nice that you have a day off to stay home and enjoy it rather than having to be out there slipping and sliding in it.

Stay warm and safe when driving. I lived in New England and Midwest till I was 25 so know all about living with snow. The first major snow is so beautiful, but I hated driving in it. I will take California over any snow covered place. Especially now that I am getting older. Today I was in shirt sleeves pruning my roses and transplanting lettuce.

I don't mind snow, but I hate when it gets super cold.

I spent the day cooking and baking, made Alexa's Eggnog Snickerdoodles, a loaf of Eggnog bread (not a keeper recipe) and a pot of butternut squash soup.

Gotta brave the roads this afternoon, but they should be pretty clear by then.

I was just out filling the bird feeders and there is at least a foot of the fluffy white stuff out there!

Just north of Minneapolis/St Paul MN.

Official snow total in my area was 14-16 inches.

It's really beautiful, but the roads are crappy! Not looking forward to my commute to work tomorrow!

Oh, I was stranded at the airport there during one of those snowstorms...it was a nightmare. Hope you are cozy and don't have to go too far.

I changed planes in Minneapolis once, between NY and L.A., but it was in May, and so there were no delays.

I did notice that the cold weather is going all the way down to Texas, and so it will be cold there when I arrive, probably in the mid 50s, but it will get down to the upper 30s overnight. By the time I leave on Saturday, it should be back to 75, however. I don't have winter clothes readily available, but I think I'll be okay with what I have, and I'll stay inside most of tomorrow anyway. It will just be cold when we go out for dinner. We'll be spending the night with our sister, and she doesn't cook, except for breakfast. I have some wool gloves that I would like to take with me, but I don't know where they are, and so I'm taking my ski gloves.

Lars - I am getting a chuckle out of you thinking the mid 50's is cold. I know it's all relative to where you live.

After a few months of sub-zero temps in Minnesota - I have been known to sit on my deck in a swim suit if it's sunny and 20!

Well, the roads are terrible, even the freeway! My 44 mile commute this morning took me 2 hours and 15 minutes!Ugh!

The ride home was a bit better so I am hoping my tomorrow as it warms up the rest of the "gunk" on the roads will melt and the drive will get back to normal.

If we had 16 inches of snow the entire city would be in a complete panic. The schools would be closed and there would be no bread, eggs or milk in any store. The local tv stations would pre-empt the regular shows to follow the story of the blizzard.

We got 14" in Minnetonka. I heard on the news that some kids in one school district started tweeting (100's of tweets) that their school had closed. Almost had the parents fooled. Snow Day a whole new way!

LOL Pam, 16 inches does not constitute a blizzard here! There were some school closings and late starts and there have been a number of crashes and spin outs.

But today it got up into the upper 30's so the roads are in good shape now.

I would enjoy some cold weather and beautiful snow. I am looking forward to wearing long sleeves. We were at 83 degrees today (don't hate me); you all will get your revenge when it's sweltering here in the summer.

I really must say that I don't know how all of you in snow country cope. I guess it's all a matter of being prepared. Honestly, if there is seven inches of snow here, the schools close. I have to admit that I stay home when we get a lot of snow. I just hated when I had to get to work in the snow. My commute was 13 miles each way, and it was hilly.

After living in Northern Ontario for five years, I do not miss snow at all. It wasn't uncommon to get 40 inches at a time. At least one of those five years I still had snow on the lawn June 1st.

We had a little snow this week, four or five inches. The first snow of the season. And with any luck the only snow of the season. Temperature over the next few days is back in the high 30's low 40's with some rain so the grass should be green again by Christmas.

I actually like the snow. We get maybe 8 or 10 feet of it over a winter, not all at once and we're darned good at moving it. ?Elery's sister lives in Tennessee and they close the schools for an inch or so because they hve no equipment to deal with it and the vehicles can't do that mountainous driving on slick roads. I was told that you can always tell a Michigan girl because we can drive 80 MPH in a blinding snowstorm with zero visibility and not flinch, LOL.

When it's blowing around, though, it's just dumb to go out and drive in it if you don't have to, no matter where you live.

I'm at Elery's right now and it's raining like crazy, no snow here at all. At my place, though, it's snowing and there are 50 MPH winds projected by The Lake, so that's going to be a bit treacherous.

It's not at all unusual to get a foot of snow at a time, but the plows go out and move it and it's not a big deal at all. We don't have multi-lanes of traffic or mountains or other circumstances which make it ugly, we just have snow.

Which is, IMO, a whole lot better than those darned 100f days we had last summer. Now that's ugly, and uncomfortable. I hate the heat, but I like the snow.

I like 72, sunny and no humidity. That happens about five days a year around here. I'd take a snowstorm over drenching humidity any day. The snow is very pretty when you are warm and cozy inside -- and the power stays on!

Pam, you should move to coastal southern California - 72, sunny and no humidity is what our weather is 90% of the time. The other 10% is when it rains and is in the 60s.

When I lived in Austin, if ever there was measurable snow (i.e. minium of 3" drifts), everything would come to a screeching halt, and the schools would close for a week. By the end of the week, the temps could be back in the low 70s, but the schools would still be closed because they had not yet gotten over the shock. I once went to a hairdresser appointment when it was freezing in Austin, and it was very scary, but there was no traffic because there was ice and everyone else stayed home that day. My hairdresser was from London UK and was less phased by the weather. He was the only professional I could find who would give me a punk hair cut at that time in Austin (1986). Other people cut their own hair for that look.

Lars, you are right . I SHOULD live in Southern CA. I have family there and keep threatening to move in with them.
