I was truthfully dreading the holidays...Frank asked what I wanted and I said oh just get me some lounge wear and some pj's.

Told him I didn't need or want any kitchen stuff besides Drew was getting SO much anyway.

Two weeks before Christmas he found a great deal on a elipticle/cross trainer. It was actually marked and rung up for $42.00. How we all know that was a huge mistake but the manager said since it was marked wrong he could have it for $42....I was supposed to be over $300.

Can you say windfall???

So needless to say I was not expecting anything else....well imagine my surprize when I opened a Phillies six pack on Christmas morning!!!

Thats 6 yes 6 Phillies games!!!

I got the Nationals so I can see my Jayson Werth. I also got the Red Sox, Braves and the Padres....Reds and Dodgers too!!!

It works out to about a game every month.

Probably the best gift since he got me Movin Out tix a few years ago!!!

Susie, way to go! I know the holidays are not about gifts but it is nice to be surprised. We said we would go low-key this year. Well, as usual everyone was spoiled more than was reasonable necessary especially me. Before Christmas I bought with Laurie's blessing once she went with me and picked out a ....guess? Yes, a puppy! I've been looking in the paper for lab or golden pups and every place has been farther than I wanted to drive so I just figured it would happen when the time was right and truth be told I was and am still grieving over Duke. Non-animal people probably think that's silly, but hey..he was my baby for almost 14 years. Anyway, I answered an ad that was advertising purebred lab puppies. They had an email address and asked if they could send me pics.He did and mentioned there was somewhat of 'mix up' and they also had mixed Golden/Lab puppies for $150.00 vs $400.00 for the purebred labs. Well, the mixes were cuter! And at that price I had to go look. We picked out the cutest, plumpest little boy pup with the prettiest eyes. To help the situation (Re: If mama ain't happy..nobody happy) Laurie picked the name: Logan

I will post some pics when I start another thread...I think I've already hijacked Susies' at this rate.

Aside from that special gift I bought myself I also got a DeWalt shop-vac, A Springsteen boxed set "The Promise" with over 6 hours of previously unreleased DVD material, Donkey Kong Returns for the Wii, a rack to store my canned food from the summer, a few misc. other things and I couldn't believe it....A Kindle! Told you I was way spoiled. I haven't had a chance to unpack, let alone play with any of my toys with the pup here and it being a holiday week....15 other dogs staying at my house! Yes...16 dogs! Will I be happy 2011 arrives so I can regain my sanity...or the shred that still remains? You betcha!

Frank wants to get a dog soon too....yeah we ave 2 puppers now but they are really mine....Frank wants to get an older rescue dog....then 2 weeks before Christmas the pet broker we used called to say he had rottweiler pups ready to go...but no papers. And get this....$900!!!

Frank wanted to go look so bad but I assured him that these pups were not right fr him and he should stick to his guns and go for a rescue, besides that was a lot of cash for a dog with no papers!!

Thank you everyone! yes Bob & Kylie you are both right...the one is red margined dracaena. Thank you Bob :) thanks Rosepedal :) Shawn, actually mine didn't have the glued rocks..after I repotted into a bigger pot, I put those on, they are aquarium rocks, lol. Since I forgot to buy sand, I figured I'd use those for now..I don't have it touching the base though, they are about 1/2" away. Kylie, yes the one is a schleffera..var umbrella plant..'gold capella'. Glad the red mar drac takes low light. I had wanted a fern or something for low light..of course they didnt have any..so I'm glad I got something for low light, even though I didnt know it, lol. We have a new WM just 5 mins away. They opened in Nov, so they didnt order any gardening stuff..I told them that was dumb..alot of people need supplies over the winter from that dept. I don't like the other WM near me, they have all that stuff but I never go there. Only to buy the Fish Emulsion..they are the only place that has it. Lucy, I have a Lowe's right next to the WM about 15 mins away..I hardly go there though. They are def better than HD! I should try there for the seed starting stuff. My mom checked th WM by her in PA for me, and they didn't have it yet either! Thanks Susan :) lol Brandy..you def are not missing out..Lowe's kicks HD's butt! My luck I'll go to Lowe's and they'll have their stuff all locked up as well, lol. then again..I have that lucky coin now! And since I rcvd it, my camera started working again..so who knows..lol So, I got bored and split them up already. Seems to be a unanimous decision here, and I thank you for it. With you all saying it, I felt better about doing it. O man were those roots intertwined! Took a while to get them all apart, but so far so good..no shock or anything. As much as I liked them in the same pot, I def like them better in their own pots, yet still grouped together. They look better with more space in between them...not too crowded ya know? thanks everyone :) O hey...I still don't know what the one is...the green leaves with the cream var? Hi Elizabeth! Sorry to hear that. I have the same problem. I havent gotten any beer, so yesterday (since it was raining & I couldnt do anything outside) I sat on my back porch cutting up old nursery pots, used the ones that were old and getting brittle or were already broken, and I made collars for all of my brugs as well as my veggies. I put them around the plants today. I started saving the dryer lint, and tomorrow I will start putting that as well as the fur from the dogs inside & around the collars. The collars will prevent the caterpillars from climbing up, and the lint and fur will deter the slugs, they get all caught up and can't slime over it supposedly. Then maybe I'll give em a dose of salt if I find em caught up in the morning, hehehe!! We'll see. Wont be pretty, but hey, gotta do whatchya gotta do. If the slugs manage to still get over the wall, and past the lint & fur, I plan on taking the collars and putting glue around the rim, then dipping in some sharp sand..that should stop them from getting over the edge. Can you tell I have been busy plotting against slugs? lol. Daniella

Not sure how well plastic will drain (it won't, but it may eventually run through cracks in the bed bottoms). I know it's an expense, but if your grass will grow through paper (and cardboard), try landscape fabric. That's what I use. As for the dirt mix, fresh manure needs to be composted to insure that it doesn't burn plants. Also, one source of compost is 4 less than Mel recommends, but use what you've got. Though you may want to try some lasagna techniques to compost in some free coffee grounds from Starbucks (get as much as you can, I'd say two bags per layer of compost plus some shredded newspaper would help. Maybe some grass clippings thrown in for good measure. Sure it's work, but make it gardening fun and your plants will love it. Or better yet, mix it all in your new tumbler and let it do it's thing over a few weeks and then use it in your beds. Peat moss and vermiculate are optional, but recommended. Getting some of both could work, or one or the other. Folks here have had success with all combinations. Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful: Sinfonian's garden adventure!

Lori I thought of you tonight when we had this kick butt dinner that was gluten free. You have to like veggies though! Kale, White bean and Vegetable stew over Polenta YIELD: 4 servings (serving size: 1 3/4 cups) Ingredients 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/2 cup chopped onion (I think I used about double that) 2 (4-ounce) links Italian style chicken sausage, cut into (1/2-inch) slices. You could also use turkey sausage, and I recommend getting the spicy kind for this dish. 1 zucchini, quartered and cut into (1/2-inch) slices (about 2 cups) I added half a green pepper, but it is optional and did add a little more oomph to the flavor (again, if you like green peppers) 3 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed 6 cups chopped trimmed kale (about 1/2 pound) 1/2 cup water (I used vegetable broth, could also use chicken broth) 2 (16-ounce) cans cannellini beans or other white beans, rinsed and drained. (I used butter beans, I love them!) I only used one can 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced fire roasted tomatoes, undrained 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1/4 tsp. italian seasoning and a healthy dash of Mrs. Dash garlic and herb seasoning Preparation Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Saut� onion and sausage 4 minutes or until sausage is browned. Add zucchini and garlic; cook 2 minutes. Add kale and remaining ingredients; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes or until thoroughly heated. (I added about 1 TBLSP tomato paste to thicken the stew) Serve immediately over polenta. Polenta (Get it from Bob's Red Mill, their stuff is usually very fresh) 2 cups water and 1 cup vegetable or chicken broth, or all water 1/4 tsp. salt (use 1/2 if you're using all water) 1 cup polenta 1/4 cup parmesean or romano cheese or fontina cheese 1 1/2 TBLSP butter for frying (that's optional, you can use olive oil or broil polenta instead of frying, or just serve the stew over soft polenta.) Bring the water/broth mix to a boil. Add the salt and stir in the polenta. Stir it as you add it to the pot to keep it from clumping. Turn the pot down to low. Simmer the polenta for at least 15 min., until it is very thick. Add the cheese. Pour the polenta into a large flat pan, well oiled. Let the polenta cool and coagulate in the pan. This will take about 15 min. Can make ahead. Then, cut the polenta into squares and fry in butter until browned on both sides, which should take about 10 min. Can also brush with olive oil and broil the polenta. Serve in flat bowls topped with the stew and a shaving of parmesean cheese. Yummo!

The best gift of the season here was not supposed to be a gift. Younger gal friend had to move due to financial reasons and couldn't take her cat with her. If not other home could be found for Lee-lee then I agreed to take her. So came to be Lee-lee came to live with me and my seven other cats (Annie, Jessy, Yoko, Lulu, Chrissy, Star Trek, and Favorite). Lee-lee turned out to be a most delightful pet. She loves to cuddle and be petted. Her former owner used her as a surrogate baby so Lee-lee expects to be held and rest her head against your chest... purring like a machine when you do as expected. She bonded to me on the ride home and has considered me one of her humans. She likes to spoon when we sleep... she just hopped in bed and snuggled in. Hopefully her former owner does not take her back anytime soon.... she had a panic attack over sending her cat to a new home.

Michael got a new shop vac... old one broke over a year ago so it is being put to use already. Lyra got a black satin Calvin Klein suit... tdf!

A nice check from Mom, eight bottles of wine, a necklace and earring set, a box of candy (which I already gave away), and a bunch of nice things from my #2 son. #1 son sent me a Christmas card. Stinker. Next year he gets the same from me. I don't care about a present, just the thoughtfulness.

Let's see, I got a new coffee pot from Elery, and Ashley bought me gloves and a scarf and a travel mug for coffee, mostly because she has borrowed about three pairs of gloves and not returned them and both of my travel mugs never came back after she used them! Amanda got me a $25 gift card to Tractor Supply, Mother got Elery and I a gift certificate to Schuberg's, the last time she bought me one, we took her to lunch, so I think it'll be a regular gift, LOL. Elery's family draws names and his newest DIL got mine. I had a wish list on Amazon since we don't know each other well, and she bought me a crockpot at Bed, Bath and Beyond. She gave me the gift receipt because she knew I wanted a 6 quart Nesco Roaster and so I traded it in on the Nesco I really wanted. It's in the garage right now, "smoking" before its first use.

It wasn't actually a Christmas present but I consider it one. A new little garden/potting shed, finished in early December. It is 8'x10', square log exterior siding, a tin roof, a recycled door from a friend's mother's old house and 3 recycycled windows, two of which are hinged at the top to open over an 8' potting bench, a copper chandelier that uses candles,(no electricity) and a really old oak kitchen cabinet with the rounded tin bins at the bottom. I didn't want it to look new and I LOVE it! I'm thinking of having a wine and cheese party in the spring, to celebrate, when it get's warm. Obviously it could only be a party place for very small groups, inside. LOL

I also got gift certificates for Books a Million, cold cash (love that shade of green) and other goodies. Way more than I deserved, but best of all, my family was all here except the oldest DD who lives near Nashville and had her children and grandchildren at her house.

Everyone was well and that too is a blessing.

I got a Zo! (more than I expected, since the Subaru Forester I got last month was supposed to be my present). DH said, "I researched it on your forum." First loaf over-rose and collapsed, and I'd followed a recipe/directions from their website. Need to play with the programming if I'm going to bake in it. Liana was thrilled...she's been looking at thrift stores for an old machine that she could use to knead. She happily adopted my antique Hitachi.

Also got a fancy corer, a necklace the kid found on Etsy, and a doodad to hang in my window that she actually made herself (she's never been interested in crafty stuff...this is a milestone). Oh, and several bottles of wine, lots of incredible baked goods and even some orange marmalade and huckleberry jam, which was lovely since I gave all mine away.
