A new nursery opened this month where the old Cottage Creek Nursery was on Avondale Rd W'ville/Redmond area. It's called The Gardens at Cottage Creek. The old Cottage Creek was well known for it's roses. This one has quite an extensive collection of roses too, but I didn't have time to browse through there. I also noted quite a few dahlias potted up. Another one I like going to is about a mile south of there also on Avondale Rd. It is Classic Nursery, they have a good selection of shade/native plants. If you look at the independent nursery map at the link above for these locations they would be just south of the one marked #60(Bassett). Another good one for trees is Olympic Nursery. This would be located between #59 (Enchanted)& #64 (Molbaks) on the map. Olympic is well respected for their trees & shrubs. The do not carry many perennials, but what they do have is usually cheaper than Molbaks. OK-I spend way too much money around here.

Joann: Thank you for the design and all of the example pics. You and your DH are really very talented. Did either or you ever do this work professionally or is it a hobby? Thank you for highlighting all of the architectural details. That is exactly what I need to see. DH and I were debating about this glass as the side panels are quite narrow so your pics are very helpful to visualize the whole effect. I should mention here that this is not a fully custom shop. We basically get to pick different door/cabinet styles, wood species/stain/hardware, height/width, drawers and component configuration so I may not be able to order some of the lovely design details you incorporated, though I will bring in the pics and inquire about it on Sat. I did notice the bottom doors on the console are not full overly which it looks like you designed for the sides. I'm going to guess my top option will not be full overlay so we'll see. Also, my hinges are not the euro style on bottom and stick out the sides. Wouldn't they need to match? As the TV is 50" wide, I was thinking of having the center opening be 51". Then in the vertical direction with the TV height at 31" I was thinking we should add a bit of beathing room--say about 3" extra on top so the TV box would then be 51"W x 34"H. I think I'll check the TV specs to see any ventillation requirements, though I know DH wants some holes in the back for cables, etc. I notice hoosiergirl's TV is very tightly set into the built-in. I'll let you know what they come up with when we go in over the weekend.

First, what ever you store them in needs to be archival material - aka acid free. If you contact art supply or museum supply stores (see link below for an example. Also has some very good advice). In general you want to keep the books out of sunlight, water, and bugs. I have my children's books on my shelves, I don't want to stash them away unseen. However, they are away from windows, and are covered in Brodart plastic (archival acid free covers, found in many rare bookstores or comic book stores) Here is a link that might be useful: the container store

The difference between a PB and a QP is the quality of the paper that it is printed on. A PB is printed on lower quality pulp paper that has a high acid content. A QP is printed on better quality paper and is usually a larger format. A QP is much the same as a soft covered "hardback" book. The genres of science fiction,mystery, and romance have, traditionally, been printed on pulp paper. They were marketed in the less expensive venues of spinners in retail stores and drug stores and were purchased as cheap reads with people buying the next one in the series as it came out in quick order, thus earning a reputation as being formula fiction. That does not mean that there are not some outstanding authors being published. Some mystery authors seem to have a following, and science fiction has a large audience. Judging from who it was that stood, transfixed, in the aisle of the SF, it seems to be largely males. Not always, of course. The larger "art" books in that genre were always graced with front covers of scantily clad, large breasted females. Romance novels attracted the women, obviously. And, then there was the "anime" that had young teens, largely female, entranced and sitting on the floor with books in hand. All of this "genre fiction" was kept in proximity to each other because of the format of most of it. The PBs in the book store were so numerous and sold in such mass quantities that they had to be back stacked on the shelves. That meant running a row of spine out books on the outer edge and the excess was in layered stacks behind that row. People came in and purchased them by the dozens. That is not the same situation with those other works of fiction that are classified under the genre of "literature". Most of those were QP and CL (cloth) format and they are not in series. By, and because of, these convoluted factors these books came to be cheap reads that are printed on cheap paper and meant to be consumed in mass quantities. I spent years working in a book store and observing what went on the shelf and who bought it. Just because it is pulp fiction does not mean that there are no outstanding authors. It does not mean that you cannot store them under the bed, on the stairs, in stacks on the floor of the basement, in large containers or boxes, or where ever you wish. If that is your thing. Be aware that they have no value beyond your own reading pleasure. They are, quite literally, almost a dollar a dozen at most book sales.
