My father called me on Sunday to check on me and to warn me about the oncoming rain. I'm in a very good place now with regards to heavy rain and floods, as I am on the highest ground around me, and all rain drains away from my house. It was different in Venice - I was in a tsunami zone there, and while we didn't have tsunamis, the back yard was bad about flooding, since I was close to the canals and also close to Marina Beach.

I think we are only supposed to have a couple of dry days and then rain again on Saturday evening or Sunday. Some of the others live in areas that may be more prone to mud slides, particularly Ellen, I think.

Thanks Annie! It was an 'eh' storm, typical for this season, we just aren't used to anything other than sun and more sun LOL. Yup Laguna got hit, and they have lots of houses perched on hillsides above the canyons.

My only gripe is that we missed seeing the lunar eclipse....and my DH, being helpful, 'here honey let me bring in the two bags of groceries from your van so you don't get wet from the rain'....pushed the 'open power door' button instead of 'lock'. Four hours later - soaked car which can't be left open to dry out :-(

I wish I was in Hawaii right about now!

And I so appreciate not having to wear closed shoes most of the time.

Thanks for checking on us things are fine over here too. Our area has a few downed oak trees, but nothing much in the bigger picture. According to the backyard rain gauge we received about 5 inches of rain between Tuesday night and Weds night. We're damp around the edges, ticked about missing the eclipse, but all in all we're just fine!

Being fairly familiar with the lay of the land in SOCAL, I kept tabs on CF members via our new map. So good to hear that you are okay. Still a few we need to worry about, hope they are also okay.

I saw the pictures on the news tonight. How very sad for those who were affected. One house had mud almost up to the ceiling.

Jessy, hope your car doesn't get moldy. Can you run the AC to dry it out?

We are Ok well the creek outside my bedroom window sounded like Niagara Falls for a few days. I didnâÂÂt sleep much, but itâÂÂs gone down to about half of what it was Sunday night. We had almost 10 inches of rain the river almost took over the park running at 2400CFS at one point and the lake went up about 7 feet.

Sunday and Monday we had no way to get out of the valley and the canyon will be closed for they say 10 days. All 30 or so miles of the canyon is filled with rocks the size of cars and Caltrans is afraid to go in at this point. I donâÂÂt blame them. Thank goodness DH retired and doesnâÂÂt have to drive it anymore.

If we want to put on chains we can go to Bakersfield over Greenhorn Mountain or we can go the back way thatâÂÂs about 2 ý hours one way. We are staying put I canâÂÂt think of a thing we need that bad. We wonâÂÂt be going down to DD house for Christmas as another storm is coming in Saturday night. Part of the main road in Lake Isabella, well the only road, is washed out so going to my dadâÂÂs is a 5 mile detour but at least we can get to him.

Hi Annie,

Despite rain gutters, a drain in the yard on the north side of the house & a sump pump, we had 2 inches of rain in the basement Wednesday afternoon when the heavens opened. Fortunately, that was the worst & the sump pump finally shut off about 9:30 last night. Sigh.

Compared to San Bernardino County to the east & Orange County to the southeast where Laguna Beach is, our problems are minor. Lots of mud slides & flash flooding in those areas. It all could have been much worse here.

Pam, we ran an extension cord out to my car, fed it in through the window and ran a space heater. That helped.

The`biggest`problem for our area is that the fires left the hill areas in bad shape for all the water that we're getting. Mudslides galore.

jessica, i hope you have the vehicle all dried out now, and I'm glad to hear that everyone is safe and sound and that Gina is not taking up mud wrestling as a hobby, but may have gotten a ticket to Hawaii by now. (grin)

Fine here, but the dishwasher and dryer decided to break on Christmas Eve. Today I finally had the repairman in for the dryer. He replaced the thermostat and left. It still wasn't drying properly... seemed to be steaming instead. I went outside and found the dryer vent flooded! No wonder. Other than that, we're fine. Another dump of rain today.

Just now checking in. Glad to know that you guys are safe and sound! The news makes me crazy thinking of all our friends around the world.

Now, if it would just stop raining here we may have a fun New Years! We are built to withstand alot of rain...the outside trash can now has about 12 inches of rain in it...~sigh~

We are safe and sound we did have a window of opportunity on Tuesday so we went to Bakersfield. Took the 2 � hour drive up over the high mountains. It was beautiful up in the redwoods with snow. The road was cleared and boy if it wasn�t so cold you would have thought it was spring going down the other side even the oil fields were green. Came home through Tehachapi, Mojave and up over Walker Pass. Long drive but we were getting cabin fever and needed to order some window blinds make a Costco run and really didn�t have much we could do here it�s just too cold to go outside.

It rained all day Wednesday tried to snow a few times and rain and snow is in our forecast for the next week. It is just crazy cold, tonight�s low is 21, well at least for Ca. Of the 4 roads out of the valley 2 are closed with wash outs and rock slides and the other 2 may require chains. We are now over 12" of rain and more on the way. My dad had snow on the other side of the lake but non here yet. The strangest thing so far is we had a wild turkey in the front yard yesterday. We always have raccoon, deer, coyotes sometimes mountain lions and bears but turkeys is a first.

I see on the news that you all east of us are getting blasted with snow and ice. I hope you are all safe and staying warm. Have a Happy and safe New Years

Right now it's 39 here, supposed to be near 50 tomorrow. And we had an earthquake. Yeah, 4.2 earthquake. Actually, Indiana had an earthquake and people felt it as far north as Grand Rapids, about 50 miles south of me. Elery is in southern Michigan and he got shaken up a bit, LOL.

So I think we're getting California's weather and Claudia, you're getting ours. You can have the turkeys, though, we've got a zillion of the darned things, I even hit one with the Jeep and had to have the windshield replaced.

Oh, and you can keep the earthquakes too, LOL, we don't need those, we have tornadoes!

I will keep the earthquakes and you can have the tornadoes. I�ve lived through four big ones in my life and I don�t want to ever see a tornado or anything over a few inches of snow in my front yard. About twenty year ago we had 8" of snow that stuck for a week and the world just stopped here in the valley. Way back when I was a little girl we had about 5" of snow in Burbank can you imagine the freeways in L.A. with a few inches of snow. High temperature for tomorrow is 34.
