You are the boss, you set the schedule. Just because she doesn't like it, doesn't mean that you're going to change the rules.

You said it in your title...she's a puppy. Just think 2 year old toddler everytime you look at her and don't forget the age difference between her and you.
Just because she's a tiny thing, not a lab, doesn't mean she's mature. She's a baby and needs LOTS of attention and exercise.
She will out grow this...been there done that.

So....right now she's sleeping again....should I wake her and throw the ball or something? and what to do when she is wild off the wall as only a poodle puppy can be?
And of course there was a little guilt because I went out....

Is she supposed to be sleeping? Yeah, sometimes you wake them up to try to tire them out. Or let them cool their heels when they really aren't sleepy. As food the food, put it down at about the same time (at this age, three meals a day), let her eat it or stare at it or ignore it, for 10 minutes. Then take it away. Next meal, fresh food, same thing. She'll earn to eat when the food is offered or she'll go hungry!

Do you have an outside place she can run around? While you watch? Running off some of the energy would be best but most pups want company.

Nope....I have a big yard but unfenced.....she has to be on a leash until she is "reliable".
I had a friend stop over at 5 today....stayed about an hour and a half...Latte got distracted and didn't eat....maybe a bit...possibly a tablespoon.
Should I pick it up and not feed her until morning??? She weighs about 2 1/2 pounds....and she runs around like a maniac....and I want to be sure she has enough food to grow!

She won't die of starvation in a few hours. She will be a picky eater forever unless she learns to eat when it's there.

Think about getting a couple of portable fences that we call ex pens (for "exercise"). Just get two of the short ones, and use hardware clips to clip together. (I linked to a cheap one, but you can get them at most feed/supply stores, I like a better quality one). Two of them would make a nice playpen for a small puppy. I've also seen plastic modular play pens at Walmart.

She just gets absolutely wild about 7:30 PM...Running around the kitchen like a maniac....the rest of the time she's just a sweet puppy...energetic but not manic. I think she is settling down now with a chew.

Latte (Poodle) is a cousin to Luigi and Bijou (Bichons). Apparently, these breeds do something called a blitz, where they run around like a little maniacs, from one end of the house to the other--if you have two of them, they chase one another during the blitzing, but sometimes, just one of them will blitz. (They also do the Bichon wave.)

Sounds like Latte is a normal puppy... ahhh, puppies! they eat, they run & play, they sleep, they run & play, they poop, they run & play--oh, and they chew too!

When Luigi and I spent the summer out of state, I had a portable, modular fence set up outside the back door since the townhouse didn't have any fenced areas--very similar fence to the link sushipup posted. Worked out great. I had the fencing shipped back to me and now we use it in a number of ways around our garden area.

I really can't see her doing anything one of those things but eating sticks and leaves.
I kept taking her out last night, but there were owls and even with hr right near me I was spooked. I have seen an owl swoop down just feet in front of me and grab a bird.

I didn't realize how small she is...she can run inside just as well and it's safe.
I would indeed be concerned about birds, I watch my two dogs when I see vultures overhead and they are around 15 and 19 pounds.

vultures won't eat your 16 pound puppy....they can't "take" something....they have walking feet not grabbing feet....but an owl or a hawk sure would take a 2 1/2 pound puppy.

What a little cutie. I know she will bring you loads of fun and happiness. Just look at her antics and laugh. With the good food you provide, I'm sure she's eating enough to grow and thrive.

I'll be watching for more pictures of her. Keep us posted, please.

I didn't realize about the "swoop and grab" factor! You're right to keep her very close when outside, maybe even consider keeping her on a leash? ...if I was going to use modular fencing, I'd put some shade cloth over it and tie that down to avoid the swoop/grab/carry off factor esp since she's always going to be a tiny girl. You're a good momma, Linda!

Well my pups do the blitz at least once a day...usually after supper.
They are big enough that I no longer worry about owls or hawks (they are both around 10lbs now)so they go outside to run.
I am so glad I got 2 of them because they do entertain each other as well as my back neighbor who has 3 dogs of her own we unlock the back gate and have a puppy play date.

Maybe Latte needs a sibling??

She's crazy. I have a dog bed, I took the cover off and washed it up and put it in the far end of the kitchen. she pulled and dragged it to the other end of the kitchen where her kennel is.
She now has all her toys AND the bed in one area of the kitchen.
2 like this would run me out of my house!

This "gathering" behavior has me laughing. Chabby would drop her toys in one spot....but this dog goes and fetches her toys to have them all together.

LOL, I think it's a poodle trait. We easily taught Brockley to keep all his toys near his bed and Ollie just does it naturally. He knows what's his and what isn't. If we take his collar off he watches it and doesn't take his eyes off it until it's back on his neck. All his toys, except the really big stuffed puppy he sleeps with on his bed, are kept in a wood box next to his bed.

Think how lucky you are - you won't trip on scattered toys.

I'm going to love watching Latte grow up.

Just think, LindaC, you could teach her to pick up her own toys! I taught WonderWeiner, I'd just tell him to pick up his toys and put them in his toybox and he'd gather them up and put them there.

If she's already "hoarding" toys, it should be a lot easier, LOL.

Ashley's fiancee has a GoldenDoodle, I'm sure I don't know why, but he's allergic to dogs and someone convinced him it was hypoallergenic. Anyway, if Buster comes to the house to play with Cooper he picks up all of Cooper's toys and chewies and puts them into his own kennel, a canine kleptomaniac! So maybe that IS a poodle trait.

Canine Klepto - I love it! But it must be the Golden in him, DARFC from the Golden owners on the CF. Ollie does not steal, although I have seen him BORROW a toy.

Oh So Funny! You know, I taught Luna to put her toys away too, and her Golden sister before her was very good at it. My favorite memory though, is when they shared their toys with each other. They love when you give them something to do, don't they?

She sounds like she likes to be organized, and keep track of her things. I remember my dog would gather her ''stuff'' and lay it around herself in a crescent moon, so she would be the planet for her stuff's (virtual) orbit. If Latte's gathering hers, the good news is you won't be tripping over it!

We had a visit last night from 2 King Charles Cavaliers. One of them still a puppy, just under a year. What a difference in dog personalities! Latte wanted in the worst way to play chase, and they wanted to play sit and chew...Cooper, the puppy just growled once at her, but Latte nipped at ear, pounced on ran around like crazy. Cooper the pup, cowered and tried to hoard all the chews, Romo the 2 year old just wagged his tail and tolerated the stupid puppy....but when they left, Cooper tried to get out the door with 3 rawhide chews!

What I like about your stories of Latte is how much life she's brought to your house. Keep sharing please; we all like hearing about her!

I had a friend stop over this afternoon before a meeting with a container of a soup we had talked about...she couldn't stop laughing. Just stood there and laughed!

I'm so enjoying the updates on BP. Hey BP wreaked havoc too, you know...in the Gulf. Maybe there's a nickname in her future.

LOL!! Yeah....she's BP alright...she was sleeping my lap this afternoon sweet as can be....and we had a manic session this evening...nip bite run like mad.
She runs from being my sweet Latte to being a triple shot of expresso!!
