That storm sounds like a good excuse to hide under the covers!! (aka "hunker down")

Flying Pumpkins!! LOL Reminds me of "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes". Annie, Please go tie down all your loose pumpkins before someone gets hurt!!

May, that was exactly what I was thinking, "Attack of the Killer Pumpkins" or some variation on "Twister" when the cow goes flying past, LOLOL.

She's never gonna live THAT statement down! OK, now for some reason I can add a link and I couldn't before...

I don't mean to sound flippant, I know there are tens of thousands without power and damage to homes, but finishing up that story with the line about the flying pumpkins just cracked me up.

Actually, from what I've heard this storm is atypical and not at all what one normally expects this time of the year in the Great Lake region.

It is a pattern that has not been seen in many years and is similar to the one that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The skies are taking on a strange hue here and we are hundreds of miles form the current activity. I'd be taking it serious, it's a beaut!

It's blowing like mad outside. And although I have not witnessed any airborn jack-o-lanterns as yet, I keep hearing thuds from my porch. I can see pots overturned and even see a broken piece of pottery out there, but I ain't hobbling out there to try to save anything. I have fallen down enough in the past couple of days. Tim will have to be on clean up detail when he gets home.

My dogs won't even think about going outside! It's amazing how long they can "hold it"! LOL

Looks like we may get some firewood out of this storm!

Chase, you're right, this is not a typical storm for October, but at least it's not 20 below zero so when we DO lose power, we won't freeze or have an ice storm. The downside is that it isn't cold enough to put everything in the freezer outside into the snow.

I went home at lunch and put flower pots and deck chairs in the garage or the neighbors would have some extra furniture. Cooper wouldn't go outside without me either, he was afraid of the wind flapping the edges of the pool cover, which will probably also blow over to the neighbors. They just put a 8 foot privacy fence between us because they installed a backyard hot tub, so now if the wind is right everything ends up plastered against that fence.

I do hope Peppi and LC46 have all their outside furniture inside!

Well....we are on the edge here....still lots of wind...but my pumpkins are still on the front steps!!

Annie, we had the same storm and moved things last night.

One tornado in Peotone destroyed a farm and one women, while driving, was hit by a large tree branch that impaled her midsection. After extracting her, she had surgery and is doing well, thank heavens. Her DH said she was laughing about it and wants to turn the tree limb into some kind of art project for her students. Once co-worker had a larger branch hit his house and punch a hole in his new roof into the master bedroom.

Me? Nothing, nada and happy about it.

It was a serious story and a big storm, but finishing up with the line about the pumpkins just tickled me, for some reason.

Still not as good as the woman impaled with the tree branch that wants to make an art project, now there's a woman I'm sure I'd like, she has that cockeyed perspective I enjoy so much.

Your co-worker did have insurance (I hope)? It would sure be a lousy way to wake up...

These storms are headed my way for tomorrow.

But if you want to see some flying pumpkins, check out the event that takes place almost in my backyard every fall! It started out with just a few guys trying to see who could throw a pumpkin the longest distance and then just got bigger every year!

We dodge pretty much all of it yesterday. When one weather channel said that it was potentially a storm of historic proportions...well...that statement sure got my attention...but a short bout of heavy rain and a few wind gusts...but nothing major and that was it. Can't say I'm disappointed...but the news really knows how to attract attention (read: ratings)!

Thanks, Kat, now I know what to do with my jack o lanterns after Halloween. All this time, I've just been chopping them up and feeding them to the livestock!

Yes, Duane, the weather people do get excitable. We did have some pretty strong wind and it's still blowing, but I think that's because I'm so close to The Lake. There were a few tornadoes, some property damage, bunch of power outages but nothing really all that unusually destructive.

The meteorogists are still going nuts, says it's one of the top five lowest pressure systems in the mainland US and so it sure has their attention! Our warning lasts until 8 pm tonight and winds are still about 30 MPH sustained here so I'm still hopeful that I might end up with some much nicer lawn furniture from someone west of me, LOL. Or maybe their jack o lanterns!

The meteorologists here proclaimed that if this storm was at sea, without the "friction" (trees, buildings, etc.) it would equal a cat.3 hurricane.

I did think the windows were going to blow out last night, and no matter how good our insulation is we could feel a breeze indoors! LOL

No major damage, a few trees down and some broken accessories on the front porch that probably should have been put away by now anyway.

Glad everyone came through it unscathed.

It's still blowin' like mad here. The power has gone off a few times but luckily come back on in a few seconds. Still getting 50 MPH gusts.

Nancy, Elery tells me that 94,000 customers are still without power, there were 250,000 to begin with.

It's still blowing here too, maybe 30 MPH, but it's calming down. Cold and rainy too, in the 30s.

The Ludington newspaper got some awesome Lake photos, though, and the surfers were all out yesterday.

Hope we don't get high winds here in NE PA! It doesn't seem to be predicted and I wonder why not. Will the storm blow intself out when it hits the Appalachian Mountains? We usually get MI weather one to two days later. But I don't see high winds predicted here. But weather reports here seem to be notoriously unreliable. Mountains tend to confuse air masses.
