Name game

I need some good ideas from you all, the most creative bunch I know!

It looks like we are getting a puppy tomorrow, one to grow up and show. His mom is Sushi's sister.

The "theme" of the litter is the word Bet, which must appear in the registered name. I have trouble with names that are verb phrases, like "Place your Bet", and I prefer real nouns. Bet can be used in a pun or ever embedded in another word. This puppy will be in the show ring when he grows up, so the name has to be a really good one. And I like call names that relate in some way to the registered name.

A couple of ones:

Maximum Bet, called Max, which is a very common, non-oomphy dog name, if you know what I mean.

The one I like is Shore Bet, called Jersey. I have seen a number of females called Jersey, fewer males. And I wonder about using a pop reference that well may be really passe (or even negative) in a few years. (Like the person who named a dog Kobe, just as the basketball player was being accused of rape.)

Any ideas?

How fun! I'm usually doing boat names. For instance, the tender/dinghy we tow behind our boat became, "Little Tender Behind". :)

Well as one who just named a chocolate poodle Creme de Chocolate....call name Latte...I may be all betted out! LOL!
How about BET Jazzy Rapper? BET referring to Black Entertainment Television....call name Rapper.....maybe not a name for a golden!
How about Bet2Win....call name Winnie...or presumptiously winner.

Seysonn: A dried Poblano is an Ancho. A dried Chilaca is a Pasilla. Depending on region, many markets(at least here in Socal) call Poblanos and Anchos by Pasilla. Very easy to tell the difference=== just go to many of the many pepper I.D. sites, research both, and pics will show you. As far as the Guajillo, it was ottowapepper's pics of his Mirasol hybrid that made me question whether a Guajillo is a dried Mirasol. Through Bill's pics and description of taste and willard3's expertise in being the Rick Bayless of GW(visiting the markets of Mexico), that info that I've read many places is bogus.=== In other words, after all this, my research tells me that a Guajillo is a Guajillo, dried or fresh. NECM: That seems like a lot of work--- go for it! :P Funny you posted the Guajillo's correlation with Cascabel. On PBS, there's a show called Pati's Mexican Table --- I've seen her mention that Cascabel is a good sub for Guajillos. I'm not buying it(NOW). And since I grow Guajillos and can find them readily in my stores, I'll keep using Guajillos for Guajillos. Kevin

I love those wonderful little spiny spiders! That one's the spiny orb weaver. We called the next one Banana spider back in south carolina. Those fur bracelets give me the eebie jeebies! She's the golden silk spider. Don't know about the next one, eating the caterpillar for lunch! But the last one is the daring jumping spider.

I know, that's an obscure reference. But I'm an old movie buff. Mr. Skeffington is a really good Bette Davis flick, see it if you haven't already.

Linda, I think I was one of the first to suggest "Latte"! How is the housetraining going? Is she sleeping thru the night?

One of my other names, that I want to use as a call name, is Kesey. So I am thinking about "Bet On The Prankster". It works better than using Merry Prankster. And I still like Shore Bet, "Jersey". It might depend on personality of the pup. The bad pup is Kesey, a more laid-back pup is Jersey, don't you think?

Laura is still looking for a name for her girl. The grandmother is "All or Nothing" and the mom is "Roll of the Dice". And we all enjoy going to a nice resort/hotel/casino and playing penny sots (Yeah, high rollers! NOT!). She is still struggling. The standby game is a Cleopatra, but Laura says that reminds her of the awful Miss Cleo psychic ads from a few years ago. I told her that the hot slot now is "Sex and The City"---how to mix "Bet" with that? Call names are obvious. ;-O

How about "Alphabet"? (Don't all dogs want to be the Alpha?)

You could call him that, or "Alpha" or "Alph."

If you call him "Alph," he can say his own name.

I know you didn't want a pop reference, but for "You Betcha", the first call name that popped into my mind was Sarah (as in Sarah Palin). I just can't hear that phrase anymore without thinking of her.

How Fun!!

My darling Apollo had to carry the name redbud...not too lady like no??
So he is Apollo's Redbud Moonbeams....just Apollo to us!!

So for your furballs how about AlphaBet Soup...call name Alpha or Soupy.

I was also thinking "A fair Bet" which would play off using Fair and Bet...call name Bette and Fairy.

Having a brain fart...I'll keep thinkin!!
