I'm going to be a Nana!!!!

Chris and his wife Amity are expecting in early March! I really never thought they would have a family. Meredith is thrilled that the heats off her!

We were going to take the T Bird down to Florida this year but I told Clive we will need the van for all the shopping I intend to do! LOL

Can't wait to share in the joy that so many of my CF friends have shared here.

Oh, congratulations! It's hard to believe either of your children is old enough to be starting a family, but I guess time passes even when we're not paying attention :-)

We also had a very long cold and wet Spring. The weather has just started to warm up in the last coupld of weeks. Things are starting to bloom now. Love this time of year. Just wish it would last longer.

funkycamper, thank you so much for the feedback! I did actually consider putting the refrigerator where the beverage center will be, and there were a couple of reasons I decided against it... The first is that the space is only 69" long, so there isn't enough space for the 48" built in refrigerator plus the pantries, so I'd still have to have some of the pantry space be over where we have it shown. One of the reasons we are getting rid of the pantry that is there now is that it's pretty annoying having the pantry space split across the kitchen like that, I frequently find myself running back and forth from one to the other. Plus, if there is something I need from the other pantry I would have to go over to that side anyway, so it would seem to be more convenient to have the pantries and fridge together so I only have to go to one area to get the food. The second reason is that currently we have a regular depth refrigerator in that space and the opening to the dining room is 2 ft 5 in. We are widening the doorway to 4 ft and putting in a built-in (therefore counter depth) refrigerator, so I figured that would keep the refrigerator doors from blocking the doorway when they are open. Although I do love the idea of getting as big windows into the space as we can, the reason we have the upper making that turn is that we are going to have an appliance garage under it to put my food processor, blender, and stand mixer. I didn't want them to be too far from the range since I will likely be using them either right before or right after things come off the stove/out of the oven.

I Finally did it! My First Rose Seedlings!

In the FWIW department, a couple of years ago, I raised more than 60 seedlings from hips I rescued from a public garden (and a few other roses), and they stayed outside the whole time during a polar vortex winter (planted out after Thanksgiving 2014 with seedlings starting to show up in Jan/Feb 2015). I used my regular potting mix (compost, peat moss, plant-tone and sand), but I used extra sand (just regular all-purpose sand from Lowe's, not builder's sand, which is best for rooting cuttings). The sand promotes drainage, so no issues with damping off. No heat mats, no peroxide, no fungicides. By mid-February I had about 40 seedlings, but others showed up later on. My husband built what we call the squirrel cage (keeps the varmints out, not in) from hardware cloth and piping, and the seedlings stayed protected until they started to outgrow their shared pots and needed their own pots. I think the cage was covered with a tarp when we had freezes, but they didn't go inside or even onto the back porch. Once they achieved some size they were moved to a sheltered place on the ground under a large oak. Dappled shade evidently was sufficient light. More than 60 seedlings was too many, so I let most die through a tough love/attrition process, so theoretically, the surviving 15-20 roses are the toughest of the tough. This color is a nice neutral and I like the white trim that make the details of this room pop. Before deciding on the pieces, I would think more about the configuration of the room. I love that you are not putting a TV in here and will use it for reading instead. I suggest making a sitting area near the back windows because it lets in so much natural light. It will be a perfect place to read during the day without having to depend on lamps as much. And, it creates its own space that does not depend on the red or sea foam color influence. For a back of the room reading area, I would: 1. Define the space with a rug. I'd go for something neutral that blends more with the room instead of using the rugs you chose that are such an intense contrast. What about jute with a dark grey binding for texture, or a trellis pattern but not as contrasting as the navy and white you chose? 2. Get an upholstered cushion made for the built in bench under the window. Such a great reading nook, looks maybe big enough for two to snuggle and read! Nice soft window treatment, and maybe sconces or art hung on either side of the window. Toss your current sofa pillows over there to start to give you an idea of that as soft hang out space. 3. I like the idea of putting the sofa in front of the window with a coffee table in the middle and two grey Pottery Barn chairs across from it, facing the sofa. The only problem is that your sofa is pretty high in the back and I don't know how it would look to have it cutting off the bottom of the windows. It is free to move around furniture so give it a try! 4. Going with more neutral colors - tan, grey, beige, maybe a hint of navy and pops of rust means you should throw in some texture to the equation. That can come from a jute rug, fluffy blankets, and shiny objects. (Mercury glass objects?) Plus maybe a coffee table that has some texture of reflective quality. Here are some ideas for the back reading space: Rute rug, gray border Patterned rugs that have grey and other colors Examples of living room window seats: For the middle and front space, I have a few different ideas, but would like to hear more about what you need as a function of this room. Do you have any furniture you own and are looking for a different space to house it in? Do you need more storage for any particular kind of item? (Boots, purses, backpacks?) Do you have a home office or need space for that kind of work?

I truly am so excited with the news. It's going to be a ton of fun having a "Grand" to spoil rotten and then send home.

I've already been giving Chris digs about how he might approach homework and school assignments! What goes around, comes around!!!

They will be fabulous parents....of that I am sure.

My only wish now is for healthy Mom and baby....the rest is icing.

I know I am going to be a very silly person shopping this winter in Florida.....you are right Annie, I will likely need a tag along trailer.!!

As far as Himself goes....he says he's too young to be a Granddad! Wrong!

That's great news, Sharon. I remember when I first learned I was going to be a grandma, I thought I was too young, so I understand how Himself feels. That being said, you guys are going to rock as grandparents. Congratulations!

Pam, before the grands, I swore that if I had any they would call me Cathy. What a surprise to me that I couldn't have cared less what they called me as long as they did...call me that is. On his own, Beau called me Grammy so that is what I love to be called.

I went back and read Chase's original post and it looks like she will be called Nana. That's cute. Sometimes those nicknames just evolve on their own. If I had grands, I would ask them to call me Gram since it sounds like my name.

So wonderful to hear congrats from so many people that I truly have enjoyed the virtual , and real , company of over all these years. It's been a long time since we all started hangin' out here on the CF........I miss those days.

Yes I will be Nana. I think it's a British tradition. Both my Grandmothers were called Nana and my Mom was called Nana.....can't imagine any other name.

Himself will be called Grandad.....and it suits him....the sophisticated devil he is LOL

Thanks again....it is so much fun planning the spoiling. Aunt Meredith is over the moon too! She is also happy to have a bit of a breathing room...but it won't last long!!! LOL

PS: And to make you all feel really old Sara started University this September

Congrats! Being GaMa for me is the best part of my recent life. Picking out the traits I've seen from his mom and dad and occasionally being told "Mom that is all from YOU".

When you are doing all that shopping don't forget BOOKS! And if able do the old trick of reading them and recording -- that way since you will not be there all the time the little one will know your voice.

My daughter is here and Jacob knows me but he also knows my voice on the phone and my daughter has picture icons enabled to call -- so he will get her phone and click on my picture to call and "talk" which is just now starting to be baby babble and response to my speaking.

Best of all it the spontaneous hugs and when he stops playing to turn and smile! You are going to LOVE that!

Speaking of getting hugs...I bought a pad of receipts. When I give Beau a snack or meal, I write a receipt and list the food then a $ amount and 2 Hugs and 1 Kiss. When he leaves the table, I hand him the receipt and ask "will that be cash or kisses?". Works every time!

I'm called Nana, too, because I loved my own Nana very much.
As everyone else has said, there's nothing like grandchildren. You will have so much fun.

Sharon, Sara is starting University? It can't be, she was just 12 yesterday, wasn't she? (sigh)

Enjoy that new little one, they don't stay little for long, as you can see by watching the Monkey Princess and her Brother and now Mad Lizzie and the Littlest Princess.

Nana suits you, and it'll be fun to hear all the changes as that little one speaks more and more.

Congtratulations! Grands are so much fun, and the hugs, kisses and snuggles are wonderful.

To Damien, we are Granny & Papa, to Manny & Melo, we are usually Grandma & Grandpa. To little Arriana, we are Baccia (Bachie is the closest pronunciation) and Dzia Dzia (ZaZa) Grandma and Grandpa in Polish. It's hard to believe Arriana is 8 months old already!

Just seeing this post, Sharon....A big CONGRATULATIONS to you! Your life will never be the same!

I just spent 8 days with Julia (now 2 years old). We had a blast! They left this morning, and I miss her already!

Do they plan on finding out the gender beforehand? Neither of my kids did, thy both wanted to be "surprised".

Yes it is amazingly exciting...although the kids have already gone a little "weird". Amazing what they know about parenting in 4 short months! LOL

They have decide not to know the gender, if at all possible......they want the surprise. So do I, except I'll be in Florida Jan , Feb and March and not knowing which sex I'm shopping for...and I will be shopping....will be tough past new born. Somehow , Ill manage! LOL
