Crohn's and table saws...

It's not been a good time for our guys lately. Liana's fiance has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease. What a rough road they have. They have not been impressed with the specialists (we'll try this drug, and if that doesn't work, we'll try this one). The end result seems to be damage to liver and other parts.

So she has been ingesting enormous amounts of information, they saw a naturopath, who identified some food intolerances, and after watching him lose a good portion of bodyweight they seem to have found a diet that is helping. So hard to watch them work through this.

Then last week, I was judging preserved foods at the fair and got a call from DH. "When do you think you'll be done?" Thinking he wanted me to pick up Papa Murphy's or stop at the store, I said, "Entries are down, not too long. Why...what do you need?" "Ohhhh, I'm at the ER. I cut off one of my fingers." Casual as you please.

He'd packed the digit and his hand on ice and drove himself 50 minutes to the ER and waited to call because he didn't want to interrupt judging because, "they haven't even seen me yet." I coulda killed him...

He wound up in the hospital for two days, then back for more surgery today. All in all he's very lucky...lost half of two fingers on his non-dominant hand and won't lose much function. Fortunately we got the best hand surgeon around.

Figures...he made beautiful furniture and custom cabinets for umpteen years and finally retires to work on our place...argh.

The surgeon about fell off his chair when DH said he wanted to start a support group, the Order of the Digitally Deficient (or....ODD). Funny guy. I'm gonna kill him.....
