You surely have oxalis --- it will bloom yellow & it's about the biggest pest known here in the SF Bay. Unless you want to completely start over again you will probably just have to live with it this year. The only options for destroying it in lawns usually cannot be used on newly seeded lawns. Trust me when I say spraying an appropriate herbicide is your only hope. I have lived with oxalis for 30 years -- even in open ground it cannot be successfully pulled. There are a thousand little bulbs, some almost microscopic, that break off. Ortho 'Weed-B-Gon' now has a version for killing oxalis and crabgrass in established lawns. Be patient. It takes a while but it does a pretty good job over time. Mix it to the exact directions: too strong might damage the lawn and it also can "burn" the oxalis so you lose the systemic benefits of it killing the roots. It will take days if not a week or more for the oxalis to show signs of dying back, depending on the weather, but it WILL work. You will probably be dealing with this over several seasons. Patience pays off with oxalis. Oh -- if your neighbors have it, you will get it again. It's very invasive in the Bay Area. Your popularity in the neighborhood may plummet if you've just sprouted a whole front yard full of the stuff.

I've thought about this some more. I usually don't check the eggs to see how many she lays. Then, after the final egg has been documented, I check the box again in 9-10 days for signs of hatching. I started looking after ten days this time. But because its so hard to get up to the box, and then look down in the nest, I probably didn't notice the increasing number of eggs. I would just see all eggs, and climb back down from the mini ladder. This past Sunday, I noticed one baby coming out of it's shell. I saw no other hatched eggs. So today (Monday) when I discovered the hatch ling gone, I observed that they were six eggs. A couple hours later, their were Seven. I looked around the nest. Whatever they did with the hatch ling, they did it somewhere away from the nest. I have a VERY small backyard. It's fenced, with no neighbors behind me. It's very unlikely anyone tampered with the nest. I'm wondering if the original nest makers and parents decided the eggs were duds? Or maybe some trouble befell them? I hadn't noticed the parents sitting on the nest. I just thought with the extreme NC heat, they didn't need to? About a week ago, I started seeing a bluebird couple eyeballing the nest. I thought they were Mom and Pop? All day I worried that another of the original eggs would hatch. The foster parents would probably dispose of them as well? Thanks for the replies friends. I'm not ruling anything in or out, but you may be onto something, Lori. Since this started, DH has found that he tolerates salad better than almost anything. I'm anxious to see what the doctor says Tuesday morning. DH is OK with me going because if doctors say anything more than two syllables long, he just tunes it out. And really -- do doctors know any words less than two syllables long? LOL! When DH saw his regular doc about this, he had the doc look at a growth on his temple. Doc sliced it off and sent it for biopsy. He called DH later and told him it wasn't cancer but it was "something else with a real long name" (according to DH). He told DH he could get "something with a real long name" to put on it. *sigh*

I'm so jealous your kitchen reno is going so fast. (no not really. Happy for youl) Breezygirl, our contractor quoted us 3 months for a full condo redo. We were supposed to be in by Sept. HAHAHAHA! Most likely we'll be in by in by mid Nov if lucky. If I were you, I'd double the time given, not just add a month. If you only add a month, then you'll be stressed and unhappy. If you double it and the GC gets finished in less time, you'll be happy. When we started DH believed the GC. I knew better and tried to explain to him that 3 months actually means 6. I'm not stressed, he is and I'm usually the one who gets stressed. I expect things to go wrong, things to be late, etc.
