Do you use a stylus with your smart phone?

I needed a birthday present, and it finally occurred to me that a stylus might be welcome as a practical addition to the smart phones we recently upgraded to. I mean, typing can be frustrating sometimes! After looking over the options and feeling like they weren't very good, I'm confident I found something you'll want to know about. Fat fingers on a small device is one thing I no longer have to think about, and David is going to love his birthday gift this year. Of course I bought myself one too, because I had to try it out!

This stylus works. Really works. I was a bit concerned since the arthritis in my fingers doesn't always make holding a pen easy. Since you only need the softest touch, there's no pressure needed, and I'm also happy the screen stays clean. The accuracy of using the stylus makes the task that much easier, and this is one of those tools you didn't know you needed but wouldn't do without...like the Joseph Joseph garlic mincer, Foodsaver or Thermapen. As much as I really do prefer an old-school physical keyboard for typing, it's not so bad with the right tool. If you have a smart phone or tablet with a touch screen, You Want One of these.

I have "The Double Duty" and it works great. My phone has both the touchpad and the regular keypad, so I find myself still using the regular keypad more often. But, I do like using the ballpoint pen on my stylus (I like the weight of it -- easy to find in my purse).

dlynn, had you seen or used one before making your purchase? I was ready to head to our local Best Buy but thought this seemed like a better alternative. I really liked the option of having so many choices! David needs a cap for his, and I like the normal pen size. Dual purpose is always good idea. I'm Loving it!

I believe both do have bluetooth but I never learned to use it. I will check it out. owbist; I always forget about youtube. However, I didn't see anything useful in your list. Remember, I had essentially succeeded in making a sim card transfe, but the data was not complete. The one on point post from your list also indicated incomplete data fields. I actually found that my transfer was worse than I originally thought. It only transferred the contact name and lost both the fact that the next contact was identical and thus a subset, but also lost any indication of the type of phone (work, home etc) and listed ALL entries as 'mobile'.

I have not yet given up my dumb phone for a smart phone, because I would miss my keyboard with actual keys! I'm a pretty fast texter, thanks to my kids. They never call or want to be called, but keep in touch constantly by text. Sometimes I will be texting back and forth with my husband, when he will call me. Then I remember that sometimes calling IS faster. For my best friends, one is almost completely deaf : texting is a godsend. My other best friend can't talk; can only whisper due to paralyzed vocal chords. Ditto about the godsend. Texting means a lot of people can communicate who were locked away before.

Well, yes & no. See the Carnegie Mellon study below. The flashlight app in question certainly did/does cop your data, so the guy isn't completely wrong. Whether that data got sold to foreign parties, who knows. Google has strengthen their app screening recently -- because there was a need for it. And mobile malware is on the rise. It all points to being mindful of what you're downloading on your phone, checking to see what permissions the app is asking for. I love my iPhone 10. I think it has amazing optics and settings for what it is. For travel photos it's perfect. The HDR quality is amazing, and it is pretty consistent about its abilities. But it has its limitations. I also love my old Nikon D700 DSLR, probably more for sentimental reasons than for anything else. The newer DSLR's have more capability. I took all of these photos this morning. The iPhone 10 can do this, which I think is AMAZING for the tiny little lens. The D700 can do this: OR this: The iPhone does this, which is a bit of over-enhancement of the colors and contrast and you can see quite a bit of lens distortion (see how the gravel in the foreground seems to stretch?) and the very deep depth of field (DOF). I don't know if the newer iPhones allow for manual DOF. The DSLR has a bit more realistic color, and an adjustable DOF. Here I focused on the rear flowers, and adjusted the DOF so the foreground flowers are blurry and the background is a little blurry. I could have set the camera to have more vibrant color and sharper contrast to have a photograph that pops more, like the iPhone, or I could adjust it in Photoshop or even Photos. Also, you can see that the framing is different, because of the wide angle of the iPhone lens. One more example, what you prefer is just a matter of taste. Again, I could have put on a lense and adjusted the DOF and exposure to create a photo similar to the iPhone's, but it would have taken time and effort, vs. point and shoot. With the iPhone, you can't get the narrow DOF, unless in portrait mode, which has programming specifically for face sizes and doesn't work with small flowers. I could have adjusted the iPhone shot manually to expose the buds better, but I wanted to show the point and shoot capability. iPhone 10: DSLR: Helen could probably expound upon this more. Smart phone? Nope, I still have the same old stupid phone, and I've never learned how to text and the phone is seldom charged anyway, Elery and I currnetly have 6,000 minutes to use on the account, LOL.

However, Elery has an iPod that I bought him for a Christmas/birthday gift, so I'm going to check out that link. When I get home tonight, because the office computer hits the "Sonic Wall" and won't let me access it, of course.

I was, mmmm...forced...to upgrade, when I lost my old Razr phone, so that tells you where I came from! I could care less about texting, even though at times it can be a useful way to communicate. (Very few in my case, but sometimes it's easier than a phone call.) I never needed a stylus until I got my new phone. They work really well on touch-screens; I'm LOVING it as a tool I didn't know I needed!

claire, do they hook on somehow? Elery looked, said it would be a great idea....for about 10 minutes, until he lost it.

Uh, no I don't think so. They're like pens with clips though, so if he can hang into a pen, he wouldn't have a problem. At least that's what I'm hoping for!

A lot of the telescoping styles have pen clips, and the capped versions all do too, along with plenty of others. I got David a capped pen so he could hook it to a pocket, and since his hands are pretty big, I though he'd like the extra length the cap provides.
