Latest on Bob's rehab

Bob has been steadily progressing in rehab. He walks with help, has been navigating stairs, again, with help. He is still on thickened liquids because of swallowing difficulties but that has as much to do with his COPD as it does with the stroke, I understand. Still little movement in his right hand, a little more in his arm,

We were able to bring him home on Saturday for a visit. He was here about 3 hours, "tried on" several chairs for comfort and ease, loved the new bathroom although I am going to have to get different grab bars, at the toilet,which won't be a problem. He was able to climb the 6 steps up the kitchen with no assistance (Tracy was right behind him) and I fixed lunch, fresh vegetables from the garden, and we all "pigged out". He seemed to thoroughly enjoy his trip home!

Still no word for his dismissal date but I don't think it will be that much longer.

Jude, thanks for the update on Bob's recovery. He sounds so determined. I'm certain that's got a lot to do with the progress. Keep on keeping on....

The visit home must have been great and encouraged both of you. To climb 6 steps is awesome! You're both still in my prayers.

Jude, Good news that Bob is continuing to get better. He must have really enjoyed getting home , even if it was just for a few hours. Hope his recovery continues and that he is home with you soon.

Bob is doing very well. I was freaking out because they were talking about sending him home earlier this week. I was trying to figure out how I could move a lot of the furniture to make room for him to use a walker or crutches in the apartment. So I was SOOOOOO relieved to learn they were going to have him stay at a rehab center until his foot heals better. I couldn't believe they were going to send him home (where the quarters are cramped and there are 16 stairs to go up from the underground garage). I guess they finally took their heads out of their butts and decided it might not be a good idea for him to climb all those stairs and have to get up to open the outside door for the visiting nurse. What dolts! I have been trying to find time to get to the library so I can get the computer guy's name and phone number off of my email contacts. *sigh* I thought I could have used my friend's computer last Saturday but stayed home trying to reconfigure the house to make room for Bob. She lives 50 miles away so it's not like I can stop there after work. I don't have access to my online email from work. I'm amazed I am able to access this site! Hopefully they won't discover that I've been here. Thank you all for the prayers. God is listening because I have calmed down and Bob is doing very well. You guys are the best! Love, Kathy

Here is the latest on my Bob ... on Monday (7/21) his colon surgeon finally came back from vacation. My freaking out while talking to his office staff must have triggered his phone call to Bob. He told him the pathology tests came back fine and they got all the cancer. Woo-hoo! That was a major weight off of both our minds. On Wednesday, Bob called me at work to tell me he had diarrhea and it was very dark in color. He had been complaining about soreness where his one colon surgery incision was so my first thought was that he had internal bleeding. I told him to call his surgeon to see what he recommended. He told Bob to go back to the hospital where he had the surgery as an outpatient to see what was wrong. I rushed home and took him to the hospital. They found out he was dehydrated and his iron pills (to help him get over his anemia from the colorectal cancer) was making his stool dark. So they pumped him with fluids, got his blood pressure stablized and told him all his blood tests came back fine. *sigh* Today I took him to his primary care physician and he is working with Bob to get his diabetes under control now. I keep telling Bob that he has to eat a number of small meals throughout the day rather than 2 or 3 bigger meals. When I brought it up at the doctor's, Bob agreed with me but then looked sheepish when I said, "Well then, why don't you do it?" The doctor started laughing. The doctor went through all of Bob's medication that he is on after the surgeries and told him not to take his diuretics any more. He prescribed a new diabetes medication for him since the one he is on doesn't seem to be helping much. If this doesn't work, Bob will need to go on insulin. Bob has been much better since he got the news of the pathology report. He has apologized for being difficult. And I am relieved that his health seems to be under control now. I have to credit so many of the prayers said by you folks with helping him to recover. It certainly is a testament to God that (1) Bob had the heart attack which put him in the hospital so that (2) his cancer was detected and taken care of in time. Thank you so much for all your help, because you indeed did help in making his recovery possible!

Thank you for all the responses. : ) CLG6708, Yes, I'm really about to give up on the company I have. They have our 3 vehicles and our homeowners policy and will lose all of them if I go somewhere else. Debrak, I haven't tried that but thank you for the suggestion. Gigi, thank you. I'm from San Francisco myself. Roblee off Silver. It's so nice to be in a town that welcomes creating downtown residential conversions. Desertsteph, we are so looking forward to actually living there. I work in that courthouse. I'm the county board of registrars chairman. Even now it's convenient as when I need to meet with someone there I can just pop out the back door and cross the street. When I have no info I'll post it. Only news today is I bought a great china cabinet for the new dining room. That's the room with the garish green paint - which will be replaced by Weathered Wood wallpaper by Kathy Ireland.

I remember using breadwrappers back in the eighties.$25.oo for a big roll at Amazon is not a big price to pay. I find it easy to work with. I am very comfortable with what i am doing, been at it for too long. Grafting is very important to me. I am not happy with a failed graft. I still do a lot of grafting, done with citrus for the year, have to do Mango, Atemoya, and Persimmon in latter part of April, than i am done for good. Probably done with Forums altogether. Btw, you guys trying making fun of me, got to enlighten you with a picture again. To do a graft this is what i use per graft.Two pieces of parafilm a piece of rubberband. Last spring graft has 11 small fruitlets now, next to zero money. Fwg don't even sell S/T tree's this nice.

Jude, it sounds like Bob is making really good progress. I'm glad to hear that he got to spend some time at home and you were able to feed him well!

I hope he's home full time soon and that he just keeps on getting better and better.

Wonderful news.

Nothing beats being at home - the food's better, the bed is better and the company is definitely better.

I had a message in my inbox this past Saturday, asking me to help with her picture, so here are her words and her picture!

"Bob was home again today, for a few hours, looking better and feeling stronger. Tried to post the picture on "Conversations but I still don't know how to do it. Maybe one of these days. Lu picked him up just before lunch and took him back at 4:00. Good to have him home if only for a short while."

You can see in his face how very happy he is to be home. Keep up the good work Bob!!! Did he pull weeds during his visit?

Cathy, he did NOT pull weeds and fortunately he was looking at the garden from a distance and only commented on how tall the okra was! Good thing he didn't get a close-up view.-)

Aw heck, Grandma said a weed was just a plant that was growing somewhere I didn't want it, forget about them!

Kudos to Bob for all his hard work, he earned his afternoon at home and I'm glad he got it. Happy for you too, I know you are anxious to have him back at home.
