Yep, it's hot/humid for sure. Thankfully we've got central A/C. At least we haven't had to water the gardens much, if any (dew point + ambient temp = 150) since there is so little evaporation.

Heat index around 110 degrees today. Our July average temp is 81 so, yes, it seems really hot. The NWS has had us on call since Tuesday for possible severe weather tomorrow when this breaks.

Stay cool everybody underneath this high pressure.

Yeah, it's been stinkin' hot here. The Real Feel temp at the moment is 104 and it's 7:30 in the evening. Fortunately, the heat wave is supposed to break tomorrow when storms go through.Yes, I have been sure to stay cool in the AC, but I am tired of being stuck inside. I'm drinking a glass of water right now, but always do with dinner.

I don't know how people stand a whole summer of weather like this!

Disaster!!!

I got an emergency call from a couple of friends. They were visiting about two hours away. They parked their car all day under the hot sun. When they returned, they turned on the engine and the A/C to cool the car down first before they got in. They locked themselves out of the car!

We exchange house-sitting so I have their house keys. I went to their house 1/2 hour away and looked for their spare car keys. Then I started to drive to them to get them going. About 1/2 hour into the drive, I got a call from them, telling me that their car was running low on gas. So I went and looked for a 5 gallon gas tank to bring them gas.

May hours thru rush hour NY traffic. I got their car door opened. They offered to buy me a very nice dinner, but I was too sweaty and exhausted (heat). I just wanted to get home.

I am not sure how many hours I spent to rescue them.

Hot here too, and the humidity is higher than the temperature. I don't have air conditioning in the house or in the Jeep.

Elery's Grandsons were here from California, they spent all the time in the pool, I think. Meanwhile, being the darned fool I am I turned the oven on to bake homemade pizza and this morning they had biscuits and gravy. 90F at 9 am isn't hot enough, so I turned the oven on 450F!

What we really need, though, is some rain. Thanks, Sally, for thinking of us. Whenever I think I'm too hot I think of my por SIL, Dave. He has his own garage, a big metal pole building. No air conditioning and his thermometer in there yesterday said 116F, while he's working on tractors. Nope, I'm just fine compared to that...

Dcarch, I'm wondering how, if they could turn their car on, they couldn't open the doors? You certainly earned many gold stars in your crown that day.

Annie, that's why I don't bake much in the summer. Next time, try grilling your pizza. I've never done it, but I've seen it done on t.v.. I was going to try it once, but our grill wasn't working at the time.

Dedtired, I'm glad you have AC. That's how we tolerate the heat here, with AC.

There are many ways that can happen. Ask security who monitors large parking lots for shopping malls how many times they have to help jimmy open car doors.

It happened to me once. I felt very stupid.

Hot. I'm mowing a very overgrown lawn and just came in to take a break. Thunderstorms with heavy rain are supposedly on their way this weekend and will be very welcome.

dcarch, I'm shaking my head at your story.

Option 1: Try to get a cop with a slim jim to open your car. Not great odds because they don't like to be bothered, and even if they are willing to try, newer cars tend to be made to protect against this. But the price is right so it's worth a shot.

Option 2: Call a locksmith. Costs approx $80.

Option 3: Break a cheaper window. $350 or so in a higher end car, less in a regular car.

Option 4: Call a friend to go to your house, search for keys, then drive at least 4 hours round trip because you were a knucklehead.

These are NY prices, verified over a few phone calls as I procrastinate because I really don't feel like going outside and finishing the lawn in this heat.

All good points, FOAS. I sure hope you don't over do it, but I understand it's a good idea to get that lawn mowed before the rain comes.

Option #5: Call Road Service, mine is AAA. Elery actually locked Cooper in the truck while it was running, and had to have AAA come to unlock the truck.

Police agencies are loathe to unlock vehicles any more because occasionally windows are cracked or some damage is done to the car. Then the owner of the car sues the police department to fix their car, and that's why most police departments won't unlock your car for you, their insurance carriers prohibit it in the policy.

Here it's a little more moderate. On Wednesday it was 91F and the humidity was 98%. You'd think with that level it would rain, wouldn't you? Today was better, it was a high of only 82F, with humidity hovering around 70%.

I've learned the hard way that with a road service, specifically AAA, you have to make sure they know exactly where you are. My daughter locked her keys in her car, called AAA, and waited. And waited. And continued to wait for over an hour. Finally, we called, and found out they were looking for her in Houston, not Dallas. It happened again to me. I had learned, though, and made sure they looked in the correct city. I actually had to repeatedly tell the dispatcher that I was at the Whole Foods in Dallas, not Austin. She was hard to convince, even when she couldn't find Abrams and Gaston on the Austin map.
