Hang in there.....My money is on 5th disease.....Stew and Robin had it a year ago....took a month and was totally miserable....but now all gone.

Holding out hope for Fifth's Disease. As I recall my daughter had it as a teen and was miserable for awhile. Even RA isn't the worst thing. Diane/CraftyRN has managed to keep hers in check and keep on gardening!
Please report back. The doc's are taking their time in running all of the tests!

I had to google Fifth's Disease to learn about it. I would much rather that you have that than RA since it is short term. I hadn't known that you were having these symptoms and I 'm sorry you have not been well.

You have all of my good thoughts. It's just so frustrating to see and think about things you want to do and your body just won't cooperate. Fortunately there are lots of answers and treatments for what ails us. I hope the doc has good news for you. Be sure to let us know.

Good thoughts from Texas also. I hope it isn't RA, but my deceased Mom's neighbor has had it for years and manages quite well. She plays golf nearly every day and has got to be in her mid 70's.
To clarify, my Mom is deceased and not the neighbor !

Trixie, you gave me a good laugh, so LOL!

Based on the test results it seems to be RA, but he is testing for the 5th thing, which is the human parvovirus. (Send me to the vets?) Also checking for Lymes, but we really doubt that one. He has ordered some more blood work and x-rays of knees and shoulders, since those ache the most now, and I stay on the pred for another week or so.

I can't say I was thilled with this doc, but maybe that was me. He seemed a bit blase and indifferant and said we would discuss treatment option "at the next appointment". Jeez, I barely walked in! I was nervous and not thinking straight, but I do have an email for him, so I may just send him a note, including questions I didn't ask.

This isn't the end of the world, but I am not used to being "sick", so this achy, tired feeling has me down.

Linda, boy do I have your number! Thanks for the pep talk the other day. It really helped. The doc did mention the med you are on, so that may be the first try.

Where is Diane? I haven't seen a post from her in a while.

I've been checking back throughout the afternoon for an update. I know this is not what you wanted to hear from the Dr., but knowing is better than not knowing and the final dx could still change.

If you are going to need ongoing care, you will have to decide if this is the right Dr. for you. You should have plenty of options where you live. I think that respecting and liking your Dr., as well as feeling that the two of you are a team making decisions about your health is so important. You need to be "thrilled" about any Dr. you are going see more than once or twice and not all personalities are a good match.

You will stay in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry the doc wasn't what you were hoping for. Sometimes it takes a couple of visits to get comfortable. Other times it takes visits to a few different docs to find one you like.

I think the drug I take is the one they usually start with. Then if that doesn't seem to help, they move up the ladder to stronger stuff. I have been fortunate that it helps me and I haven't had to move on to "bigger and better" drugs!

Chin up, girl! It's gonna get better now that you are on the path to knowing what you're dealing with!

Thanks for the update, I'll still hold out some hope for 5th's. If it is RA, I'm confident that once the meds take hold, you'll feel much better! And ditto on changing the doctor if after a few visits he's not communicating. Often support groups or online forums will provide a wealth of info and treatment options to inquire about.But as a CF'er you knew that already! ;)

Sending you good thoughts Peppi, go with your gut instinct, though...if this dr. didn't thrill you, there's a reason why. Hopefully you'll get some answers soon.

Peppi, I'm still sending all the good thoughts I can muster up. I'm sorry about the doc...and agree with everyone else on getting a second opinion if your not comfortable with this doc. Usually though, test don't lie when it comes to blood work.

I just want you to get better. I know this is hard and if I were a fairy I would grant you the wish for it to just disapper. :-)

I just saw this, too. Yesterday, for some reason, I couldn't get the conversations page to open for me. I even tried to post about it, and that didn't work well, as y'all may have noticed.

Anyway, I hope things turn out as well as possible for you, Peppi. I used to work with a young woman that had RA, and she has managed a full life. I don't see he often any more, as she has moved, but when I do it seems she's always busy.

I've never heard of Fifth's Disease. I'll try to look it up later.

Peppi, I'm going to chime in here and agree on the doc. If you don't like him or trust him, go to another. Amanda changed neurologists 3 times before she found one that she liked and trusted and they've developed a good rapport. He even diagnosed her gastric reflux when the other docs were saying her cough was from asthma.

You have access to great medical resources there, find another one if this one doesn't suit you.

It takes some time to develop a relationship with a new doctor. They tend to be way over scheduled. This may have been the trouble on your appointment day.
