After 193 days in the hospital and rehab, our beautiful granddaughter, Rhana, will be released to go home on June 26, 2013. Her journey continues, but with the love and prayers of family, friends and countless strangers, she is getting better by the day. She is a fighter and the things that she has had to go through on this journey, should not have to be borne by anyone, especially a 12 year old girl.

We are continually amazed by her grace, wisdom and spunk. She is an inspiration to all.

I just had to let you know how proud of her we are. How much we love her and most of all how thrilled we are she is coming home. Mary

My pond in June 2013

About a month or so ago, I found a black goldfish in my pond about 3" long. I read about it. Turns out they can revert to gold. The liner in my pond is black, and since he's native to that environment, he's black. I added turquoise, pale blue and white mixed pebbles from the pet shop, and my baby (Black Jack) is slowly turning orange more and more each day. He holds his own - eats the cooked cucumbers, shelled peas, frozen worms and shrimp right alongside his full colored elders. He's becoming more friendly now, and by George, I can see him now. A new baby frog came along a few days ago to keep company to the other one. First year with the frogs. I have included one photo of my first frog. I did my research, and it's a female.

First of pix is beautiful, snow n all! Second pic of all the "kids" gone to sleep is the first of its kind I have ever seen...that's quite a collection of hosta you have there. :-). NF and C are hanging in there great, aren't they? Soon we too will have snow but I am relishing it simply because it makes a cozy blanket for all the plants in the garden, including the superstars-my hosta! I'm hoping for no snow till after hallowe'en...fingers crossed.

Oh hooray, hooray, I've been waiting to hear this. You know I've kept "tabs" on Rhana via her webpage, and so I'm excited. She's worked so hard and done so much, I just know she'll work her way through everything she must to recover.

I can only wish her good luck and continued success, and hope things get easier all the time. Hugs to Rhana and her parents and to you, Mary, for all the difficult days you've had to endure.

Give that girl a red velvet cupcake!

I am constantly amazed by children, because they don't know any other way but to fight! And why should they?

So glad to hear Rhana is making great strides. Hugs and wishes for continued progress.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement and kind thoughts. I will keep you updated when the big day finally gets here.

The red velvet cupcakes were Rhana's favorite until a nurse made the remark that if she ate them, she would get fat. An off the cuff remark that finished desserts period and began a 10 pound weight loss! She is at that critical self image age that everything said is taken literally.

Pffft to that nurse. Tell Rhana that she's working hard enough to work it off, especially if it's a cupcake and not the whole cake. (grin) We can give her half as much frosting if she likes.

Even without the cupcakes you know she has my prayers, my best wishes, all my support and lots of virtual hugs coming from Michigan.

Tell her to eat the cupcakes standing up at the sink and the calories don't count! Good incentive to get up and get going, which I know she will. I saw the gift she made for her dad -- very cute!

Cupcakes are the least of her worries right now. Her attitude and stamina through this is amazing. I'm sure this experience will make her a stronger person.

Yes, it went wonderfully. Thank you for asking. She is home. She had surf, turf, potatoes and artichoke for dinner, with welcome home cake and said it was the best meal she ever ate! Her heart rate is the best it's been in months. I guess home is truly the best place to be.

I'm so grateful for everyone's thoughts, prayers and encouragement. Mary

Ps: her "pesky" 6 year old brother slept in her room with her last night. Just because he wanted to make sure she was alright. :)

I'll second that "welcome home", Rhana. I'm happy she's home, I know she'll work hard to get back to as much normalcy as she can.

I think home is nearly always the best place to be, and her family is overjoyed to have her, I know.

That is great news!! I bet she loved having her pesky little brother checking up on her. Now that is brotherly love. So happy for you all.
