My latest find - an old sink with drainboards

I've been looking for one of these in great condition for years. After moving my washer/dryer upstairs from the basement five years ago, I wanted a ''self-contained'' water source to put in its place, and been looking ever since. They're easy enough to find, in good condition NOT. What I found is very much like this and I'm tickled! It's in great original shape, no chips or cracks and with just the right amount of patina. I found it ten minutes from home, and the price was right. I'm thrilled!

I'm trying not to think about remodeling my basement at this point, but only to start cleaning up the storage area (which isn't huge). I have two large shelving units and a rolling clothes rack ready to go in place. This will make a good beginning. Little steps!

Wow, that does look pretty pristine! Congrats on finding what you were looking for. Maybe there's a reason you didn't find it till now... maybe now is the EXACT right time to do not do that remodeling! Good luck with your project!!

Oh, the picture isn't mine, although I'm positive it will clean up to the same condition. It still has the old putty on it and needs some TLC. I just wanted to find an exact replica for you to see that looks good!

Yes, a quick (and dirty) cleanup will inspire me to the next phase (after the roof is replaced and the fence repaired. It's always somethin'!) One of things I learned about remodeling was having the materials in place makes the process more smooth. At least I can take my time.

Sounds like your large light in the middle is a mogul base. You can still get them, but they're getting harder to find. I can't see a switch on the bottom, so assume it does not have the night light. Many in that time-frame did, especially if it had that onyx insert on the base. It would have a small switch on the base. I agree with Linda this one looks forties up to mid fifties. I don't know about the shade. So many of them were covered in a plastic film many people left on the shades to protect them from dust, it may be original, but most of the old ones had scorch marks where heat from the incandescent lights left their mark. I also suspect it may be a replacement somewhere down the line, albeit a retro one. The shallow-depth cylinder style (mid century modern) shade starts to become more common by mid-fifties, as opposed to the inverted vase-shape and is not so often seen in this more traditonally styled lamp.

Kathleen, you're right, Replacements Limited is the place I'd go only if I was desperate for an important piece I couldn't find after a long search. They're definitely not cheap! Gail, too funny! VMP: oh my gosh, they do look a lot like my bowls! I'm absolutely floored by the replacement price for yours!! That coffee pot is just exquisite. Neesie, Yes, check your TM. I did call the other two in Albuquerque and neither had any of the fish plates, in any size. I keep thinking about them and may go back and buy the four dinner plates they had tomorrow while I'm in town. I don't know what it is about these plates, but I do like them a lot. Perhaps it's that they remind me of my childhood growing up in Michigan on the lakes. I hope you find some. Luvs, thanks! I'm going to take the brown and white flowered plates back tomorrow. I may use the money to buy four of the fish dinner plates ;^P

I'd leave it as is for now as sure looks great for Halloween! Library might have antique books in reference or check out section or try finding it on the Web. I have a wrought iron 1 that swivels but with a square top & very heavy, got at yard sale for $15. & I love it not anywhere as nice as yours, I love the balls in the feet. Jan

Isn't it pretty wood? I do get to peek at CL fairly often as I work from home. Long hours, and lots of conference calls, so when I get a quick break, I'll see what's new on CL. I put this chair on my picnic table/project bench yesterday after work and stripped the seat off carefully, along with hundreds of nails, tacks, you name it. I left the black cloth covering the bottom, the burlap webbing, and the springs tied to it. What I removed, I put in a plastic bag to preserve so I can go back to it for reference when I re-do the seat. I couldn't resist going over a few more parts with a bit of RAF and I see some beautiful grain to the wood. Some is quarter sawn, and some may be tiger oak. I need to show it to a neighbor of my mother's who is a cabinet maker to get the scoop. To see the wood revealed by the RAF is a wonderful sight. I will so enjoy fixing this up!

Cathy, considering how much flash flooding we've had lately, I suppose it's also ''unfair'' that we have a dry basement! We started looking at houses one year after the 1993 floods, and could tell wet basements were a real problem around here. (When in doubt, look for the house at the top of a hill, keep those drains and gutters clear, and grade away from your house!)

One benefit of tonight's rain is the double rainbow I got a fantastic picture of right out my back door. I don't get to see many of those.

Pam, if we did remodel, I'd be the one who is dedtired.

We still live in Dorothy-land, so I'm trying to clear a habitable space in case of inclement (tornado) weather. Right now, I won't even go down there.

Claire, that looks like my old sink before the redo 10 years ago. I still miss that sink, I loved the way it drained and cleaned up. Comet and some bleach and it was white as new snow.

Looks like my old sink 12 years ago before the kitchen remodel. It was a wonderful sink, but left me no countertop space at all on that side of the kitchen, not that I have all that much space anyway.

Yes, a safe place in the basement would be my first priority in Dorothy-land!
