| I've been reading over there for a few months now and I gotta tell you, those people scare me to death!
It's an etiquette forum but if you ask me, most of the people are so rude! What they say to people, how they handle situations, how they tell others to handle situations and what to say. I sit here and cringe sometimes at some of those posts. Is it proper etiquette to be so mean/rude/nasty??? Or even saying exactly what is on your mind? For instance, if you are in a store and someone compliments you on your skirt and touches it, would you really say "Stop touching me!"...... I'd never!!! Anyone read over there? How do you feel? |
Follow-Up Postings:
| I haven't Shaun, maybe I'll venture over ;) I'm 47, but often feel like I must be terribly out of touch because I get worked up over people not extending "old fashioned" courtesies like holding doors, saying thank you, waving thanks in the car for letting someone merge, getting up to give a seat to an elderly person, etc. Today, it seems like most people want to find something to get offended about. The world has become so sensitive. |
| I've never read it. Where is it? |
| No I haven't read the Etiquette Forum. I'll have to look for it. I get my kicks out of Stepfamilies Forum. Talk about dysfunctional -- wow. |

| I think I need to expand my horizons on rainy cottage days! |
| No wonder I don't read it. I can't find it. Where is it? |

| I wonder if that forum (which I have not seen) is a look into the accurate, everyday lives of people though, or if it's an extension of things like comment sections to articles in the newspaper. Have you ever seen some of the vile stuff that goes on in those? If there are people that would actually say or believe that stuff in real life, it's truly frightening. |
| I've never gone there either, because I guess I just don't care about etiquette, LOL. I was taught to be as kind as possible, treat others the way you would like to be treated, do as much good and as little harm as you can in this world. Never be impressed by what a person has, be impressed by what a person does. I figured that if I did those things, didn't eat with my fingers at dinner parties and drove on the right side of the road, I'd be OK! Annie |
| Annie hahahah! You're a good egg girl! Well here is a link to that forum.... it's every day stuff; not just stuff they read online or in the news. The example I gave about the person touching someone, that was a real example of what one lady posted. I just can't imagine telling someone, a stranger who admired my skirt and was touching it to Stop Touching me! Maybe if I had a phobia of people touching me I would feel different but there are scads and scads of posts where they really are mean. I try not to lie to people BUT there are occasions where I will lie in order to not hurt someone's feelings. These people over there dont' hold back. They'll tell it like it is rgardless of who's feelings they hurt. It just seems that some of them are so harsh. |

| Don't know if any are still there..but they went on and on and threads and threads about shoes off in a house or not..... For a few years.......... LOL |
| Oh, man, this is funny. I absolutely love the phrase "I'm sorry, that is just not possible". I've had people put me in awful positions and that phrase is a real bail-out! I've told friends who say they love it too and will use it appropriately. |

| Some people with really poor innate social skills think it's more important to follow a set of rules than actually. . . make other people feel good. I'm amazed how often I say something tacky, awkward, or rude and my friends forgive me. . . . 'cause they can tell I like them as people. . . . |

| Don't know if any are still there..but they went on and on and threads and threads about shoes off in a house or not..... For a few years.......... LOL I had participated in one of those threads a few years ago and was contacted by a reporter (via email) and she asked if she could interview me for her article. I agreed, she called on the phone and I was quoted in the WALL STREET JOURNAL! I'm sure when my dear old dad was alive and used to read the Journal daily (he passed before the article was written) he didn't have this topic in mind when he hoped I would someday be quoted in that fine publication! LOLOLOL! Alexa |
