Oh what a night.....

My youngest, Dave, got married last night.

My son married a wonderful young woman, Leigh, here in Baltimore last night, and it was a great wedding. Lots of family, friends, great food and music and dancing It seems that my two year old granddaughter is quite the party girl, we had a hard time getting her off the dance floor, and she kept asking for "drinks"!

Now all three of mine are married, and I feel a bit old. He is the last of the cousins on my side of the family. The next weddings will be the grandchildren.

It is definitely easier to be the mother of the groom!

Mehitabel, Of course your orchids will get up and go when the warm weather hits them. They KNOW it won't last, so they have to make the most of a given situation. Reminds me of what happens in the drier parts of the country (the Negev and the Judean desert) when the first rains arrive. Within days, everything is covered with a mantle of green and autumn wildflowers start to appear. My orchids know that warmth and light is not a problem, and they have learnt to cope with less than 50% humidity, so they grow slowly and steadily at their own pace, with or without accordion-pleated leaves (lol). And I know not to attempt to grow any orchid that can't tolerate the heat. Still leaves me with plenty of lovelies that I should be able to grow. Enjoy your summer! Judy

I've heard of this before, but only knew it to be used with young woody plants that were prone to budding early. A neighbor always sprayed his ornamental tree before a hard freeze, and it looked gorgeous next morning, I thought it was to make it look wintry. Had no idea it was to keep from killing the buds. Live and learn. I'd be interested in knowing if the same method works for plants as water-filled and leafy as hosta. Good luck, Gesila. A few days should tell the tale.

Hey NC, Your plant looks fine, just do not start fertilizing her too much. As for my plants yes, the reds are turning darker, the yellows that are suppose to have red veining or red colors like Ruby Gold from Oz, Sherbert Town, Firestorm from JJs, Penang Peach, Lava Flow start to develop their reds. Up until the heat wave Sherbert town was solid Yelow, Jackie was solid Yellow, Kimo was more yellow now pink and orange, and Musk rainbow is loking more purple around the edges. So your plumies fine. As for Sheer Beauty that is another one I had 2 of, one from the source Anucha and another one from a friend who I think got it from BBB. Brad does have Sheer Beauty from time to time so you need to check out his site as it sells out quickly. I ended up getting rid of both of my SB as they did not perform well, did not look like its pic, save your money NC. JL Dane is another one that does not peform well.... So save your money. Get a purple Jack or a JL Golden Pagoda before Dane or SB. Golden Ray from JJ's is also nice and will perform to a degree in cooler temps and if you get in to the mid 80s plus GR is a stunner. Ok hoped that helped.

As a little boy, my DH lived in China, and one day, while in his grandmother's care, they visited a 'soothsayer.' She was a woman from their rural village, who was supposedly gifted with visions of the future. She told DH's grandmother that DH would move far from China, and travel across a great ocean, before he was an adult. He would marry a 'ghost lady,' (that is what they called a Caucasian female) and have 3 children. She said he would have a boy, then a girl, then a boy. DH's grandmother was also told that DH's 2 sons would look like 'ghost fellows' but his daughter would look just like her great grandmother. This all seemed very far fetched, as no one in DH's family, having always lived in their remote village in China, had ever crossed a 'great ocean' before, and DH said he'd never even seen a Caucasian before, (until after he left China.) Well, 6 years later, DH and another family member escaped from Communist China, to Macau. Then 7 years later, he ended up moving here at age 16, to attend a boarding school, so he could learn English, and then get his college education here. So in fact, he did move far from China, by crossing a great ocean, before he was an adult. We met in our 20's and married. We had 3 kids, boy, girl, boy. Sure enough, I gave birth to sons who somehow exclusively inherited my (Irish) looks. Only our daughter looks Asian, but she doesn't resemble DH. She is however, the spitting image of DH's grandmother. It makes the skeptic in me concede, that perhaps some people actually are clairvoyant.

The kids are always the most fun at weddings, I'm always disappointed at the "adults only" affairs, they aren't nearly as much fun without a 2 year old tearing up the dance floor!

Congratulations to your son and his lovely wife. don't be sad that he's the last, be relieved. There'll be a whole new generation, coming right up.

Thanks, all. It's hard to believe it's been just over a week. It was such fun, but I'm glad it's over. Like most big family events, the season was divided into "before" and after".

With my DD and grandchildren here until August and my SIL coming back for two weeks of R&R in July, it should be wonderful summer.

Oh what a night.....
