Sharon, i don't know about European standards, but get a Blu Ray player instead of a plain DVD player, if possible. Price isn't too much more, and the quality (if you have a HD TV) is better on all disks, Blu-Ray or older ones. (But you can't play BluRay disks on regular DVD player, it does work the other way.)

That said, I agree with you completely. That's a great movie! Last night we tried to watch Bad Lieutenant: Port of New Orleans. Don't bother, even if you like Nicholas Cage. Turned it off and put in an old DVD of Big Chill, much better.

Is it just me, or is there an absolute DEARTH of good films coming out these days?

I saw that in the theater a few years ago and enjoyed it a lot. Burt sure was a crusty, determined old character.

I was flipping channels the other night and ended up watching City Slickers with Billy Crystal (he was in the movie, we weren't watching it together!). It's another feel-good movie that is so well acted and hilariously funny.

We really enjoyed The World's fastest Indian too! Not much to see out there. I hear City Lights is good, but haven't found a convenient time to watch it. Babysitting all weekend soa movie is out!

We just watched Local Hero for the first time in years. Made in 1983, but the movie has aged well, and is completely relevant today, especially. If you've never seen this one, or haven't seen it for ages, we give it hearty thumbs up!

I saw The World's Fastest Indian recently and liked it a lot! Yes, a good family movie. A true rarity these days.

I will have to find this movie. When I was a baby, my dad had an Indian that he rode from West Palm Beach, FL to San Jose, CA to go to dive school. I have a picture cherished picture of him on the Indian.
