There have been no new posts for today (Thursday). Replies to other days' posts, but no new ones for today.

You don't suppose we've run out of new things to talk about food and cooking? ...Nah.

I think that when the weather is nice, there are fewer new posts. I expect it to be slow here during the summer as well. I'm able to post because things are a bit slow here at work, and most of my projects are on hold at the moment. I'm also having a bit of trouble with a new chair design - it is just not coming out like I want it.

Yeah, maybe a few new posts are exactly what we need to sort of cool things down. Got kind of dicey on one of the topics and I hate it when we get snippy with each other.

I too in 2012 am having the same problem with the rubber foot on the burner melting off and in turn causing the porcelain surface under it to be permanetly discolored. Thier excuse is the hole is where the hook goes during the coating process and they have to fill it with the rubber plugafter manufacturing it. They are trying to say I must cook at high heat for extended periods of time, thus it's my fault. I said I boiled water for 20 minutes and it happened. I am on my third set of grates and second set of pocelain. Now they said all they will do is send a relacement kit which includes the rubber feet and some adhesive so i can fix it myself!!! I am so upset. %K for a stove and this is there solution??? Anyone else have any input? They also said this is not an ongoing problem although each time the repair guys camer ou they laughed and said it's been an ongoing issue for years.

I want a dryer that starts even when you forget to push the button. Oh, and even better, a washer that moves the clothes to the dryer for you. We're facing the tech question now because we'll be building soon. I'm pretty sure I want a programmable front door lock. Our Nest never learned a pattern from us, because 1) we both work at home so don't have predictable schedules and 2) the thermostat is too high on the hall to notice when I walk by. I thought it was broken, but, no, I'm just short. We've never had a "is the garage door closed?" capability but wouldn't object to it. I won't spend extra for our smoke detectors to talk to our thermostat. We have no interaction besides batteries with our CO2 detector or smoke detectors. I don't need them to be smart--just to work. I'm interested in being able to turn off all the lights at once but don't know that I care about mood settings. I insist on being able to turn on the outside light from my car--DH programmed that for me so my 3rd HomeLink button in the car turns on the outside lights--I love that. It's even better than the motion sensitive light, because that didn't click in until I was already in the driveway. (I've already got the tall dark and handsome part down)

Make small NYC apartment more interesting and homey

Cute apartment. A few ideas: Floor plant on one side of fireplace to bring some color on that side Sofa is small so don’t do too many pillows. 1-2 and a cozy throw for the NYC cold winters! Small round storage ottoman (on wheels or sliders) nestled by fireplace can be storage and pulled out for storage too (maybe something with texture ) Where do you eat? The types of coffee tables with a top that hinges up/out to become a table is a good idea. Someone posted upthread but West Elm and other box stores sell them. Rug- great way to bring in color (even if it’s subtle). Just make sure you get a size big enough but one that gues by impede movement of your office chair. It looks like you work at home a lot. Gallery wall above sofa would be nice. Current art is too small and high. Kitchen- looks clean! Add color with wood cutting board, colored teal kettle or bowl of oranges/apples, salt/pepper shaker. You also consider a series of art/prints in the wall above the cabinets. Can’t wait to see what you do!

I really miss those specialty nurseries--soooo many are gone now. Often they had plants nobody else had. I loved one especially, Seneca (something--Hills? maybe) Perennials in upstate NY, owned by Ellen Hornung, if I have her name right. Without the internet to provide a picture and more info, you often took a leap of faith in ordering, but over the years, i got some amazing plants.

I haven't been back to that topic since I lasted posted on it, for fear of more snippy comments! No one seems to want to talk that much about egg rolls wrappers, however.

Concur and regret bringing it up.

Not interesting just new topic: DH is eager to go on one last trip to Europe; his doctor said it's inevitable he will be on kidney dialysis. Europe is our favorite vacation destination; we have never taken a tour, we have always rented a car. I get overzealous and go from dawn to dusk, love staying in castles and zimmers. I'm thinking that a European cruise will be a good alternative to driving as it would be easier on him. I haven't begun to browse the various cruise forums-any experience with European cruises?

As always, thanks for your input...well let me rethink that!

Oh Cathy, I'm sorry to read that news. My parents took many cruises and I will ask Mom for some suggestions. When she was a working travel agent, she was NOT a fan of Viking River Cruises. There was another cruiseline that she preferred, I'll ask.

I'm seeing several that include Istanbul which was one of my dream destinations...maybe not with the current political climate. But I would appreciate any insight from your mom.

I have only good things about Overseas Adventure Travel. It is part of Grand Circle (which I have NOT heard great things about). OAT is small groups and the guides are supposed to be wonderful. They do go to Turkey, a place I'd love to see.

Here's a web site that reviews cruises and may be helpful. I also get lots of good travel advice from Trip Advisor. The Travel Forums for each destination are especially helpful -- kind of like a CF for travel.

I'm so sorry your husband is having health issues.

Thanks Pam, I'll check out OAT ASAP. I relied heavily on the Cruise Critic when planning our Alaska cruise last fall and Fodors for European travel over the years.

Cathy, do you have a favorite tour company? As much as I prefer to not go with a group, I don't want to travel alone to places where I have not been.

Pam, I have never used a tour company so I'm open to suggestions. We have always been adventurous; early on we relied on maps, books, and a good sense of direction. Of late it's GPS & internet. I'm not as confident and a lot more cautious than in the past-I guess that comes with age-so I'm thinking a Mediterranean cruise.
