As I mentioned before we had a wonderful time on our cruise. It truly was a trip to remember.

To refresh your minds we started in Tahiti, visited 4 French Polynesian Islands, Easter Island, 4 ports in South America, traveled through the Panama Canal , then 5 ports in the Caribbean and on to Charleston SC with NYC as our final destination,

Here are a few pics...Clive's are much better but if I wait for him to upload them I will have forgotten what they are!

An amazing performance by a French Polynesian native dance group in Papetee Tahiti. Somehow I got chosen to learn the drums...thankfully not the dances!

The Bon Appetite Cooking Centre and a very bad pic of me. I had 10 classes in total and loved everyone of them...learned a lot actually including how to say "YES CHEF". The chef instructor was quite rigorous . It wasn't just a "fun" thing although it was lots of fun!

A pic of a few of the magnificent Moai on Easter Island with our ship the background ( Rapa Nui is the proper native name for the island) . Also a closer pic of one of the Moai. The entire thing is carved out of stone right on the side of the mountain and then moved to it's proper place. The Moai were tributes to chiefs and family heads when they died...in order to have it ready for the funeral they started when the chief was still young.

A market in Manta Ecuador where Clive and I each bought real Panana hats...which are made in Ecuador not Panama...go figure.

As I say Clive's pictures are much better than mine but I cannot tell you how wonderful it all was....mind you I'm glad yo be back to normal food and my own bed.

OMG! I have been eagerly awaiting your trip report. Those are outstanding pictures but more impressive is the variety of experiences you had. Awesome and welcome home; now get cooking.

What a fabulous trip! I enjoyed every picture (and I usually cringe at travel pics). Seriously, I may sell my house and go on that trip. You look adorable at the drums and in your toque. Clive is cute in his wet suit! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone for your comments they are greatly appreciated. I am trying to be patient but I want them to be big now!! :) Moccasin- We do have three Japanese maples in that area now a Crimson Queen, a full moon and a autumn moon they are pretty small as I had to get them mail order so they are hard to see, we also have out several hundred mixed narcissus bulbs out for early spring color. I know what you mean about shopping I have orders in with Made in the Shade and Naylor. I am going to try to pace myself though (is that even possible) as this is going to be a long term project. Thanks everybody! Yeah Bustopher, we're definitely in a drought situation. We didn't get enough rain to build up hardly any snowpack in the upper Sierras. Not much run-off, so the creeks and reservoirs are getting extremely low. We're on every-other-day water rationing. They initially wanted us to cut back water use by 20-25% which for me is fine, because I over-watered last yr. So far, the roses are doing ok.

Smart thinking about the garage. Making it bigger I would think would do the trick. As far as the wet bar is concerned, I believe what they did is brought that wall of the MBR adjacent to the wetbar and made that a solid wall. They then moved the MBR door where it came out between the builtins by the fireplace. Next to the MBR doorway, they made a coat closet that is right there accessable to the foyer, nice and convenient. (Again this is on the left as you come in the front door.) The doorway to the library is almost immediately to your left after you come in the front door. Of course, there is no door. I beleive it's an arched entryway (open) from the foyer into the library. On that back wall of the library (between MBR and library) they made a partial wall of built-ins. So basically instead of having the entry to the wetbar/library/MBR, they brought that wall completely even with the LR/foyer left wall and made doors to MBR, coat closet and then made an arched entry to the library. Hope this is clear!! As far as the jack and jill bath, they HATE it. They don't have kids at home anymore but do have family/friends use those guest rooms. When someone from one room locks the both doors and forgets to unlock them, then someone from the other room can't get in and must come out and knock on the first person's room to get them to unlock the door for them. That is sometimes in the middle of the night. Inevitably someone forgets to unlock the door!! They have thought if they could do over again, they would split the vanities and make the door to the bath come out in that hallway. HOWEVER...then you have a problem if you need to get in bigger furniture in that back corner BR. You have a really hard time turning the corner at the end of the hallway to get especially big bulky furniture into that BR. Otherwise you can go straight through that bath from the one BR to the other and get furniture through. So many things to think about. It's just something you have to decide based on the needs of YOUR family. I hope this helps. If I can sometime I'll try and take some pics for you. I will say it is a BEAUTFIFUL house. No doubt you'll love it. Congratulations on getting your new home!

Lynxe, that kitchen is long gone. It was in terrible disrepair. The laminate counter was completely separated from the wall, many of the cabinets were separating from the wall. Most of the drawers were broken and not even usable. The linoleum floor was stained. It also had a separate utility room for storage, and a washer and dryer. We decided to grab the space from that to make the kitchen larger. We ended up removing 2 walls, one of which was load bearing and we had to put in a lam beam to keep the house structurally sound. The kitchen is now completely open to the dining room. I will add more pictures of the kitchen when I get a chance. It is not the typical "period/cottage" kitchen that is so prevalent in magazines. Since it is open to the rest of the house I wanted something a little more warm, and a little more french country. I love how it is turning out, it is not yet complete as my DH has done everything with the exception of the counters himself. Sorry about the toilet lid, didn't realize it was such a no-no. If you notice there is also a little pink plastic microphone in the pic, I suspect I know who left the lid up.

Ellen we were gone 38 days ,,,favourite place, that's tough as they each offered so many different things.

Easter Island, Cartegena Columbia , San Jaun and Charleston but honestly it's hard to say French Polynesia is so amazingly beautiful. The water and the beaches are spectacular and the native population is gentle, kind and simple...in a nice way.

The Caribbean is the Caribbean but we did visit St Bart's which is drop dead gorgeous with seriously expensive shops and restaurants. It's like the French Riviera...didn't buy or eat a thing and will never be back but I saw it.

John, the cooking classes were amazing! The chef instructor taught at the Culinary Institute of America and was serious about her profession but she was also great fun...I was so happy it was real cooking lessons...not powder puffy ..if you know what I mean. Knife skills...man she was a tyrant but I learned!

As a bonus the leg of the cruise from Lima to New York was a Bon Appetite culinary cruise so they had several guest chefs and wine experts who gave demonstrations and lectures every sea day. ...about 6-8 in all I would say.

The executive chef of the ship would co -host and he was a real hoot. A seriously good chef but he had an amazing sense of humour as he chided and played sous chef for the guest chefs. Mind you I did see him when they were setting up one of their special Teas and he was seriously ticked with something or other...man did those chefs, cooks etc jump! YES CHEF!!!

Clive has pics of the four 5 star restaurants on board as well as some dinner pics...I'll post when he gets his gazillion pics sorted.

So now you're a trained musician as well as a great cook. I'm expecting that you'll be giving performances at the cabin regularly. (grin)

What a fabulous trip. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I'd love to be able to take cooking classes like that. What did you make? What was your favorite thing you made?

I especially enjoyed the Easter Island pics, but they are all good. I also loved seeing the picture of you at the drums surrounded by all the men, and the one of Clive and his bright yellow duck feet. lol

I've been so intrigued by your descriptions of this trip that last night I dreamed I was on a Pacific cruise with with my former supervisor! I think it was your descriptions/pictures of French Polynesia that did it for me.

Kevin and I to intend to follow in your European footsteps and take a trip to Italy in 2015. Maybe we can also follow that with a trip to Tahiti a few years later!

I'm glad you are enjoying your travel. Do you have any idea where you might go next? How long will you be at home this time?
