Need some prayers, please...(long)

It seems like there's a black cloud hanging round.

Chrissy, the daughter of one of my dearest friends is not doing well. A couple of years ago she found out she had breast cancer. She went thru the usual treatments as well as a few alternatives and she beat it. Or so it seemed. Fast forward a year.

It came back and with a vengeance. Recently it was discovered in her bones, so she began another round of radiation and chemo. All checked out pretty good in the battery of scans she had 3 weeks ago. But the past few days she began experiencing a lot of pain. Yesterday she had a PET scan and they found that the cancer is now in her legs, her back and her neck. Her bones are so weak from all of the chemo that they won't let her walk for fear of breaking her legs.

She went into the hospital last night. This evening we attended a benefit for her. Unfortunately she was unable to attend. I have never seen so many people in one place before in my life!

I am not sure that prayers will keep her with us longer, but I am hoping her remaining days will be peaceful and comfortable.

She is 37 years old and has two sons, ages 14 and 4 years.

My heart is breaking for all of them.

Another good friend just lost her brother (age 54) to cancer in February. About 3 weeks ago her mom found out she has esophageal cancer. They are doing what they can but at her age (I think about 78 or so) there is only so much she can tolerate.

If any of you have a minute to send some healing and strength to Chrissy and Loyce, I know it would make a world of difference.

Linda, This is so heartbreaking. I can't imagine the pain--physical and emotional. Bless you for reaching out on her behalf.

Linda, I am thinking of Chrissy and Loyce. I am so sorry for the ordeal they must endure and hope their days can be comfortable and filled with love.

I do not understand why so many young women are getting breast cancer now. There must be a reason.

I was at my library plant sale yesterday and saw an old friend. I was stunned because she is undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer and has lost her hair and eyebrows. I hope and pray she will pull through, but that form of cancer is so deadly. My sister died of it at age 51.

Just one more reason to enjoy every single day and be grateful for for what we have.

Thank you all again. It's good to come here, as I mentioned on another post to 'escape'. Also to 'feel' the caring support from all of you. Update as of today...Dad needs a transfusion. It seems there is blood loss within the bone. His blood count has dropped, but I was told that in the elderly it's not uncommon. The problem is he's refusing it. We are trying to convince him it's for his own good if he wants to get better and go home. Tomorrow he'll make his decision. OA..you're right - nothing happens in the order we expect. Punk.. 'Looking up and asking for help' certainly does help get you through most situations. Kathleen...I remember you mentioning losing your Dad at a young age.. I thought how strong you mother was raising you and your sisters alone. As far as 'bittersweet' feelings on Christmas...I can totally relate to that. We lost DH's Mom on Christmas - his Dad on Easter..a Sister on Memorial Day, and now our Neice on Mother's Day.. As hard as it may be, it's so important for us to look forward and find the good in each day and make the most of it. janet1...I will keep your DGD in my prayers..and will look forward to you sharing all the 'Good News' about your new GGD. jan..thanks for all the helpful information. You brought up lots of good points on what to do once he's in rehab. Pictures, food and an Afghan are wonderful ideas. I just hope he accepts going to rehab eaisly..and that he agrees to one close enough to make the visits easy. You can see, with his personality...I can only 'suggest' it...lol He's the one in charge!! jane

Thanks everyone. Susan-They will be able to do most of the preliminaries and paperwork by phone and fax and when the final signing is done DSIL will fly home. Msmarion-Inspection is to be done if the offer is accepted with an inspector of DD and DSIL's choice and paid for by the seller.This house has been on the market for more than 6 months.The Realtor listing it has had it for 5 months and the price has been reduced once.Hopefully they are desperate enough to sell that they will accept the offer.DGS (he's 8) is already decorating his room and is going to be mighty disappointed if it doesn't go through.LOL

Saying prayers for you and Hank. Here is our experience with non-surgical treatment of ACL tear in a 160-lb senior English mastiff who has all four legs. What we do: *Rimadyl 2x a day *Canine Cortaflex (a liquid form of MSM, glucosamine, and chondroitin on which the maker offers a money-back guarantee) 2x a day *fish oil 1 x daily *massage (we do this, to keep blood supply to the joint so it heals and to keep him relaxed) *orthopedic foam beds and a twin mattress on the floor, on which he has dibs *bedding has to be smooth and wrinkle-free so he doesn't catch his feet or legs in it and sprain his good legs or reinjure the knee *no stairs *no rugs that slide or bunch *no wrestling with younger mastiffs *leash walks to control how much he runs and plays (which he wants to do now) *make sure he stays at his ideal weight to reduce joint stress If you have access to a holistic vet, or one trained in acupuncture, chiropractic and acupuncture could be a big help in the healing. We did not go this route because our mastiff responded so well to the treatment plan we worked out. The Canine Cortaflex made a huge difference. You are supposed to use a loading dosage (double the maintenance dose) for just a week, but I did it for several months. Within 2 weeks Thor could get up and down easily and walked without limping. After six weeks he was ready to play with the younger mastiffs. We watched him carefully and about six weeks ago cut back the Rimadyl dosage. He's fine, wants to run and play, is ready to come up and down the stairs (which we do not permit) and has no problems getting up or lying down. I observe him carefully and can tell by the degree of extra movement in the knee how he is feeling and how much play, walking, etc. he can tolerate. Five months after diagnosis, our mastiff is doing well without surgery. Good luck, and give Hank a big hug from me!

I'm so sorry this is happening. Your friends will have my prayers.

I usually try not to be crude, but considering I just went to my friend's funeral, who died of cancer, I'm going to say this anyway. CANCER SUX!

I agree Sally. So many of my friends and family have experienced cancer, including many of my friends here. It does indeed suck. (sigh)

Linda, my thoughts and prayers are with Chrissy and Loyce and their friends and family for strength and healing and extra thoughts that their days be filled with peace and comfort.

Oh Linda what a tragic situation. I am sending strength and comfort to Chrissy and Loyce to endure what lies ahead. Each day is a gift however I hope her pain can be eased.

Update on Chrissy. She should get out of the hospital today, but before they'll release her she needs to decide if she wants to go thru another round of chemo and radiation or if she wants to just let the cancer take it's course. Either way the outcome is the same. I suppose the treatment may buy her a month or two.

A 37 year old should not have to make this kind of decision!

My heart is breaking for your friend Chrissy and her family. What an awful, awful thing for them all to go through.

My thoughts and prayers are with both Chrissy and Loyce.

Chrissy passed away last night around 9:30. She was a beautiful, vibrant, & loving mom, daughter and friend. She will be missed.

How very sad! Prayers for her children, family and you! Cancer is awful! I had a BIL in his 50's pass away a few years ago and he had a horrible struggle! Makes me sad,

Liinda, I am so sorry to hear of Chrissy's passing. As stated she was far too young but as I have learned, cancer has no favorites. My heart goes out to her family and you. God bless.
