I don't think I've ever seen an old attic which didn't have flooring--I'd bet that practice started after the war when so many houses needed to be built for returning vets, since most of those didn't have full-height attics. :) I find the beaverboard interesting, and I think that is what I removed from my basement ceiling--it only covered the part under the living room for some reason--maybe to keep stuff from the old coal furnace getting into the upstairs? My house was built in 1908, and yet, my attic has the original finish--lath and plaster! It was even papered, but I don't know the pattern since every scrap of wallpaper in the house was painted over at least once--the downstairs hall had at least three coats of paint and about 1/16" of paper!

I know you put some measurements in OP but would like to see next to something familiar for perspective?? You said a little more than a foot long and about 3.5 "circumference"?? Maybe diameter? That size circumference would be smaller than index finger to thumb "circle"??

I've got a lot of NuTone stuff in my house from that era. It is mostly bathroom exhaust fans and heater/exhaust fan/lights. One of them is a curious contraption that looked to me, earlier, to have a way to make it into an HVAC supply, possibly in a controlled manner . Now, I have some more info. Please forgive a little hijacking the thread Thanks for posting that link to the catalog, North Texan. I love that 50s ad stuff. I've got between 3 and 5 things out of that catalog in my house. First, some residual, nonworking intercom equipment. It looks like I have a 5000 series Hood-Fan in my kitchen with its dual squirrel cage blowers. Now that I know what the original lights looked like, I can take a close look at what the electrician/owner did when he hacked a 3' T12 luminaire in there. I've also got a "Fold-away" listed right under the 5000 series. The high wall mounted fan is probably a NuTone. I'll have to take a close look. The outside hood says NuTone and I feel it in my heart that it has a "patented no flutter shutter". I have, however, only a simple snap action switch ganged with a light switch in the same box. AMS, you want to sell your switch? I might be able to use it though I might need to pull some cable. Now, the bathroom heater-fan might be a close miss. My dampered outlet is definitely at the top rather than the side. Mine also appears to do more than this and the model number is different, longer. Maybe the longer number is an indication of added functionality. On the other hand, perhaps my was modified by the owner for top outlet. The bimetal spring might be what closes the (original) louvre. I love a mystery! So I found a post on Reddit saying it was a trademarked product invented by a company selling packaged foods on Amazon so that other sellers can't be attached to their listings for the same products. Indeed, the seller for all that came up with ”kokobunch kit” are being sold by ShoPpingPro LLC, and that same entity has a registered trademark for it. On the trademark application, it says, ”Serving tongs; Tongs for serving and spreading” and has the below picture. If you look at the product pictures for it on Amazon, they all have the little packet, in different colors. The packet shows spoon and fork heads in the logo, but the product itself seems just to be a bent slice of bamboo or similar, with a few gripper notches on the inside of the ends. Thank-you!
