How do you wash the dishes?

I just read the thread about dishwasher detergent and it got me thinking about doing the dishes. Of course, I put as many dishes, etc., as I can in the dishwasher. I wash the pots and pans under running water using a Dobie pad. I guess that kind of wastes water, but I like to have the water running to rinse them. I also don't like washing things in "used" water. Maybe if I had a double sink I fill one side to wash and use the other to rinse, but I don't have one.

I pile everything to be washed to the right of the sink, wash them under running water with detergent squirted onto the Dobie pad, rinse and pile them on a drainer thing to the left of the sink. Then they either get left to air dry if I am feeling lazy, or dried and put away.

My mom uses the same method but uses a microfiber cloth or a steel wool pad to do the washing. Once in awhile a relative will do the dishes and wash from left to right, instead of the usual right to left method! It feels all weird and backwards.
