50 Shades of Grey -- sort of

Are you all familiar with the book 50 Shades of Grey? It's been in the media a lot. If you know of it or have even read it, here's a video for you. In fact, even if you haven't heard of it, watch this video and you will get the idea.

I'm trying to borrow a copy from a friend who usually reads better stuff, we were at a wine class together on Monday night, and even she says (in front of the group) she can't put it down.

No I'm not going to give it a review here if I ever get it, I might get too graphic. Secret gardens and spatulas indeed! If Ellen can't say it, who am I to do so?

It isn't something I plan to read but I will very much look forward to Jessy's perspective on both the pancake recipe and the ball-peen hammer.

abbycat, see result of Google search in the link. They all come up with the same model, which looks identical to the one we have. We had a bad leak under this sink earlier this year and dithered about working on the bathroom at that time; finally decided just to get it fixed. The plumber wasn't too hopeful but was able to get it working again. A few weeks ago, the faucet was leaking and my DH tried to fix it, but the whole thing that connects to the plumbing behind the sink broke off. This time, we decided just to get the whole thing redone -- we don't want to mess around with plumbing leaks, and the cabinet is just about ready to fall apart anyway. Thus this discussion. just helped my mom pick cab colors for her hew house---she is doing BM white dove on all her outer cabs, and SW Classic French Gray as her island color. Its a darker gray that has just a hint of blue undertone. For reference, her granite is antique white and backsplash is a soft white porcelain and marble tile--so that's what we were matching to. cabs won't be installed for a couple more weeks, so no pics yet to share. she also played with SW dovetail, but it has a warm/brown undertone. If you want something that leans more blue, check SW African Gray. **no clue how any of those grays will play with repose though since it has so much tan in it.

Dunn Edwards sells stucco elastomeric paint, if that is an option in your area. I tested their regular paint quart sizes to pick colors and it matched perfectly when they made the formula in the 5 gallon elastomeric size.

Yeah, I was wondering about the bird cage, too. Jessy will have to let us know, unless I cave and read it.

Jessy, you will have to do your review in "Ellen-ese".

I guess people who haven't read a book in years -- or ever -- are reading this one.

I have a kindle....I am a member of Kindle Prime....I can be reading it in about 90 seconds if I want....at a cost of $9.99.
But I have read a 2 chapter preview and about 8 of the lower end reviews.....those that didn't think it was really "HOT"....
I suspect there is more cerebral girl porn out there.....

Hmmmm. I must be out of the loop, but I've never heard of it. A check with Amazon says it's a trilogy?

From the reviews and excerpts, I think I'll pass, it seems much like a "bodice ripper" romance novel, which I don't care for at all.

Oh Annie, I know the "no romance" is not true. I have proof -- Elery.

I haven't read it and probably won't. There are just soooo many other books I want to read. I'll wait for the inevitable movie, and then I'll only watch it on tv. I guess by that time all the interesting stuff will have been edited out.

Finished the book. Anyone regular CF members who want my humble opinion - email me and I'll add you to the list.

One thing I will say - I knew EL James was going to ruin 'Spem in Alium' for me at the beginning when he mentioned the Tallis group, We used to drive our one and only sports car around listening to that chorus piece, now it has a different...shade to it. Excuse the pun!

Thanks for the link Linda, I am still a paper print person. And I feel strongly that we need to support our libraries. But I might use that link to go looking for the 'strawberry' scene, LOL.

I read almost all of Thomas Hardy's novels (including Tess) when I was in high school and loved all of them, but I do not think I am part of the target audience for 50 Shades of Grey although I have been hearing a lot about it. I found it easy to identify with Thomas Hardy's characters (especially the tragic heroines) because of the rural settings. Tess was probably my favorite Hardy novel, and I like the movie they made of it, but the book is much better IMO. I also read a lot of William Faulkner in high school but did not identify with his characters as easily, even though they were Southern and rural. My other favorite novelist in high school was D.H. Lawrence, and I could identify with his characters also, which is a bit strange because I am not in any way English in heritage! I started reading German novels in college and found characters that were even easier to relate to, especially the ones from around 1800, although before 1800 most of what I read were plays. I still like to read plays.
