I got a job!

Okay, so it is only a casual position, but I look at it as my foot is in the door.

It's a Medical Secretary in the Physical Therapy department of the local hospital. Basically, filling in for vacation and sick days plus whatever other administrative tasks the manager may need help with.

I'll keep my casual position at the current hospital, but there are really very few hours to be had there right now. The economy has taken a toll on the radiology department there.

This hospital is 10 miles away (the other is 23). Pay is slightly less but still acceptable.

After the debacle with the last job offer I got, I am thrilled with this one. When I was given the tour of the department everyone seemed so happy and told me what a great place it was to work. Today after I spoke to HR and got all the details and set up training and start dates and all, my future manager called to welcome me on board and was so excited to get me started! WOW....that's all I can say about that!

Thanks to those of you that "talked me down" after the last fiasco. This really makes me believe that "everything happens for a reason".

(Now...all I have to do is pass the criminal background check....wish me luck...LOL)

I worked 2 days already, its great! yesterday was a snap but today I am wore out! Having to lean over the steam table and serve over 400 kids in my line can be back breaking. We had 2 accidents today. A light exploded on the steam table and the boss slipped & fell on the rubber mat. I think they are both fine now. I worked a little later today which is good too. Food now is a bit different and suppose to me healthier. The pizza has a whole wheat crust (not great & rather stiff) other changes come from your presidents wife M.O.

Here's the deal around here on teacher layoffs. Its a dirty little ploy done by the school authorties to manage the school budget and to circumvent the teacher's union work rules. Every spring, they lay off everyone except for few core tenured teachers and staff. That is done to deny those individuals tenure, thus they are not obligted to hire them back next fall. However, most of the laid off teachers do get job offers fot the next school term. This alloys the school adminstrators to pick who they want to keep next year and dismiss those they don't want without running afoul of union work rules. The new job offers do not always carry a raise from the year before. The adminstrators argue that their budgets and load for the fall term are not known at the close of the school year - Hah! Why do they try so hard to determine the next term's class size and demand pre-registration for the fall term? There is some merit to this argument in that the taxing bodies may not have decided the budget for the fall term by the close of the present school year. School Principals complain of getting caught in a budget trap if they don't use the 'lay-off' game as a hedge. So who gets hurt? The struggling newly minted teacher? The lay-off game distorts economic data and forcasting. It looks different in spring than in fall. The problem is, the laid-off teacher has no guarantee that he/she has a job next fall.

Ahh...Sherry...then they'd REALLY want to hire me! And probably pay me more! LOLOL!

So if my CF adventures don't come up in the criminal background check...I am inn like Flynn! Hahahaha!

Background check and they will make you pee in a cup, so I hope you've been cutting back on your drug use. Congratulations on getting a new position. I know first hand that hospitals are in bad shape at the moment. Now you are well positioned to step into a full time position at either place when one becomes available. I do hope you will be working with nice people, since that makes all the difference.

Pam, I really don't mind peeing in a cup, but I think it's funny that the cup has a "fill to" line. Like I can see that when the cup is...um...in position!LOL

Linda, congratulations! I think most of us are willing to work our tails off for a company that shows they want us as an employee, appreciate the efforts we give, and offer fair compensation. It sounds like you're off to a very good start. I hope it will evolve into a full time position, if that is still what you want.

Linda, now remember what I told you about that drug test. Drink lots of water and tell them you're a vegetarian when they ask about your creatinine levels. Oh, and take some aspirin and some B-complex. (grin) Hey, it's what our felons do, not that it works for them...

As for the background check, well, what happens in Chicago (or Michigan), stays there. Until it's beneficial for me to tell, LOL.

Congratulations, I knew something would happen and I hope this turns into full time soon, if it's as good to work for as it seems.

I have been in and out for a while so I missed the last fiasco.....but YIPPEE for this news.

Casual is usually a good start somewhere, so I will keep my fingers crossed that you get as many hours as you want.

Oh those pics from the PFPP! We all promised to keep things under the rug so to speak. LOL I see a coffee cup, diet coke, and orange juice.....yup, that all we drank that weekend. LOL! Those Smokey Mountains were a blast in more ways than one....I'll leave at that as WE ALL agreed...lololololol.

Congrats!

I don't know about you, but it doesn't really matter whether or not I can see that little "fill to" line or not. Ever since I had a couple of kids I can't stop that stream once it starts coming out, so even if I get to the line.........I ain't stoppin!!!

Thanks! I start on April 12. I think it will be a good move for me, but being it is casual...I will keep my casual position at my current job, also.
