Thanks for the explanation of your zoom, Claire. More information for camera shopping is always appreciated. We have finally had some warmer weather and so I went for a long walk yesterday down by the stream, through our far corn field (not visible from the house) and then through the next farm south which was an ornamental tree & sod farm at one point and is now returning to its roots as a food farm. I had been wondering where "our turkeys" had wandered off to and found evidence of them in several places: Crossing the stream From Jan 31, 2014 and then up to check out the manure piles in the field From Jan 31, 2014 but the real attraction seems to have been the ornamental crabs in the tree fields. There were lots of tracks in this area, but almost none around the other rows of trees. From Jan 31, 2014 Earlier in the week I had taken a quick ski around the corn field by the house and found tracks from fox and coyote as well as this little guy, perhaps a mouse based on the size and tail drag, where his track and the fox coincided. Hugs to all of you who are suffering. My knee that I broke is hurting because I am not walking like I used to because of the weather. I broke it slipping on ice and am not about to do that again just to get exercise. Going up and down the basement stairs to do laundry just about did me in because of the knee pain. I have swollen glands under my arms right now too that are a litte painful. Lydia, I know about that ovary pain and I am 51! I guess I will take it because all my friends are going through Menopause and are suffering more than I am. LOL Carol, let me tell you a little story about what happens when you swallow those raisins whole. LOLOL When my little niece Jennifer (now 34) was a toddler she ate some raisins. I had her on the change table the next day changing her diaper and she passed a little gas and out came a really plump looking golden grape. I was kind of shocked because she hadn't eaten any grapes then I remembered the bowl or raisins. LOL That little tiny raisin rehydrated itelf and came out as a grape. LOL I make sure I alway chew my raisins now. Poor Jenny will never live that story down. Anne

Good for you Jodi!! I thought it would be fun as well, working there. The little ones are just so funny! Did you notice how they seem to like the camera? I read on one of the comments, that the camera may not be on longer, because it's supposed to mimic the Antarctic, and soon it would be 12 hours of dark, so we wouldn't be able to see. Whether that's true or not, who knows.

I still watch AFRICAM on a daily basis. The elephants at Tembe are amazing. I introduced my two little sprites (who live next door) to Africam and they have infected their whole school with the enthusiasm over African animals. On a personal level, the littlest sprite will run over to ringringring the doorbell when there is something really cool to watch on "animalcam". No matter what time it is.

What's all that noise? Sounds like an elephant!
Seeing that makes you realize how very good the animation for Happy feet was.

that noise is how it sounds when penguins beg for food. Or talk to each other. something like that! When I went to see my friend in St Louis last summer, she and I were in the penguin area. I said, "OOOOO Look! They're close enough you could just pet them!" She tried to get me to do it. I wouldn't. But she just slipped her hand right over the wall as it glided by. "Ma'am, please step away from the penguins." (((smiles)))

Penguins fall into the "Too Dang Cute" category for sure.

Yes, they are "too dang cute". John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids has a penguin area. If you go there at the end of the day it stinks like crazy, I guess they clean it every night.

Rob, John Ball has a sting ray exhibit where you can buy food and feed the (stingless, I guess) rays from your hands. Petting is encouraged and they come right up to the top of the water for the food.
