Yeah, I got it too. Never woulda clicked the link except that it was from you! I figured right away you had some kind of a virus or hack going on but I also figured 256 people had already told you so I just deleted it and ignored it.

I have complete confidence in you so I figured the message had purpose. With that, I just thought it was meant for Raymond, then I saw it was an email blast and I was really confused.

Yeah, David, I got one last night. No thank you on the Viagra though. Somebody got your e-mail lists.

It may not be your computer. Someone may have stolen the address book on a friend's computer. But what a pain for you. Good luck figuring out a fix.

David, I just checked an found an email from you too. I deleted it w/o opening.

I have just spent hours trying to fix a problem with my desktop (unrelated to your problem).

It seems a Windows update last night made my computer totally crash. When I called Dell the tech support person I was the seventh called in a row that had the same error message. Because I could not boot up even in safemode, I had to wipe my hard drive and do a complete install of XP.

It's still formatting... tech is calling me back to finish.

I'm very lucky....I just got a new laptop (on it right now) and when it came I used a special cable to transfer all my files from the desktop to the laptop. So I still have all my files and pictures. Some programs even transferred over. Only things missing will be the new saved items from about the last month.

This is NOT how I planned on spending my day!!!

In my uneducated opinion, your computer is probably fine. Some online bot tried innumerable password combinations to get into your account. Change your password for your email account and I hope you see your 'delivery failure notices' slow to a trickle, then stop.

I did change my password and have sent out a few emails and nothing so far. Computer seems to be running fine as of now. My computer dude recieved this too, he will be over to check things out. Hopefully it was just a fluke or one time thing. Honestly, I'm clueless when it comes to all of this stuff. I don't even text on my cell phone. LOL

This has kind of freaked me out a little. I started paying bills online along with doing some banking. I just may go back to writing checks!!

If someone got all of my email addresses from a friends computer does that mean they have them forever now? I sure hope not. I guess we will see....I'll ask my computer guy to explain it to me in simple terms.

Bots aren't all bad. They perform all kinds of automated information-gathering functions. So if you go to a shopping comparison site to check prices on a waffle iron you want to buy, a bot will be searching out the information.

But Spambots (aka spider, crawler) gather email addresses to send spam to. There are viruses that infect computers specifically to steal address books and then forward all kinds of junk mail from those addresses.

Trojans can not be detected by most virus checkers, you need a separate program... Trojans and Viruses are two completely different things... I would suggest reading the article on the link at the end of this response.

ANYTIME you send mail to more than one person do yourself and all your friends a favor and use BCC: instead of the To: or CC: line.

For a better level of protection all your passwords should be 9 or more characters long and be a combinations of letters, numbers and/or symbols... ( i.e. Ri12ta34-O56tay ( capitals are good too ) )... And NEVER EVER use the same password on different accounts.

If you have any doubts, whatsoever, about links from your friends ask them if they really sent it to you BEFORE you click on it.
