Short stay in Raleigh NC

I will be visiting Raleigh NC on my way to visit the units in Florida...I'm looking for good pottery/arts and crafts and a homey restaurant. Please give me suggestions! Thanks! -maria

Maria, I live 2 hours from Raleigh and don't get there nearly as often as I'd like to! Somethings you may enjoy, Raleigh has an awesome farmer market!http://www.ncagr.gov/markets/facilities/markets/raleigh/

They have a very nice restaurant as well as everything food related!
My son is an excecutive chef at a restaurant in Apex, very short drive in the Raleigh area! It's called Peak City Grill

DD always takes me to Seagrove Pottery when we visit http://www.seagrovepotterygallery.com/ and as far as eating - Southern Seasons as Gina said is good and the walk through the store is great! Two big favorites of mine are NOFO @ The Pig http://www.nofo.com/tour_pig.php for shrimp and grits and Foster's Market http://www.fostersmarket.com/ where you can sit on a funky old glider andeat on the porch and don't forget to buy one of her cookbooks!

Next time you are in Raleigh, visit Pullen Park. There are (or were anyway) quite a few very tall Windmill palms there last time I was there but that was also about 8 years ago. If you google "pullen park palm trees" a good number of photos of them come up. When I was there there was also TONS of seedling windmills growing all over the place as well. So many people grow this palm from the mid Atlantic states, southward it would not shock me to see them start to naturalise in some areas especially from South Eastern Virginia southward. Maybe even in the DE/MD/NJ coastal areas as well. Nice pics! Thank you for sharing!

I live in the area also. I recommend checking out the city-data Raleigh/Durham forum there are lots of wonderful people there with good advice and tons of moving questions. I would suggest if you can to rent for a while in the area so you can travel around and see what you like and what your budget will do for you in each town. Clayton for example is very different from Chapel Hill as others have mentioned. I have lived in CH, Durham and Raleigh and there are perks to all 3. I currently live in a small suburb and love the quieter schools and feel. Good luck! This is a beautiful place to live. Today is gorgeous!
