Use the Internet to look up the terms you don't know. Lots of free tutorials online. That's what I had to do for the GRE. I actually knew how to so the "math" its the terms that make it sound scary!

Good luck, Linda. I am the worst at math. In high school I took Algebra I twice and I still flunked Algebra II. Later in college I took a remedial Algebra course and then managed to ace Alg. I. That was the end of my math career. I was a journalism major and graduated magna cum laude.

I did okay in Plane Geometry in HS, I think because it was more visual. Thank heavens for calculators.

I was doing OK in math until they went and added the alphabet to it. Sheesh.

Oh, believe me...I have looked at every online site I could find.

I am the type that needs someone to actually explain the method to me and then hold my hand until I get it right! LOL

Thankfully, this isn't for a grade or anything. It's just for placement since it has been 15 years since I set foot in a college classroom!

Just remember that it is not a test. Don't sweat it. If you don't ace it, no big deal. It just helps them figure you out. Good luck Linda.

Well, I scored 2 points lower than college level. This means I have to take one additional math class.

Not as bad as I was expecting, so I am happy!

I think that's great Linda! I aced all of my math, algebra, and geometry in high school years ago. I was worthless when it came to helping nephews with their school work years later....LOLOLOL

good for you, Linda, I probably wouldn't have done so well.

I hate math. I passed all my math/alegebra/geometry classes and promptly forgot it all, I've never used any of it in my adult life that I'm aware of. I don't even convert to metrics!

Good thing I got a job that requires reading and writing and not 'rithmetic!

Ashley, on the other hand, tested out of all her college math requirements. Good thing, I've never have been able to help her with her homework...

Linda, I know what you mean. When I took the placement test about 5 years ago I scored very low in the math section. I aced the reading and writing sections. I was so good at writing that the professor for the required freshman comp class gave me an automatic A after the first essay. He said just come back for the final and I was good to go. Math is another story... something that I loathe! I had to start with pre-algebra... which I barely passed with a C and that was with hours in the tutoring center! Then I failed beginning algebra 3 times due to this evil thing called factoring! Moved to intermediate and again barely passed with a C, and had to buy an 80 dollar calculator that was required for the class... the only button I know how to use is the power button! When I continue, I'll have to take college algebra which I'm not looking forward to.

Congrats on scoring so high... that's wonderful! I wish you success in going back to school... It's scary and exciting. I'll be doing the same soon!

I took advanced Calculus in college - math was my easiest subject, but calculus started to get hard, possibly because I was distracted.

I scored lowest on verbal aptitude on the college board exams, and yet I went to state finals in the "ready writing" competition, and so I don't think that particular test was accurate for me. Verbal aptitude tests are rely on interpretations, and I generally interpret things differently from most other people - at least that's what I've been told. Anyway, it seems that good math skills are not compatible with good verbal skills. However, I did graduate from university with a B.A. in German and English, and I've also learned Spanish, French, Russian, and Italian, and so my verbal skills can't be that bad. I don't pay much attention to test results.

Good luck with going back to college - I think that's always a good thing. I went back for a second degree when I was 35, and it was one of my best decisions. I really enjoyed it more the second time, and it was much easier for me. I loved going to the libraries to do research.

Well, at this point I just want to finish something. So I am going back to get my AA. I have 20 credits left.

If I decide to go on for a BA (at my age) I might consider business administration.

We'll see...one thing at a time.
