nasty nasty virus!!

Think the hard drive is toast....working with a teeny tiny borrowed lap top.,

No idea what it's called, but it comes up like it's trying to scan your computer for a virus...and if you click anything, it's off to the races....so if something like that suddenly appears on your screen....don't click close or pause or stor or even the X...hit "alt F4"...

This thing pulls up pop up after pop up and keeps loading a site called "porno.org"...

Be careful out there is't a jungle!....and I'll bescarce until I get the old box fixed.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm pretty cautious but I would have "Xed" out not Atl F4.

To be more precise, they resemble male DOG body parts. You've been growing a nice batch of one of the common stinkhorn fungi, Mutinus caninus. I call it the 'dog thingie' fungus. But then I've never been exactly what one could call lady-like, lol. Stinkhorns (there are many different kinds) are all important decomposers. These organisms are busily breaking down that new mulch for you, benefiting your plants and soil. Stinkhorns can be considered beneficial. No, you cannot spray anything to kill them. But keep them removed as they appear so that you won't be offended.

robeb's suggestion is ideal if you use or are willing to use Firefox. In fact, I do. But surprisingly(at least to me) I.E.'s new "Tracking Protection" feature allows subscribing to some of the same " block lists" that are available to AdBlockPlus users. (Click to view full-sized) BTW, you'd want to subscribe to either Easylist or Fanboy, one or the other, not both. Too many lists may slow you down.

I called the doctor this morning. My fever is down completely, and my cough isn't nearly as bad. But my chest feels so congested, my head is beyond stuffed, and my throat is still awful. I had to walk across the road to the barn this morning, and that little bit of exertion was enough get me out of breath and in a cold sweat. So I called the doctor. The nurse said I definitely need an antibiotic. I think she based this on the stuff I had been coughing up for the first four or five days. They'll probably give me Zithromyacin, which is what I was going to get for the Babesiosis before I came down with this. Zith has been in the news lately for causing heart attacks. Normally that would put me off, but the risk is low and I would like to get both these things cleared up, or at least improved, if possible. Thanks, all!

Hi all, I just signed in this one time to let you all know that I haven’t been around for the last couple months because I can’t get past The Gate Keeper—a/k/a, the BIG NASTY POPUP! When it first showed up, sometimes it wasn’t there, and that’s when I’d read and post. But for about two months now, EVERY SINGLE TIME I’ve tried to read even just one thread, it immediately blocks everything and keeps me from even scrolling further down on a thread to “get past it!” I don’t sign in, or stay signed in, to ANY site unless I need to be signed in to do something! I know that, apparently, both Safari and Opera do block it, even when you’re not signed in, but I refuse to “play games” just to be able to use a website! The only way we have to “vote” in this world seems to be with our dollars, and for a website, my “clicks” are my dollars, since sites count on the number of clicks they get to convince their advertisers that a lot of people are seeing the advertising. When the popup shows up, I immediately x out, and they don’t get any of my clicks! When a site makes it so nasty and/or inconvenient for me to use it that I don't want to be there, I just don't go there! When iVillage first took over GW they came up with some nasty popups, too, but (apparently) when their traffic went down, and/or when iV got enough complaints, they went away again! I keep hoping that enough people will complain about the Big Nasty, or that houzz’s “clicks” will go down enough that houzz, too, will make the (intelligent!) decision to get rid of it, but until (IF!) that happens, I won’t be around here! If that popup had been there the very first time I found GW, I would have x’ed out and never gone back to the site—and never found RMG! If this is the end for me, it’s a sad way for it to end! There were a couple threads I was planning to reply to—a couple months ago—when all of a sudden the Big Nasty was ALWAYS there and I couldn’t even read anymore! I do still usually check at least once a day to see if IT’S still there, so if it ever goes away, I’ll be back! I've been on RMG for eleven years now, and I HOPE this isn’t the end for me! Linda,

A colleague/friend of mine got this same virus and her hard drives was saved by our IT team.

So maybe there is hope. My friend said it was crazy.

Sorry to hear this Linda. Sure hope you get things fixed and are back to normal soon. I tried to fix some networking/router issues myself last weekend. Yup, it cost me a few bills to fix what I did trying to fix it. LOL!

I got a similar message on my laptop, followed by the blue screen of death. Laptop belongs to my employer, so I sent it off to the IT hospital, where they said the hard drive had gone to its final reward. So now I have a new hard drive, a laptop with a broken backspace key and none of the info that was on the hard drive.

Linda, sorry that happened to you. I got a nasty virus from Facebook in late December and ended up getting a new computer..it was that bad. I can't believe these ass**les have nothing better to do than wreak havock on decent people for no reason other than destruction. Sometimes my conspiracy brain wonders if they are not commissioned by major computer manufacturers to increase sales. Nothing would surprise me.

Sorry to hear of your problems Linda. I have the same question as Jessy. I hate to ask but you do have some type of security system on your PC? Did it not notify you that you had a virus and not quarantine it?

no idea where it came from...it seems to be very like the one found on People Walmart....but if iut was that it had delayed reaction.
Of course I had up to date hot stuff protection!!I am aware of "textually transmitted diseases"...but as the tech guy said on the antivirulk site said.....they change faster than we can catch up.

May I suggest you post on the Computer Help forum....if anything, maybe someone there will know more info to help those of us who aren't protected etc. Hope things get fixed!

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I'm sorry, though, I had some kind of nastiness on my old computer, fried the hard drive AND the mother board and made me get a new computer.

Pah. Makes you just want to choke someone.
