Jim likes to get his underwear at Costco. Good quality. He gets his t-shirts at Penney's, where they carry a couple of different lines, the best is Stafford (or something like that.)

DH wears only Jockey briefs. I don't know if he thinks they are the best or if he just wants to grab a package and be done with shopping? Whatever, they do seem to last a reasonable time. I don't buy them so I have no idea of the cost/value thing.

Staffords from Penneys is good, and I recommend boxer briefs with short legs instead of just briefs. Target has several good brands, but you have to check the sizes carefully - they vary by brand. I used to buy Joe Boxer, but I don't know where they sell them anymore, except Kmart, and that is not in my neighborhood. If you are going to just one store, Target may have the biggest selection, but other stores like Kohls are also good.

My new favorite underwear are made of a stretchy bamboo fabric, cut as boxer-briefs (meaning, distinct legs, but not baggy).

I can't find the particular brand online, I think they are a local maker. The closest thing I can find online are "Bamboxers Briefs", they actually look very similar. Link is below, click on Bamboxers Briefs not on Bamboxers

The ones I have wear "cooler" than standard cotton briefs, the elastic band is wider/more comfortable and seems longer-lasting, and let's not even mention the silky feel and no visible panty lines . . . I think you could try him out with one or two pairs.

My son likes the boxers from Banana Republic. He watches for sales since they are pricey. They fit a little closer than swing easies but not nearly as tight as tightie whities. He'd kill me if he knew I was posting this.

A young man I have known for 22 years (ahem, Pam) also likes boxer briefs. I used to buy Fruit of the Loom brand as they seemed to hold up fairly well for an inexpensive brand. And I didn't expect them to last forever, anyway. He buys his own skivvies now and has possibly upgraded.

But for a Valentine gift, even as a joke, I'd spring for something nicer per Pam or John.

Boxer briefs?! You've got to be kidding. BF is very conservative, just plain old briefs. Bamboo, what's that, lol! I love him dearly but he really is a total stick in the mud! I want some bamboo underwear though! :)
Unfortunately we don't have Costco but we do have Kohls and Target and Penny's. Last time we were in Sears we just didn't know what brand to get, something quality. Hard to say these days. Same with women's underwear, IMHO. I might have to go online, which will be no good for Valentine's.

Jockey makes JKY boxer briefs which I like because they are 95% cotton and 5% spandex, making them very cool and comfortable.

Well I looked in his underwear drawer this AM and the ones he wears most are Haines. I've had good luck with Jockey as far as durability. I bought some Fruit of the Loom last year at Walmart, they just fell apart in the wash. The ones that we didn't like were Covington, got them at Sears. BF works outside a lot and often wears long underwear in the winter, plus heavy jeans. I think that's why he is a "briefs" guy--no worries about panty lines, lol!

I have a bamboo bra and it is very comfortable which is why I would like some bamboo underwear. I have seen them. I would like to get some of the nicer underwear that I have seen in catalogs and on line, but up until now I could not afford them. I've always gone for something middle of the road in price but I too am guilty of wearing "ratty" underwear most of the time. I just can't seem to find anything I like in stores. Maybe online is the solution, I know there are some specialty shops that sell green fabrics and fine linens. I have to have natural fabrics, polyester makes my skin itchy. But a little spandex is great for durability. That's the kind of outdoor clothes I wear a lot. I wish I could buy underwear at stores like REI and LL Bean, that's an important part of your active life as well. This summer I was working outside in the 90+ degree heat every day and I had to get special "wick away" bras otherwise I felt like I was working in a sauna! Even they were only marginally helpful, but again, I couldn't afford the really high end ones.

Well I looked at those bamboo boxer briefs and I liked them but I know they are too much of a "new paradigm" for BF. For women all they had were "thongs" otherwise known as "underwear designed especially to be uncomfortable."

I see by doing a little Googling that Jockey sells underwear that is a rayon mix for $9.00 a piece, and I could get some really sexy organic bamboo cotton ones for $27.00 a piece. But that's for me, lol! It seems like the traditional men's brief cuts are harder to find in a bamboo cotton mix. I might be able to get BF to try those. But I would like to maybe get him something traditional yet a little higher end, like Sushipup says.

It's been a while since I've purchased skivvies for any menfolk. Maybe it was Fruit of the Loom teeshirts that were better made. Naomi & Nicole stopped making my favorite underwear a few years ago. I was bummed. It was the only brand/style I own. And I own a lot of them. They were well made and durable and comfortable. Now I have to start all over again in searching for undies. I hate clothes shopping and underthings are the worst.

I used to make my own underwear (It's extremely easy) because I wanted it to be mercerized Swiss cotton, and the ready-made ones were $35 each (at Fred Segal's). I made T-shirts also because the mercerized cotton felt so nice, but they wore out fairly quickly, and the fabric was fairly expensive. I also made leather underwear, and that never wore out, unless I used elastic instead of snaps.

Sometimes I wish I was good with a sewing machine because it seems like making your own clothes is the only way to find what you like and the quality you want. That will never happen though, I haven't the time or inclination for it. I've tried many times to learn to sew but it just isn't my thing, sadly. I agree with Eileen, I loathe clothes shopping for the very reason that it is so dang hard to find something that fits well, is well made and is reasonably priced. I don't want to buy cheap clothes but the expensive items are often little better in terms of fit and quality. Underwear is absolutely the worst shopping experience, which is probably why both BF and I put it off! BF and I tried to go shopping for clothes after Christmas, and after spending most of the day and trying on dozens of things, I came home with one shirt, and what I had been looking for was pants, skirts and shoes! I perused the underwear a bit, good cotton stuff is getting almost impossible to find. Well, that's on the female side, don't know about the male side but I suspect it is similar. My favorite "ugh" thing are the shirts that you pay extra for that are made of flimsy fabric and made to look worn out! We both got a laugh out of those, they sell them for both sexes! We even saw some of those kinds of things in a high end baby clothing store. You never can tell what some people will buy.

Pink, Jockey carries 100% cotton in bras and panties. I was looking for my mom, but I asked for my aunt, as that is all she can wear. If you get on thier e-mailing list they will send you coupons, or sales info. Good for in store at the outlets or online. It's the only place I can find any that even come close to fitting mom. She is very hard to fit. And can't take her shopping for them anymore.

I know this is a little late, but my boys like the Haines briefs with the "comfort" waistband. They are a little more expensive, but they do look more comfy. One of my kids wears boxer briefs, one wears boxers, and DH wears briefs.

OMG after doing some Web browsing it seems that men's underwear is just as variable and hard to shop for as women's. I couldn't see buying a brand with a huge logo of the company on the waistband either, talk about conspicuous branding! I know underwear fit and fabric is highly personal so I guess I should just stay out of it for my own good. Besides, I couldn't find any with big red lips on them or hearts so to heck with it! :) Bottom line, I ended up ordering some bamboo ones for myself! :)

Seems like bamboo underwear would be terribly uncomfortable. Won't you get splinters?

When I got my first email in 1995, the first thing I wanted to do was order underwear on line from JCP because I knew exactly what I wanted and didn't want to have to go to the mall just to get underwear. Well, in 1995, JCP's web site did not work all that well, and I was unable to order anything. Today I prefer to go to the store and pick up the underwear because they may have something new that I like, but in 1995, there were fewer choices. In 1955, there were very few choices at all, but by 1965, some variety started to become available.

My mother used to get a Spiegel catalog from Chicago, and it always had interesting winter clothes for boys, but they were pretty impractical for southern Texas. I loved the layered look as a child, but was seldom able to wear that many layers without getting overly hot.

Im late but my men and my boys only wear Clavin Klien...expensive..but take a licking and keep on ticken! Marshalls carrys them at half the price of Macy but I buy them and never have a problem with briefs (the ol man) and boxers for the young lads about town LOL

I think your boyfriend is a lucky guy to have you for a girl friend and I hope he appreciates you. For Valentines day (or Christmas or his birth day) you should buy the underwear that you want to see him in. What do you prefer? Boxers or briefs? And tell him you want him to wear it because it makes you desire him more. If you want around Valentines day you can find both boxers and briefs with hearts on them.
For every day wear Sears own brand of mens' briefs is well constructed with good elastic. The most famous national brand is Jockey which you can buy at any department store. Calvin Klein are better, at least in my opinion. You can go up scale and you can spend a lot more. But the traditional brands are good quality and rugged. Be sure to the the right size.
Finally, women wear underwear to please us men. And we should do the same. If you like color in his underwear get him some colored briefs to wear around you and don't forget a matching undershirt that you want, such as a sleveless athletic shirt to match the briefs you brought him (which match the color of his eyes). He ought to love them and love you for buying them.
