Hi all, I was an active member of this forum for a few years,
now I'm mostly a lurker. Some will remember me, some not.
I follow all your recipe and photo posts, and your swaps!
I REALLy miss the swaps! Was as much fun creating a swap box as it was getting one. Who doesn't love to get packages in the mail? Love seeing what you all received in the recent swap!
I just wanted to personally/publicky thank a true gem on your forum. Ann T!
I'm a board member for a farmer's market, and we are hosting a long table dinner for a fundriaser, as we are a fairly new market, and not self sustainable yet.
For our dinner we need silent auction items. I haven't been on this forum in years and yet reached out to Ann for a donation of one of their beautifully crafted boards. She most generously agreed to donate! Having not heard from me for years, and really not even knowing me that well personally, this touches me beyond words! She has been a huge innpiration to me and one of the reasons I keep lurking on the forum. Amazing in so many things (cooking, photography, entertaining,and thoughtfullness). I'll never forget the time I was struggling with making tortillas, and she personally phoned me at home to give me a verbal lesson! Thank you so much Ann, for your kindness and thoughtfullness! I hope you all realize what a gem you have in your midst! If she tries to leave, you better hog tie her to the forum :)! Just wanted to share. So many kind deeds go unnoticed, and I don't think they should:)

Welcome back ssommerville, and yes I remember you!

Ann is very generous with her knowledge and contributions to this forum.

Organizing the swaps is one example.

It does not surprise me that she would donate a cutting board to help raise money for your fledgling farmers market. Good luck with that fund raiser.

I found a knife in my garden, I assume it was left by the previous gardener. It is a wicked looking maybe a skinning type of knife, so any other thought is just too scarey. I may use it to deadhead my hostas (for HVX prevention)--a lot easier to sterilize than a pruner. I didn't learn it this year, but have been reading and thinking about the lasagne garden mentioned here and I finally tried it--nothing like actually doing it. Re cosmos: I saw my first doubles and bicolors at the Renaisance Festival and first dwarfs at the club. Oh and, Tom mentioned a little side curve off my straight walk & a fountain/bench- the thought excites me, we'll see about the finances. Of couse, I probably could build a fountain or as I look out my study window, I have a b bath and tall sturdy feeder where I want the little curve, Maybe add the curve to incorporate them, a few posies, a bench, maybe a pot and I think it would be charming--if I do say so... Sorry, I just noticed you said "gem" not gems. gramma jan

This is turning out to be a fun post, I love hearing what you guys are doing. Or not. :o) swest, your comments were great. I am always sad to take my decor down too, the house just feels so "empty" when Christmas is over, and even a bit sad. The last few years I broke the old habit of packing stuff up after New Year's and waiting till after Little Christmas on Jan 12 to do it. Much better :o) Party, your weather sounds horrid. You living in Alaska??? Wish I could share mine with you, this is our perfect time of year, when the heat is finally gone. Its in the low 70's right now. Tho hard to feel Christmas spirit living in Phoenix where everything stays so green.(but 2 hrs from me, AZ does get weather like yours if anyone is inclined to be in it) I agree, its fun to change the decor around each year and do different things. Tho this year, my head doesn't want to get into it very well unfortunately. So a lot of mine is a repeat from last year. In fact its almost embarrassing that my entry way is the same for the 3rd time!! But just seems the perfect place for my big wreath with all the purple decorations on it, and my big mercury glass deer. I tried to make myself change it out but ended up with the same ol' look. And the other big wreath I made is over the fireplace mantel again in the family-room. If any of you remember some of my last year's decor, you are going to recognize a lot is the same this time. Sorry about that. PUNK, yes its much easier to NOT change things around... and right now that is what I have to go with. But I think you'd not like repeating stuff each year. You're too creative! Thank you for thinking of me with the rocking Nutcrackers. Because of you, I got a big one last year!! And have 2 or 3 small ones. All are now together on the living-room hearth. :o) You found some neat goodies, Jeannie. And you know, you're right about thinking of others here when we are unpacking our stuff. Certain things bring so many of you to mind, and it makes me smile thinking about you as I decorate with them. Any woodland stuff I have always is with you in mind, Jeanne. And snowmen have Luvs name all over them, know they are her favorites. Bears for Kirk of course. And so on.....! But I hadn't even really thought about this part till you put it into words. And now I'm sitting here smiling knowing as I unpack more, I'll have many of you there in the room with me. :o) How wonderful, I'm not alone afterall !! Nana and Fun2, I'm so sorry you have to add STAIRS to your list of dreaded things. Gosh, I'd seriously be unable to store stuff like you do. I always thought it would be great to have a basement or attic.....living in Phoenix, its something people just don't have as a rule. But hauling bins and totes up and down, ugh. (actually now I am physically unable to do stairs as my right knee collapses on me.) I have a small storage shed in the backyard around the side of the house. But it doesn't hold much, so my stuff is all over the place which makes me feel disorganized no matter how much I mark bins or make lists. And I still 'lose' things, LOL. Tho I do know many of you do that too, so I'm in good company. I didn't get much done today, my legs rebelled from Thurs night and Friday. Like Fun2 just said tho.... " I want to enjoy my decorating, so I am going slowly and taking pleasure in each vignette. There will be less, but I will enjoy it to the fullest." hugs, Karen

Have you considered putting it int the corner? I don't know if the room would lend itself to that, but it does keep it from intruding into the room so much. Just a thought! I love our raised fireplace in our master bedroom because it is a focal point of the room and we can see it from the bed... Great on a cold, snowy night! We are about to start renovating our kitchen (and opening it up more to the dining room), and last night I came up with the idea of putting a raised hearth gas fireplace in the dining room. My husband likes the idea, but is hoping I'll stop thinking up more ways to bust the budget!

I've always had wood and I prefer wood on the inside. As we've replaced windows in our current 35 year old house, we've gone with wood interior/aluminum clad exterior. A number of the windows in our house that were a higher quality brand are still holding up well 35 years later - wood interior and exterior - under pretty extreme climate in MN. The ones we've replaced were lower quality sliders - and one that leaked due to a structural change that wasn't done right. Otherwise I've not had any problem with wood windows in this house. I've had problems in other homes with lower quality windows - that really went south when the prior owners didn't keep up with painting the exterior. In all things I prefer stained wood vs. painted wood or vinyl - just what I like. I have a friend who built a new house - pretty expensive one - and insisted on vinyl windows. So she has this lovely home with nice stained woodwork - and white windows. Doesn't look good in my opinion. And all this done because of condensation on the windows in her previous new home - which was probably the result of other problems completely unrelated to the windows. With the air exchanger in her new house she probably wouldn't have had any of that condensation problem.

I remember you of course, because you were my swap partner! Fun. Yes, we are lucky to have our Ann T. She's been amazing about sharing all her recipes and cooking wisdom. How nice that she donated to you. I am sure that farmers markets are important to her, too.

And thank Moe! He is the artist behind those boards. Ann just keeps him fueled.

Agreed! Ann has virtually held my hand through a number of recipes. And having seen her cutting boards in person, I can tell you that they are works of art.

I'm glad to see you back too, SSommerville and you are right, Ann has helped and helped and helped so many of us here. There have been days that I couldn't even keep track of the number of times we exchanged phone calls. Ann, even beyond helping, you are an inspiration and a wonderful friend. It always makes me smile to read about you and Moe and Matt.

And lucky for all of us, there are many wonderful, helping, people on the CF.

Yes, Ann is a treasure and we sure know it. I am keenly aware of her contributions and the overall benefit that Ann's presence imparts. It's too long to reiterate right at this moment.

I've been meaning to post (with pics) but it's been so long since I've posted pics to this website I can't remember how :(

What I didn't tell you was, when Ann sent the donation item for the auction, which she had said would be a magnetic knife holder (which I was already over the moon about), because for one I wasn't an active member of this forum for quite a while, (so not sure she would even remember me, and even more thrilled when she did and agreed to donate to our silent auction), but two, the craftmanship on their work is just so amazing, I was thrilled they were willing to donate!

Well...when I received the package, which was somewhat of an excercise in patience and skill in opening! To my surpise and delight, not only did Ann and Moe donate a beautifully crafted magnetic knife board...but..they donated an equally beautifully crafted cutting board!!!
She also sent me a package of her amazing custom food photo note cards (for me, not the auction)! All that and the personal note she sent, brought tears to my eyes, litterally!

Anne, could of just blown off my email (as many other people I asked for donations from, who know me far better than Ann does, did), but she didn't. And she donated very expensive items to a relative unknown, just because I asked and then she sent something for me as well!

I don't have enough words, or thanks to let Ann and Moe, and everyone else know how much their generosity and kindness has touched and affected me. Not just with the Langley Farmers Market Donation, but on a personal level as well.

So thanks again Ann and Moe. (I have taken pictures of the boards and once I figure out how top post them again I will, though the pics don't do the actual items justice)!

Our Langley Farmer's Market and Long Table Silent Auction is on Monday the 25th (March). I will let everyone know how it went!

Oh Shelley, you are so very welcome. I've always loved farmers markets so both Moe and I are happy to support the Langley Farmer's Market.
