All,

My mother has been ill and is frail. Nursing home bound. She and I ( and DH) live far from my siblings and my wonderful niece and nephews. My mom decided this Christmas to give her grandchildren the gift of a trip to see her. Wonderful idea.

They all came this weekend. It was wonderful and wild. Unfortunately, my 3 adult children were just at home at Christmas and did not join the party.

Anyway, I had 11 houseguests and I cooked and loved it.

And so, I realize I should and must thank and give credit to this forum and my teachers.

First (Friday) night - pizza, salad and cheesecake from an old friend's recipe. Simple.

Second night Bouef bourguignon (Julia's). I think Ann T.Âs is better but I could abuse Julia's better. Thanks for the knowledge and experience. Dessert- Ann T's tiramisu.

Third night - Eileen's Sunday gravy and a second round of cheesecake.

I showed them all so many recipes I have received and used from all of you. It made me realize that since 2005 I have changed so much as a cook and have so very much in my crazy recipe pantry.

Lot's of cooking talk. My brother wanted to know how I found these friends. THANK You!

I am so much smarter since I found you all.

Oh, Adele, what a wonderful weekend you ahd with family. I am sorry to read about your Mom though. Hang in there and enjoy her as you can.

Your last line said what so many of us here feel and know. And we keep on getting smarter the more we share.

Its a hybrid Echeveria. Can't tell you which one. Looks like it has a little E. subridgida in it. if there is a grower name on the label you might be able to contact them and ask.

Oh, Adele! Sending warm hugs to your wonderful mom. What a wonderful gift both for her and for the grandkids!

You are so right! I am so much smarter and so much more blessed by the friends I have here. And I have become a much more adventurous cook, too! LOL

Adele - what a lovely post! I am so glad most of your family was able to get together and see your mom and share some great meals. And yes, we are so lucky to have each other on this forum! And hugs to your mom.

Adele, what a great gift your mom gave her grandchildren. It must have been a wonderful weekend having everyone together like that.

I think many of us here have changed (for the better) as cooks because of this forum. We have a big sign at work that makes me think of the forum. It says:
"None of us is as smart as all of us."
We all learn from each other.
Sorry to hear about you Mom. It was so nice of you to host the get-together. Just what she needed.

Oh Adele, I'm sorry to hear about your mother, but what a perfect weekend for her and for your family. Hug her once for me too, please.

This forum has provided me with some of the best friends I've ever had and I've greatly grown as a cook in my time here.

I like Sherry's sign "None of us is as smart as all of us", it's very true.

And I'm also happy to see you back, welcome home.

Your post brightened my day. Your family sounds lovely and your mom gave the best gift of all. I am sorry to hear that she is having a rough time. Don't be afraid to lean on the rest of us for help during the rough spots. Really, that is why we are here. Cooking is often secondary.

Sounds like a great time Adele. Good to see you back posting swap partner!! I use those appy plates and server all the time and I still have my Crown Buckle too.

The situation with my mom was a nightmare, better now. I am kind of the silent type in crisis.
