Supply and demand is all. It's shocking. People have not shed their buying unnecessary things on credit behavior of the go-go recent past either. If folks want something, they won't forego it, even if they have to pay interest for it. I'd love to see some of these acts but gahhhh. That's a round-trip air ticket.

What Gina said, supply/demand. I don't find it all that shocking. It's a legendary band (yes, with DLR) and consider the demographic that's interested - we're not talking kids spending their allowance here. The kids can still find plenty of shows to go to starting at around $15.

I'm more bothered by the cost of a hot dog at the baseball game!

One time I paid over $400 for two tickets to a Simon & Garfunkel Reunion tour. It was fun, but we were still not up close. The best part about the show was that The Everly Brothers also performed. They were fantastic and so full of energy.

I would never pay that much for concert tix again.

I went to see The Crystal Method at the Mayan Theater here in L.A. about 10 years ago, and the tickets were around $20, as I remember. That's what I paid for concerts at the Greek Theater and the John Anson Fort Amphitheater, where I saw David Byrne, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Killing Joke, etc. I tried to get tickets to see Air, but they sold out too quickly.

I guess prices have really gone up in the past decade - possibly due to stage show production costs. I remember going to free concerts in San Francisco at Golden Gate Park (Grateful Dead and Jefferson Starship) and Dolores Park (the Dead Kennedys). I used to live just down the street from Jello Biafra of DK, and we were both a block and a half from Dolores Park. Before that I lived next door to The Tubes.

One of our clients hired Rod Stewart for $750,000 to play for her son's Bar Mitzva.

I won't be coughing up $300-500 a ticket to see them, David Lee Roth or not!

Hi Linda, I go to a lot of concerts and those prices didn't look right to me so I looked it up.

I saw them with David Lee Roth a couple of years ago when he first got back with them. The show was good but his voice was weak so he made them turn up everything else and the sound was off. Way off.

Back to the tickets. I know they set their date for FL but I didn't get an email yet from ticketmaster about the tickets going on sale so I went to tickemaster.com to look. They are not on sale yet for FL or MN. Where you see the link to look for tickets, underneath it states "partner site". You are being directed to a reseller selling packages. Not true concert ticket prices. I checked another venue I know where they are actually on sale. Madison Square Garden in NYC is selling tickets from 49.50 to 149.50 plus fees. That is what I expect to see in FL and MN when the general tickets go on sale. You can sign up for notifications from ticketmaster about your favorite bands or your favorite venue. Then they will give you a heads up and the date and time the the general tickets go on sale, usually Fri or Sat at 10am.

Hope this info helps you find great "cheap seats". The band is worth it even if David is "off". LOL Just please don't pay those prices you were quoted.

I heard something about this on the radio the other day on my daily commute. Concert tour costs used to be supplemented by the record or CD sales that accompanied them, concerts were seen as vehicles to promote album sales. But since such things have substantially dried up, more of the concert costs are being passed on to the consumer. It's becoming a real problem for artists, since only a few big names can fill a large venue anymore. It's affecting how much new music get's a foot in the door of mass popularity. Blame it on the 'Net!

Joanm, I found these ticket prices on Stub Hub. Doesn't say anything anywhere about it being a package of any kind.

How can the tickets not be on sale if I can choose my seats and purchase on Stub Hub? I don't get it.

Hi Linda, I don't buy from stubhub but my coworker does, as well as ebay. She usually does that for sporting events since we both get all the emails when the concerts go on sale. I'll ask her if they are preselling. What I have read in my research is that they do in deed presale.

Your question did send me on a mission because I didn't have the answer. Van Halen has no website to speak of and Live Nation and Ticket Master only list VIP packages for both our venues. They annouced the dates just recently and under my date of 04/10 it says TBD. Ticket master will list the shows once they have a date that the tickets will be in sale. It appears that they are releasing some VIP packages right now that will ship in April BUT Stub Hub shows specfic seats for each venue. It does not state when you would get you tickets so I clicked through the buy process a bit to see if there was a warning, but nothing obvious. To compare I clicked on NY which I know is on sale, and the stubhub website site shows as bold as can be "Electronic Delivery Available Immediately". Based on this, I still think I am right and they are not on sale yet. If you set up an account with ticketmaster, I bet you can score $49 seats when they are released.

I'll check with my friend on Tues and I will let you know when they go on sale in FL.

Hope you are still checking this thread. They just announced the "on sale" date for MN. Go to tickemaster and you will see that the tickets for your venue go onsale to the general public on Sat, 01/28/12 10:00 AM CST

You will be able to gets tickets for $47.50 if you are ready when they go on sale. Once you put them in your shopping cart they give you 15 minutes to finish the sale or else they release those seats and you have to start over. I usually sign on before hand so I don't ever time out. Decide how much you want to spend before hand and then select best avaiable at that price (unless they are letting you use the choose your seat feature, always preferable)

They are also listing an American Express presale that starts on 01/23 but my experience with those limited presales is that not all seats are available. I bought them once during a credit card presale and then on the day that the tickets went on sale to the general public better seats were available. Needless to say, I don't do presales anymore.

Good luck and I hope you get to enjoy the show. I am still waiting for the release date for my area. They have the "on sale" date for Orlando but not West Palm Beach yet. I hope I was able to help you navigate the new online world of concert ticket sales.
