We lost dad this morning. Congestive heart failure in the end. It started with pneumonia and fluid. Hospice was great.

I'm so sorry. I won't say i know your pain, because i don't, but i have also lost my father suddenly. two weeks ago today i found him in his truck. The medical examiner said it was a massive heart attack. I never and i don't think he knew either that anything was wrong. I love my dad so much! He was the greatest dad ever. He taught me how to fish, hunt, play golf, and anything else i wanted to learn. When i grew up (i'm 34), he was still my favority fishing buddy and golf partner. I can't tell you all the good my dad did for our community. I was so proud of who my dad was, and would brag about him to my friends all the time. he was a great man. Now i can't even think of fishing again, or playing golf. I know he would tell me to go and have fun, but i don't want to. I just want my dad back. I feel cheated. I should have been there, my dad should have never been alone when he went. It probably wouldn't have mattered, but at least ... i maybe could have comforted him in some way. I hope that he wasn't scared or hurting badly. God, why? the weekend before he left us, we were suppose to go fishing, but it poured down the rain. my question is if God knew he was going to take my dad, why couldn't i have that last trip. i know that's selfish, but that's how i feel. I miss him so much. I still need him. Just the other day i said to myself, "dad would know what to do here" and started to call his cell phone, only to realize that it was on the table beside of me. I love you dad, just want you to come home.

That is wrong location for a weeping mulberry. Once it's grown some larger, its branches could not weep to the ground, or even low, without blocking the house, drive and walk. Plus, there's another large tree nearby so there will eventually be spatial conflict. Relocate it while you still can. BTW, if weeping trees are going to weep to the ground (as one suggested) the front yard, unless it is a large "estate-type" lawn, is not going to work. Along the side or back of the back yard would be a better place.

Hi s y, I can't say how much I love this space! It's been amazing, but there are a few irritations that I need to remedy. One big one is the fact that it's detached from my house, with no good covered pathway between the two. I often find myself jumping out of bed because I forgot to lock things up, which isn't bad in the summer, but during Oregon's rainy season, well you can imagine. :) I'm researching solutions that will allow me to remotely control the door lock, heater, music and lights. I'm looking closely at the Brilliant Smart Home solutions. Agree with primer. The current wall colors will reflect on samples and skew your color assessment. And taking out carpet. Even if you plan to go with more carpet, you can find a better color in something that’s not too expensive and have a great fresh start. Do you have a collection of favorite bedroom decor pictures— color themes especially. What bedding, as noted above, is your favorite look? All white & fluffy, with color on walls and elsewhere, or vice versa with a rich or cheerful print and coordinated walls? Or layered soothing neutrals? So what color floor treatment works with that to keep the room light enough or moody but not a charcoal cave? The reason for not just leaping into wall paint color is because you have infinite paint color choices but fewer flooring and even fabrics, so you use those as guides for paint swatches. I think of the flooring/ carpet decision or direction first , or at least recognizing how it works with walls, because— if you live darker wall colors you may need lighter carpet for contrast, or if you know you don’t want upkeep of light creamy carpet but prefer a camouflaging darker or tweedy carpet then you might pull paint color as a lighter contrast. Or if you plan wood flooring there’s the color and degree of “ warmth” and golden tones that might be present. Sure, you don’t have to be so ticky, but then you may find, my comforter doesn’t look good with my walls. White walls are KINDA an exception, except, not, if you want warm creamy bedding and rich brown wood furniture and choose an icy white, or want pale grayish blue carpet and have painted your walls a buttery white. But unless you are going for a very challenging color scheme, it won’t be that hard. I love blue& white bedrooms but still have to understand, hmmm, blues that run more aqua vs gray- blues or purply. I think you are smart to start with bedroom because it can be “ stand-alone”, does not have to be part of a whole- house color or style scheme, just clean & restful/fresh- feeling. And by same token, is easier to change up down the road if you want a new color or bedding, so today’s decisions don’t lock you in forever, so able to make some choices without using up all your decision- strength that is needed to keep going on furthest projects.

Losing a parent is hard. I'm so sorry for your loss, Tami. Many wonderful, caring, and compassionate people work for Hospice providers across the country. They were also so helpful when we lost my FIL. I'm glad they were available for your Dad and the whole family.

I'm so sorry, Tami. January is one of those months that seems to be the time to go. I lost my dad in January, but that was back in 1982. Doesn't seem that long ago. My heart goes out to you at this difficult time.

Hospice was wonderful with my mother. There's not enough good words to say about them.

I'm sorry about what you are going through. I share your grief because I lost my dad about a year ago and my brother several years ago. I have a lot of unfinished business with both of them -- memories and reminiscences to share, questions only they could answer, reactions to day-by-day events, etc. -- which can never be completed.

We have to make the best of what they left with us.

Thank you all so much. Dad was a hard worker. He ran heavy equipment for a living, so he plowed snow, dug ditches, ect. Prepped the sites for building stores and shopping complexes..... His hobbies were camping and playing with the old antique hit and miss gas engines, which he passed the love of on to the rest of us. We have our own trailer load and showed with him for years. He loved to tease the waitresses when they went out. And he kept that to the end with his nurses and techs. Fri night about 10:30 the tech came in to check on him and empty his Folley bag. She checked on him, got the container to empty into, checked him, and bent over to empty his bag. As soon as she bent over, he opened his eyes, and said "Caught you" and closed his eyes again! She about lost it! Then she laughed and said it was a good thing she hadn't opened the clip yet or the whole room would have worn it! Later, when she came back in I asked her if she still wanted to work night shift. She laughed again, and said "Let's just put it like this. It was a quick trip to the rest room with a clean up on isle 3!" She was a sweetheart. They all were. And we made sure they knew how much it was appreciated.

Today, I played. DS is getting married in Oct. DD & I took the bride to be looking at dresses. It was a great day, and a good distraction. It hasn't hit yet, and will probably hit really hard when it does. I am trying to keep to a fairly normal schedule right now. Tomorrow, my kids and I are going to go thru photos and put together something for the funeral. It's gonna be a serveral box tissue day, but a good day. The 3 grandsons are going to be Pall bearers, along with a cousin of dad's that he was close to, and my 2 brothers. Perfect.

I'm so sorry Tami. It's hard to get to a place of peace when it comes to our parents leaving us.

Enjoy the upcoming wedding and planning. That's what your father would want you to do.

Very sorry to read of your dad's passing Tami. He sounds like quite the character. I'm sure you will miss him but remembering the good times you had will hopefully take away some of the pain you are feeling. NancyLouise

Thank you all. Nancylouise, yes, dad could be a character! He enjoyed teasing his waitresses, and others. If he didn't pick on you, you could be pretty sure you weren't a favorite. My kids and I went thru photos today. I'm getting together a slide show for the funeral. The memories were a good thing.

Your dad sounds amazing. My mother passed away on this past December 28 after a long struggle with cancer and numerous surgeries. She, too, was eased on her journey by hospice care. They are angels.
